  1. With a few exceptions, I pretty much like all versions of the song. But #1 for me is The Song Remains The Same version. Occasionally I get a bit tired of the digressions into other songs that we hear mid way through live versions of NQ, not always, just sometimes. But you don't get that with TSRTS version. And the keyboards and guitar are just perfect.
  2. Of course this is true that it's a choice to buy them or not buy them. But I think its a worthy criticism. There's really not much on ANY of the reissues that is worth getting or that adds to the original album. I would much rather have seen a single edition (perhaps a 2 disc set) or various outtakes and alternate tracks, rather than tacking this stuff onto existing albums.
  3. Like gibsonfan159, I'd buy them in a second if they were the same price as shorts at my local discount store
  4. It's what every old band does not. Re-release your old album, cleaned up a bit, and tack on a few goodies, Some of the goodies are good, some stale, some you don't know why they bothered.
  5. If Page is planning to release something (live material, re-mixes, or whatever) then he will certainly be having talks with people who will help him decide the best date from a marketing standpoint. They wouldn't want to release it at the same time that some other major artist is 'dropping' an album, as they say. With that said, it doesn't really matter to Zep's true fans. They'll get it no matter what. I just hope that this year doesn't pass and all we've had is some collection of studio outtakes or a greatest hits package. I really am not interested in remixes and I own all Zep's original releases, official live albums, etc. Now... live concerts, cleaned up, nicely packaged with liner notes... count me in!
  6. It would make sense to do this. He cares about the legacy, keeping the band current somehow, and of course the money
  7. The peril of doing this is that you hit the 'save' button and then realize you've forgotten something. But here goes... Before you read my list, I am sure you will wonder where certain tracks are. But I would say this represents my favs of LZ. After making the list I compared it to Rolling Stone Magazine's top 40 LZ songs, and the top 10 of that list does not look much like mine. To each their own. Again, no order whatsoever - numbers are just so I don't go past 10. 1) Kashmir 2) Ten Years Gone 3) Stairway To Heaven 4) Over The Hills And Far Away 5) Whole Lotta Love 6) Black Dog 7) No Quarter 😎 The Rain Song 9) Thank You 10) In The Light
  8. Indeed Page was already known. But I am not sure if he would be a household name on the strength of is pre-Zeppelin work
  9. Walsh is amazing. I love his solo work more than anything by The Eagles or with other bands he was with (though those bands are good too) There is no one making music like his now.
  10. Well, the way I see it, they could do a How The West Was Won II. There are so many pieces of live shows, and many sound very good with incredible playing. Sadly, some of the best playing they did live is found on bootlegs of poor sound quality. But they could scrape together a bunch of tracks and make a new live compilation, which is basically what HTWWW is.
  11. My view is that we would have heard of Plant and Page, but not necessarily to the degree that we do now. To be honest, they could have been in forgettable but good bands, bands who had hits, but whose names are not known and are unimportant to us now. We could rattle off any number of bands that the average person could not name a member of.
  12. I used the word 'tiresome' very liberally to indicate that the release of these From The Vaults albums have become so regular and predictable. Despite that, they're awesome.
  13. This is true. Many bootlegs show great artistry but sound quality is simply bad. Wouldn't it be glorious is both were at the same level?
  14. The Rolling Stones' "From The Vaults" series is getting almost tiresome. But for Stones fans, like me, its still awesome. I have no doubt there are many more of these archival releases to come in the future. Why is there no equivalent for LZ? There are TONS of great live shows that can be seen online. So the tapes are obviously out there. Is it a legal matter of who owns them, or something like that? I enjoy the 3 live albums we do have, but I think there could be more and I would pre-order them in a heartbeat.
  15. My answer is probably yes. More so, Plant and Page as Plant has an incredible voice and Page is so gifted. John Paul Jones and John Bonham... could be Left to chance if they hooked up with other great musicians. But even with Plant and Page, its hard to say. The magic of LZ was what they did together, how it all worked as one. Plant and Page have had decent solo careers, but I am bold enough to say that these solo careers would not have taken off without LZ. If they did, they would not have garnered much fame as a result.
  16. What's up with this, we ask? Keith is just being honest. I myself was never a "big Led Zeppelin guy"... until I became one. It's okay to not like certain music, certain sounds, and certain styles. Our taste in music is complex. Its related to many things, environment, brain, innate sensitivities, and more. There are many great artists/bands/albums where you'd be aghast to hear me say that they just do nothing for me.
  17. There are always strange things that catch the collector's eye. Commemorative glassware, hipflasks, calendars of year's past. It never ends
  18. There are countless great musicians out there, no question. But only Zeppelin is Zeppelin. As for their decision to quit, it was there's alone. Like I said before, it's not right or wrong or good or bad. It was a personal decision. They may have made some brilliant music or it might have all been rubbish. We'll never know
  19. I agree about the precise combo of individuals creating a magic. But I do think that a band with a substitute for one who has left or died can play the songs that the original line up played and it can still be very enjoyable and worthwhile. I would LOVE To have seen The Who in the early 70s. I would still like to have seen The Who in the late 80s. I am kind of too young for either. Well, actually not too young for the late 80s. In any case, you get my drift
  20. I think its human nature to 'hoard' things. Not everyone does this, but a great many do. Whether its food, supplies, or even non essential items, there is something that makes us feel good about hanging on to stuff that we made want or need one day, whether to keep for our own use or for bartering with others in the future. I like buying nice wine and spirits. When I discover something good, I always buy an extra one (or two) for the cellar or cabinet. But taunting other with what you possess, knowing they want or need it -- man, that's kinda sick
  21. I think there will be some efforts to mark it. Question is, what sort of things?
  22. Wow. I did not know this. 4 days later?! The Who were always odd. Lots of stories of them physically fighting each other. They were so serious. Different animals altogether. But that is news to me that they played 4 days after Entwistle's death. Was it kind of in tribute to him?
  23. It is hard to imagine them as an 80s era band. And for the record I am not unhappy with them calling it quits when they did. What would they have sounded like? I don't really know. I am thinking about the Stones in the 80s with Dirty Work, but also a White Snake sort of sound. I'm also thinking of the sounds of the Page and Plant solo albums. They would not likely have ever equaled their greatness of the 1970s. But they would have been Led Zeppelin so a few gems might have come forth. But again, they made the choice best for them and it was there decision alone.
  24. I know that he was pretty much always awesome and that his approach, style, and heaviness a constant feature of Led Zeppelin's music. But if someone who didn't know Zeppelin very well asked you for 2 or 3 songs that show Bonham's greatness the most, what would you suggest?
