  1. I think the far bigger "mistake" was the inclusion of three third-rate quality, dull sounding mono mixes which are (apart from sound quality) absolutely identical to the album mixes.
  2. After close examination (listening with headphones) I have to admit that the IV companion disc isn't that bad. There's more subtle differences to the original album than I first noticed. I would rate it "average" now, just like HOTH. Same applies to ITTOD, the better mixes are significantly different. The three mono mixes are still disappointing though. My new rating would now be as follows: Coda: Excellent ***** III: Very good **** II, Physical Graffiti, Presence: Good *** I, IV, Houses of the Holy, ITTOD: Average (at best) **
  3. Quite a few wrong facts about Zeppelin in the article. Disagree on Physical Graffiti, think it's one of the better companion discs. And four stars for the IV bonus disc which is easily the weakest of the bunch (along with ITTOD)? I would rate the companion discs as follows: Coda: Excellent ***** III: Very good **** II, Physical Graffiti, Presence: Good *** I, Houses of the Holy: Average (at best) ** IV, ITTOD: Poor *
  4. I like all three. Ozone Baby is heavy rock, but a radio-friendly pop song at the same time. Darlene is a great piano-driven blues rock number, love JPJ's piano runs. And Wearing & Tearing, I think it's a cool mix of Metal, Punk and (fast) Rockabilly. Could have been a monster track live. Sometimes I wish they had been included in ITTOD, would have been a great album then, with 4 great hard rock tracks (the 4th being In The Evening). Would have dropped South Bound Saurez and perhaps I'm Gonna Crawl (but not Hot Dog!) instead. On the other hand, this would have made Coda a much weaker album. I really liked Coda when it came out in 1982, but the new deluxe release with all the bonus stuff is spectacular.
  5. Maybe I'm weird, but I could watch a single angle shot of Jimmy Page playing guitar for hours, not boring at all for me. Admittedly, the Knebworth footage would be more exciting and also better video quality. But I would expect that an official Earls Court video would still have improved image and sound quality compared to the bootlegs (see LZ DVD). I don't watch the bootleg DVD often either, but with improved quality, I think I would (I watched the official LZ DVD many many times, even though much of the material was out on bootlegs before).
  6. I think Earls Court wouldn't be a big release without video. The band was at their peak visually in 1975. A video / audio package (like Celebration Day) could sell well, considering the severe lack of official footage from Led Zeppelin. Casual fans don't have the bootleg videos of Earls Court and Knebworth. I would love to see both (Earls Court and Knebworth) released as video / audio packages. Audio-wise, I'd even prefer Knebworth, at least they had a singer again in 1979. Robert's voice is terrible at Earls Court (in 1975 in general), it cracks all the time, he doesn't hit any higher notes right, it's really painful. Rest of the band is doing ok, but far from a 1972 performance like HTWWW. Don't think an audio only release of Earls Court would be such a big deal. Video would be far more interesting.

  8. Original album remastered: Very good sound, much improved, I can even hear Robert's vocals better in Carouselambra. Companion Disk: Three interesting alt mixes - In The Evening, Carouselambra and Hot Dog (prefer the rough mix of Hot Dog over the original). Very bad, dull sounding mono mixes of All My Love, I'm Gonna Crawl and Fool in the Rain. South Bound Saurez sounds very similar to the album mix. Still worth getting for the much improved sound of the original album.

Some of us wonder why Jimmy Page didn't release some of the already bootlegged stuff like the extended All My Love (and went for inferior mono mixes on the ITTOD companion disk instead) or the alternate When The Levee Breaks with additional vocals, etc. Jimmy said he wanted to avoid material that had come out on bootlegs, but at the same time he released quite a few tracks that were available on bootlegs before (like Sugar Mama, Friends and Four Sticks from India, Jennings Farm Blues, etc.). Maybe the answer is easy: Perhaps, for some of the bootlegged material, the actual multitrack masters were stolen and no longer at his disposal. I doubt he would have used material he could only lift from bootleg records for the companion disks. This would also explain why some of the bootlegged stuff out there sounds extremely good (e.g. AML or WTLB, as mentioned above) whereas other bootlegged material (e.g. Sugar Mama) sounds like it is clearly from a copy several generations away from the master. For me, this seems the most likely explanation as to why Jimmy Page released some low interest stuff (mono mixes on ITTOD which are identical to the stereo mixes! Some very similar, almost identical mixes for LZ IV, etc.) instead of some more different, more interesting stuff. His explanation that he wanted to avoid bootlegged material sounds very thin and I believe he mentioned several times in the past that tapes were stolen from his house. Views?
  10. IF there's a full EC release, I hope it includes video as well. Visually, they were possibly at their peak in 1975. Musically, well, at least Robert wasn't at his best IMO. Would still love both, audio and video of EC in better quality than the bootlegs. Hopefully, it'll happen in 2016, and not 10 years later.

  12. Very disappointed. No new music, no real news, no relevant new content at all (all discography and tour info can be found on other websites as well), no multimedia, video, audio, etc., nothing that really goes beyond LZ.com or other existing websites. Poor, bit old fashioned web design, extremely slow performance, mandatory registration for nothing,.... Not worth the wait and the silly countdown. Wish JP had involved someone with some solid knowledge about websites and today's web technology. Now, after about 12 or more hours, performance seems to have improved quite a bit. I can only hope substance of the content will improve as well. So far, there's almost nothing there.

  14. Both are good, but totally different types of music: - Firm was more like mainstream rock music - C/P was much heavier, parts of it could be called metal Both have great singers, I enjoyed Paul Rodgers as well as David Coverdale. Still prefer C/P due to the enormous power the album had.
  15. 1975 was by far the worst year for Plant's voice. He never sounded that bad before or after.
  16. I know this song was on CD 4 of the Free box set (that I own), but I can't find the Extras CD with this track anymore. And I wouldn't want to buy the whole box set once again. The original album by the Sharks is out of print for a long time. Couldn't find a download online so far. Please help if you can.

  18. Yes, It's from the No Quarter / Unledded DVD You need to get the DVD though to really enjoy it because the sound on the DVD is spectacular! Highlight of this DVD for me, and the best post-Zep version of Black Dog ever! Jimmy Page looks soooo cool on this one, love it!
  19. I think you're right. Mothership did well for what it is, just another best of compilation. What makes me wonder though is that the remixed and expanded TSRTS is selling NOTHING, nowhere in the world! I mean, it's practically a new live album from Led Zeppelin, six additional songs, different versions of the old songs, great sound and a luxury packaging! But only die-hard collectors seem to buy it. That's what I call an extremely poor Marketing job. Same applies to TSRTS DVD.
  20. True, it had been adjusted at least twice due to decreasing record sales. Originally, Gold was 250,000 units and Platinum was 500,000 units. By the way, now that there's more global standardization in the certification process through the IFPI, I'm not so sure anymore if the number of discs within a set do actually matter in some countries or not...
  21. As stated above. "Gold" means 100,000 copies in Germany. But I'm sure Mothership will soon go Platinum (200,000 copies), it's still a solid seller (currently still at #15). In Germany, as well as in most other countries outside the US, it doesn't matter if a release is 1, 2 or 3 CDs/DVDs. You need to sell 100,000 (200,000) copies of the whole set to get certified.
  22. The Rover is their most underrated song ever IMO. One of their best and heaviest songs ever. Never played in concert, never present on a "Best of" compilation. Never mentioned in interviews. Never released as a single. Never (well, almost) played on the radio. First written as an acoustic piece in 1970, but never released. Then recorded as an electric track in 1972 but not included in the studio album for which it had been recorded (Houses of the Holy). Only released in 1975 on PG. No idea why they never performed it live (apart from the one famous soundcheck).
