  1. Everyone nowadays will say they like them, but I'm referring to bands/artists that were competitors, around making albums in the 60s and 70s. I'm sure there are many, so I would start with the biggest fans. I'm not sure, which is why I asked. I do remember John Lennon saying he liked them in 1968 or 1969.
  2. I love Peter Green as a guitarist (one of my favorites) and a great singer... "The Green Manalishi" and "Man of the World" are amazing songs.
  3. Saw him three times... "Dark Side of the Moon" tour was the greatest concert. "The Wall" was also great!
  4. I agree Plant moans too much.. I think he got bored without having anything to do, even bashing the tambourine during Stairway (what would the song be without the tambourine!)... Considering it was Jimmy Page, a great producer, it is surprising they didn't have better and more recordings. About the music, I wouldn't have minded a wider spectrum. Could you imagine a Zep disco song? Even Pink Floyd (Another Brick, Pt 2) had some great "disco" stuff. Also having the greatest drummer, I would have loved some other kinds of beats and rhythms, especially Middle-Eastern stuff since Jimmy and Robert were big fans.. Would also have loved some flamenco/classical/Spanish stuff.
  5. White Summer? Any particular version? I loved the Middle-Eastern influenced guitar stuff the most!
  6. Out of curiosity, which songs mark Plant's best and worst songs lyrically? (Anyone can answer)
  7. It annoys me that Jimmy was on a show with that bum, Jack White/Black, whatever his name is. Sounds like a male Yoko Ono, and can't play. Jimmy (and Jeff Beck) seem to play with anyone because they can't sing.. Black Crowes, Puff Daddy, etc... I actually wish he'd release another instrumental album, I don't like his songs with vocals. "Emerald Eyes", "Prelude" "The Release" are a few great tracks.
  8. It could be good, bad, but I remember when I'd listen to bootlegs, I'd hear some interesting stuff from the crowd.. A lot of junk, but some funny stuff, some weird stuff, some stuff that was spot on... I'm going to go listen!
  9. I remember seeing "Behind The Music" of Grand Funk saying they blew Zep... Baloney.. I'm from Flint, and so are they, but they always played Detroit shows and had a lot of fans. So of course fans got upset, as they were billed as a local band, or "Detroit's very own" as Don and Mel are from Swartz Creek, so I did go to the same high school as Mark. As for audiences, I prefer the quiet ones - I'm there to listen to Zeppelin, not audience chatter. I'm listening to a bootleg online right now, "No Quarter" and it's pretty disrespectful so many people are chatting. Go outside and chat.... It's horrible now with people and their cell phones, trying to sing along, off-key, wrong words, clapping with no rhythm. Clap in-between songs if you must.
  10. Well, they did play "Achilles Last Stand" which has 3 guitars at least. I wish certain songs were played live, but the little annoyance is Plant's moaning...
  11. I prefer to talk about the music side of things, but if you want to go about someone's personality, cool... I'll respond to this later, I don't wanna put anything out and take what someone ELSE would say.
  12. I only skimmed through this, I'm a drummer of 23 years. As a teenager, I'd play "Achilles Last Stand" a lot because it's so fun, lots of changes, things to remember, and I always wanted to play things note for note - at least until I learned it, and then I could change it to fit my style. As for feel, I think his best is "Stairway to Heaven" - especially when he's on the ride.. Listen to those ghost notes, the playing the snare... perfect.. I don't like the robotic feel of Neil Peart. There's a lot more to dynamics and feel than starting quiet and getting louder. You can play 20 notes at different volumes, and hitting the drum in different spots to give a different sound.
  13. I have a simple test -- I listen and whatever moves the most, whatever is soothing to my ears, heart, mind - wins.. I like Hendrix, but I rather listen Jimmy play. I think he's the greatest guitar ever. ... going to listen to "Achilles Last Stand" - so much emotion, it's too much sometimes, so much greatness for over 10 minutes.. I wish I could thank him somehow.
  14. I know he said he was his favorite, but I find it interesting that his playing is nothing like Keith's.
  15. Neil sounds nothing like Keith.. Bonham seems to have been his biggest influence, whether he wants to admit it or not.. Besides Bonzo, Moonie, Buddy, I love John Densmore - great feel. Ginger was a big influence on Bonzo, and I also like him. Nice to have some fellow drummers around! I should check out the musician page!
