  1. Gene Simmons is a joke and not the least bit worthy to be on a list with the great Geezer Butler.
  2. That right there is the quote of the day ! Speaking of Jones, was there any more activity of Tres Coyotes after that initial gig? Would any of that ever be released?
  3. That is a great moment indeed ! I have thought that the opening of 6/21/77 is the most exciting moment captured on tape given the sound quality, the incredible anticipation in the crowd, the overwhelming audience response and the supercharged fired-up frenzied performance of that first opening.
  4. The side 2 opener from Brothers and Sisters. Maybe that could be a topic - great side 2 openers. It is pretty amazing that the Allman Brothers band put out Eat a Peach and this amazing album in the two years following the tragic death of Duane Allman.
  5. My choice would be Buck Dharma but that is just a stylistic preference. My favorite Buck solos are Astronomy Flaming Telepaths Then Came the Last Days of May He played so many styles so well and he was quite inventive.
  6. Thank you. Both underwater photos were taken with a Nikon Coolpix waterproof camera. It is waterproof to a depth of 10 feet which works for snorkeling. Also takes HD video.
  7. Depends on what type of music you like but here are a few good ones. Bootsy Collins and John Stark Robert "Kool" Bell (bass) and George Brown (drums)
  8. Coral Bay, St. John US Virgin Islands
  9. What release do you think Plant is vetoing? It is easy to cut out Plantations. They have done it on just about every live release so far. They have officially released live material from every year except 1968, 1977 and 1980. 1980 for obvious reasons and for 1977 it might be difficult for Page to cobble together a full set that meets his standards performance wise. I really enjoy the 77 shows, but there are spots in every show that might give Jimmy pause.
  10. Royal Albert Hall January 9, 1970 The Initial Tapes To me this is one of the best sounding live recordings. The performance is so strong in every respect.
  11. Pink Floyd June 1975 Nassau Coliseum I was so blown away. Years later I found out that they opened with the early versions of Dogs (You've got to be Crazy) and Sheep (Raving and Drooling). I only found out because a friend sent a copy of the show without knowing I had been to it many years earlier. My first concert was almost Zep at MSG in Feb that year. My older brother was going with friends. Unfortunately my parents said I could not go.
  12. In the US in the 70s Creem was the cool, hip, goofy alternative to the more mainstream Circus magazine. Rolling Stone was "serious" and was very critical of the bands that younger kids liked. Circus was just straightforward fan stuff. Creem covered the bands teenagers liked and was positive about the music, but in an irreverant, funny style. They did not take themselves or the music too seriously. It was fun to read - they poked fun at the bands and the fashions while celebrating the music. If you liked Mad magazine or Cracked you probably liked Creem. I wish I had saved my copies. I think I had every issue from 1973-1977 (through high school). We all looked forward to each new copy showing up on the newstand.
  13. I recall reading an interview with Jimmy in Circus Magazine during the 1977 tour, "Jimmy Page Files His Report". Jimmy said he was living on banana daquiris and protein powder.
  14. Snorkeling in Maho Bay, St. John, US Virgin Islands
  15. Yes a cool movie - I had forgotten how cool the soundtrack is. Thanks for the reminder. What a chase scene!
  16. The Third Man. An incredible movie. I did not see it until about 6 years ago. Bought the soundtrack. The whole soundtrack is great, as they weave a series of related themes throughout. The story goes that the director did not know what to do for music. One night he walked past a cafe in Vienna where they were shooting, and he heard an instrument he had never heard before - the zither. He asked the player, Anton Karas to work on the movie music. The main theme became an international hit single in 1950. I was going to put the final scene here with the closing theme but that would spoil the film. Seek out the movie. The final scene and music are incredible, my favorite ending to a movie ever. Here is the main intro theme played live on zither by the composer. And here is one more piece from a critical scene in the film. The opening sequence with the main theme. Music starts at 0:55. At the end of the movie we learn in the credits that the film was produced at Shepperton Studios - yes the same Shepperton Studios that Zep used for TSRTS.
  17. Amazing movie and soundtrack. Opening sequence is fantastic.
