Wasn't sure where to put this but Paul Martinez is listed on wiki as having passed away yesterday. As a quick Google does not reveal any other sources confirming this, I shall take with a pinch of salt, but has anyone heard anything through the grapevine?
An American musician of the same name died last month and I wondered if someone updating wiki had got the wrong end of the stick.

The people banging on about arthritis and "he can't play anymore" are remarkably quiet tonight!
What a blinder of a performance

Most positive he's been about Zeppelin for ages. A nod to JPJ. And the Bonzo's hat story made me pee myself laughing

I love the way the 246 Dino is parked outside 484 Kings Rd, former home of Swan Song records

Has there ever been any proof or confirmation of anyone "trying out?" As far as I know it's been just rumors.
Peter Grant was quoted as saying people left messages on his answer phone as soon as the announcement was made. And that "certain people really went down in my estimation". Afaik, there were never any try outs, and I've never heard Plant Page or JPJ mention otherwise.

I thought it was great. What surprised me the most was that last bit he put together using a drum piece Bonham never used . I was expecting something cringey but man he added a riff to the beat and it was quite freakin good.
Is this the thing that's appeared on You Tube as "Bonzo's Bhangra"?

Fascinating thread!
I often wonder watching TSRTS "where are they now" to all the various characters appearing. The gatecrasher who gets chased into the room by police and the door shuts, during "Dazed", where is he now? And what happened in that room? Cops were out of control back then.

I only said that because the title refers the state of New Jersey and not the isle of Jersey where the performance took place.
My apologies mate, looking back that was a rather rude post of mine. I am afflicted by dreaded Covid at the moment and not in the best of moods.

Perhaps, it never happened. Especially, when it comes from a social media post. I'd have my doubts about it.
There's an actual picture of it, on this site

Wonder why Jimmy was visiting Bron yr aur?

Good to see JPJ invited to this. Couldn't help noticing Josh Homme & Alain Johannes on the bill too. Anyone know what playing shape Josh is in at the moment? I'd love another Crooked Vultures appearance, even if a record's not going to happen.

Mr. Jones,
In Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann's book "Deal", he repeats the well known story that the two bands met at Herb Green's studio on 14, January of 1969. The book adds a detail I'd never heard, that Grateful Dead front man Pig Pen pulled out a gun and "accidentally" fired it into the ceiling! The Dead are well known for their love of guns and were often photographed with them, California being an "open carry" state at that time. Is there any confirmation of this story from the Led Zeppelin camp?
In the official Zeppelin book, JPJ says he recalls Pigpen having a gun at that photo session. Nothing about him firing it though.

Only one (one star) review for this new Bob Spitz biog, and it is pretty scathing.

Did any of Led Zeppelin besides Robert Plant sing background? The only one I can think of is The Ocean with Bonzo and JPJ.
Page is on backing vox on Communication Breakdown

Early review

Unpositive, but sounds like it was written by someone it wasn't aimed at anyway.

Odd that Jimmy correctly said the first two albums came out in 1969, then miscorrected himself to say 1970!

It has to be an improvement on the Mick Wall book.

With this and Saving Grace, I guess the Space Shifters are going to be kicking their heels for a while.

Podcast here with Ross Halfin about his upcoming Zeppelin vinyl book. (apols if it's already been posted on another thread)
He says among many other things, that Page has tapes from both Tokyo shows and both Osaka '71 shows.
(hat tip to one of the Zep threads on the Steve Hoffman Forum)

No he definitely isn't in the video and I've searched for a while trying to confirm it but haven't been able to do as yet. I can just recall spotting him on some tv news reports at the time, he didn't appear alot and was always in the background. I guessed that as Phil Collins had recorded with him then that is how he may have been involved.
I will keep trying to find some confirmation of this, unless it was my memory playing tricks on me and I'm thinking of something else.
Given what a huge star Robert was in 1985, it'd be odd if he hadn't been involved.

Latest Rock Candy magazine, has Zeppelin at Knebworth. By Dave Lewis
Latest Classic Rock has a thing on the making of the 4th Album.
Bought the former but held off buying the latter as, being Classic Rock mag, I suspect the author of the piece is Mick Wall. No thanks.

Wasn't there an experiment with with double summer time in Britain around then? 1968-71 I think, so what shows as 9.30 could have been 8.30 then.
