  1. Totally agreed! For example just think of Vienna 73, such a rugged, horrible version- guitar slightly out of tune, Robert`s damaged voice didn`t help either- what a desaster! Given Robert`s weak voice at the time, they should have included No Quarter in the Europe 73 setlist instead.

  3. Just stumbled across this letter for publication in the May edition of MOJO. I have no camera at hand, so I type this letter. ***For Years I have been reading about the "Scandinavian Tour" of Led Zeppelin booked as The New Yardbirds to fulfil contractual obligations. Jimmy Page also refers to it in Shape Of Things To Come (Mojo 289). However, I saw The New Yardbirds in a club called Piccadilly (previously Pferdestall) in Hagen, Germany, so the tour definitely stretched a bit further. I did not like what I heard, as I was a thorough Yardbirds fan & I was there to groove to I`m A Man, Shapes Of Things, Over Under Sideways Down etc., but I got heavy blues rock instead. My then-girlfriend, now wife, bought Led Zep`s first album soon afterwards- we still have it. I guess there were further german appearances, as a one-off in the provinces does not seem reasonable or economical to me, however Germany is on the place to cross if you are travelling north. Does anybody remember any more german dates? Hans-Jürgen Klitsch, Schortens*** It`s a pity that he has given us no specific date, but who is able to remember specific details of a small club concert after 50 years, anyway. To my ears his story sounds authentic, and he seems to have chosen the right wife......
  4. Sorry, what are you talking about??? Just to be sure I have listened to the HTWWW remaster, Burn Like A Candle & the Moonchild release. I didn´t hear any two guitar parts, neither any replaced or altered notes in the solo or any other part. I can hear generally no difference between the official and the bootlegs. Of course the multi tracks of HTWWW display a wider tonal range of the guitar, such as the coda-fun- part of The Ocean, you simply won`t hear some nuances or dominant tones of some chords on the bootleg versions, simply because they are bootlegs.
  5. Get the vinyl, you won`t regret it- the Page remasters sound awesome. The Super Deluxe boxes do contain a download card, I don`t know if the "normal" vinyl remasters have one.
  6. Providence, a new & complete AUD source, with sound quality as good as the Seattle AUD tapes.
  7. Anyone with a turntable and love for the first LP should get their RSD- The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn- MONO release! The sound is mindblowing- you won`t touch your stereo copy ever again!
  8. These sites will also help: http://www.argenteumastrum.com/ http://www.bootledz.com/
  9. Alltough I am not the biggest fan of 75, I really dig gibsonfan`s enjoyable & detailed analysis. Four Blocks In The Snow is one of the few 75 concerts I appreciate. Neither the SB nor the matrix will do me any good. Haha, I prefer the TCOLZ audience version, because it makes not only Page`s sound but the whole thing "demonstrably better".
  10. What a show, I absolutely love it. Funny, I like the very good audience source, the flat SB leaves me cold. Anyway, certainly one of the best concerts of their ninth US tour.
  11. Sorry that I was unclear on this point. Yes, I also expect a release around September. But they haven`t released a song of the last third of the show so far, nothing from Moby Dick to Rock And Roll yet. So it is not proven that EV is able to release the entire 185 minutes of the show. I will keep my fingers crossed...... Let`s not forget about 928, EV should release both Osaka shows simultaneous, there is only one 50th anniversary.
  12. I am still waiting for my copy of Graf Zeppelin`s 924, so I have listened to Light & Shade (until the end of the acoustic set) in the meantime. Man, Heartbreaker & Dazed & Confused are absolutely great. And if memory serves me well, Whole Lotta Love is a killer version too. You nailed it. But do they have the entire show? If EV would only release a song of the 3/3, that would calm down my nerves........
  13. Right, I love all of them, maybe 923 & 929 a tad more just because of their superior sound. 927 is a bit short & not too adventurous, similar to the Kyoto gig one year later. Well, isn`t it obvious? The tape owners know when they are about to play their trump card.
  14. Whenever I get to the acoustic set of 929, I have great fun to imagine what it was like for poor Bonzo. Think, if you are in trouble with diarrhea, you certainly choose the NEAREST toilet. And that nearest toilet was certainly within hearing range as Mr. Plant led the audience to the famous "Mr. Bonham chant".
  15. I`d have no problem to turn & change the records of a How The East Was Won vinyl box. 5 Discs per box, both Tokyo and both Osaka gigs, and this time with NICE artwork, please.
  16. Thanks for your review, duckman. Can`t wait to hear this new stereo source, still 7 days til it arrives....... About the Graf Zeppelin mono source: Is Disc 2 & 3 that bad like the Light & Shade version? I have the 1997 TDOLZ remastered version, but I don`t remember it being mono. I think I remember the bad bass/tomtom distortion mostly on the right channel- I`ll check that tomorrow.
  17. Thanks, I see. Anyway, I am confident, that this won`t be a letdown.
  18. Aren`t these TWO new sources? It contains 3 CDs in mono & 3 CDs in stereo, any thougts? Damn, still I have to wait another ten days for my copy.
  19. I think it is Copenhagen, May 3rd 1971
  20. Domo arigato, I appreciate that very much. I have always thought that 924 is a great concert & it would deserve better sounding source tapes. Much better than past TDOLZ & EV releases! I have ordered my copy already, but as it seems right now, it may take another 14 days til it arrives.
  21. Graf Zeppelin has just released another title, Super Stars: Definitive 924 Tapes. This six disc sourced from the second Tokyo show that took place on September 24th, 1971 contains one mono and stereo audience source. It is not known yet if any of tapes included with this new release are either upgrade or unheard material. I think I shall get this one, as Graf Zeppelin titles never let me down in the past.
  22. Please god yes. Euro '73 here we come. The very popular tour of Europe 73 on the continent was in contrast to the earlier UK tour by no means a small clubs affair. With a few exceptions, like K.B.Hallen Copenhagen or Hamburg Musikhalle, they played in rather huge venues with capacity of 10000 to 15000 fans.
  23. Sorry, I don`t see your conclusion. So the back of the neck was sanded down and shaved, but one has to be slightly deranged for sanding or shaving the back of the headstock, as this would be completely useless. And the serial number of a Les Paul is, as far as I know, on the back of the headstock.
  24. Got my copy yesterday, have listened to it about 10 times, compared to Winston Remaster & Live in Japan 1971 by Wendy. Here is my impression: First, this SB is in mono, so I think this proofs that the well known "so called SB"-stereo source is an unsuccessful multitrack-split. Overall, this SB is very well balanced. The bass is far more accented, it is a real joy listening to JPJ & Bonzo groovin`while Jimmy trips through maybe the greatest IMS solo ever. I have to agree with you about the guitar, the multitrack-split version is a little bit louder in the mix & sounds a tad more biting than the SB, but that is no big issue IMO. Thankfully, this SB is so well balanced that you can crank it up to 11, it benfits from high volume. But I really can`t agree with you about Robert`s voice. His second wail is a little bit shaken, but afterwards he is doing fine, especially in the great acoustic set. Conclusion: I love it! Hopefully EV got the complete SBDs of 928 & 929 & release them in September. Or Jimmy will give us the official multitracks.
  25. Do you think that Balloon Boys Rock Carnival in Tokyo is significant improved & less distorted compared to Light & Shade by TDOLZ?
