I think it's pretty obvious that Page using the EDS at the Link Wray tribute was done as an advertisement. No other need for such a guitar for a three chord song. Wouldn't surprise me if Gibson asked him to use it as an early promotion. But, such is the business side of rock stardom.

Yep. Very cynical, given he was there to pay tribute to one of his heroes

The end of a killer version of Dazed from 7/17/73. I have not finished remastering the whole show, but I have the full version of Dazed done. Send me a message if you want the link for that song.

One of my favourite shows. No Quarter is superb. Please send me a link when you have it all done. Thanks mate.

Hi Xolo. Yeah, "Wilderness of Mirrors" hasn't wowed me instantly like their other albums. It will probably end up being the one I play the least, along with "Clear Lake Forest". I think it is a placeholder type of album...just treading water. Now, the next album will show if they have anything left in the tank or if maybe they have run out of gas.

Now that I’ve listened to it a lot more, it’s really grown on me

    Connolly plummeted the depths of poor taste when he made a joke about guy called Ken Bigley. The unfortunate man had been beheaded by ISIS whilst doing humanitarian work in Iraq;

Comedian Billy Connolly has been criticised after making a joke about Iraq hostage Kenneth Bigley.

He reportedly asked his audience: "Don't you just wish they would just get on with it?", at the Hammersmith Apollo theatre in London on Monday night.

The Scotsman was booed after making further comments about Mr Bigley's Thai wife, Sombat.

Mr Bigley's brother, Paul, said if people wanted to pay to see such humour they could go and "queue in the rain".

The comedian allegedly swore after a member of the audience stuck up for Kenneth Bigley, saying: "You're talking about a man's life Billy."

He lost a lot of respect, mine included, after this.

Never liked him. Always seemed rather conceited to me

the 2021 Bloomington Minneapolis SB in 2021 was the last real SB.

    You're not the only one who was convinced the rest of the elusive 929 SB would be released sooner or later (especially after the Please Please me snippet was released as a bonus on 928!). Two theories are floating around;

    • EV  backed out because  the seller's (Showco chap?)  demands for the remaining tape became downright outrageous
    • EV was fed up with the Mahdi chap who was throwing their precious material online for free.

the first explanation sounds plausible to me. The available 90 minutes SB  was milked in an unprecedented way, remember. First they released the separate 'singles' (Immigrant, Stairway, Friends) and  on the final 2CD Geisha release, Stairway and Friends '(and all the in-between plantations) inexplicably were omitted .

Obviously EV was hoping to release a more complete, ultimate (super expensive) 929 edition one or two years later, but it turned out different...ouch

    Ok thanks mate

  6. When was the last time EVSD released a soundboard? Seems like a while ago….

Perhaps the well has run dry, or it’s just not profitable any more.

I was always convinced we’d get the rest of 29/9/1971….particularly after they released that teaser/extract of Please Please Me.

Very pleased, proud and overjoyed for Jimmy. Link Wray means so much to him, and Jimmy really rose to the occasion to deliver a fulsome tribute.

It's been so long since Jimmy mesmerized a New York City audience, to see them all literally leap to their feet is a real testament to the enduring connection between them.

Very well put Steve. There is just something about this guy. I have revered him since I was 13 years old….which was 7 years after Zeppelin folded. Awesome to see him playing. I will now learn to play this song today (my 70 year old guitar teacher is a drummer too, which is handy).

Over the Hills and Far Away has everything in it. Not an easy song to get the hang of but one to work on slowly. And when you get it down it is always impressive. Good luck.

Also I do not know if you have it already but there is a huge coffee-table like book called Led Zeppelin - The Complete Studio Recordings. All tab and most of it pretty damn accurate. It is a must for Zep guitar fans.

    Cheers from Quebec.

Thanks Ian. Yeah I did start on it and keep meaning to revisit and work on it. It’s friggin hard to play.

Tangerine was one of the first ones I learned as well. Once YouTube came around and some explained the tuning and pattern I learned That's The Way and it's one of my favorites to play. Now Fearless by Pink Floyd, that's a different story!

Yep I’ve learned fearless as well

  10. Hi all,

Been playing a little while, and I can have a decent crack at the following:

    - Tangerine (first song I ever learned to play).
    - That’s the Way (beautiful song).
    - Kashmir.
    - Ramble on (learning this - it’s hard).

Any other suggestions where the rhythm guitar bits may be achievable for someone at my level?

    Cheers

Is this about what we would have wanted for a setlist, or what we think would actually have been the 1980 fall US set list?

Zeppelin usually only changed a few songs between tours that were close together, so the starting point for fall 1980 would have been the Europe 80 set list with maybe a few changes.  I read somewhere that Carouselambra was being planned or at least considered.

Given the shape that Page and Bonham were in, I can't imagine there would have been a lot of change in the three months and 10 days between July 7 and Oct 17.

My list based on what I would have liked
