  1. They're awesome, I love them! I enjoyed Crack-Up, but it's the type of album that is more suited towards sitting and listening to the whole thing. It's more than the sum of its individual parts. Listened to all of Shore yesterday and really liked it, it can be taken in parts as individual songs more so than you could with Crack-Up.

No doubt. all good recommendations for 72 shows with VG - EX AUD recordings. Except one show: I haven´t found a decent sounding boot of the 6/22 San Bernardino show yet. I had the Winston Remaster and an EV release, both with terrible sound. I really don´t understand why this source is rated VG, the source for the 9/19/70 MSG evening show is rated Good to VG and the boots are so much better sounding than the Berdu boots. Am I missing something?

I had remastered it a while back, it's on my blog. Looking back at it, wasn't the best thing I've ever done, but I still enjoy it. Just PM'd you a link, let me know if it's any improvement!

  3. I'd snag a copy of the 3/21/70 Vancouver show. It's a great radio broadcast, about 40 minutes long and in surprisingly good quality. It's an interesting mix with Plant FAR forwards; it's super cool to hear the vocals so far up in the mix, and it fortunately happens to be an awesome Plant show as well. You can check Bootledz for the individual details on the releases, but I'd go with the new Graf Zeppelin version.

  4. Hampton '71. '71 is my favorite year of their live performances and I would eat up everything I could find from that year, but something always put me off this show. Couldn't tell if it was the deadened sound from the higher generation tape, or the more lackadaisical performance, or what.

I finally ended up going back to it this year, listening to a newer remaster based on EV's "Sonic Boom" release. This time, I ended up loving it. The sound is far improved here, and for some reason, something about the performance really clicked with me. The band isn't BLAZING hot as they seemed to be through any other recorded '71 shows we have, but there's something that's welcoming about this. It's such a warm, relaxed show, and actually really well performed in its own right. Like USA '73 vibes with a '71 type show. It's now a show I enjoy a lot more and listen to quite often.

I have to say I doubt the gaps are as bad as the band has made it seem.   I’m thinking a couple/few songs have gaps but once they decided to have the fantasy sequences added, some good and complete footage had to be axed in order to give room for the 4 band members and Peter to be given equal screen time for the fantasy parts.

Sure some may be missing but I’ll bet there is a lot that is fine and complete and usable.  It’s tragic they haven’t done anything with it.

I agree, I'm sure there are decent chunks missing because of the incompetency of the filmmakers, but then again, there also has to be some footage that we haven't seen. Considering all three nights were filmed, as well as the extras in Shepperton, I'd imagine there's a significant chunk of really great unreleased film.

That said, Page would have to create a standalone release for us to see any extra footage, because editing the actual TSRTS film would take jumping through a lot of legal/copyright hoops.

That's great, I have Audacity...maybe I'll try tweaking it a bit but I'm really novice at sound production. Looking forward to your RAH. Still maddening that they never put out a stand alone release .

It's worth messing with it a bit! I got decent results out of a free compressor plugin called RoughRider2, you can download and install it into Audacity. But thanks! I'm doing both a film and album version for this one so it's taking a while, hoping the end result will be worth it. That said I absolutely agree, the show deserves its own individual release. As an audio only release it's possible we could get Thank You from the show, unless the organ track didn't record on that either (like SIBLY). I'd give a helluva lot to hear that one!

Pb is always better than any Mudslide release. Brighter and clearer. Not much that can be done to correct the level fluctuations and low guitar because as far as I know, there is no "tape"I version. They all come from vinyl. I ripped my original copy of Pb and  shared it on dime a while back. I believe Liquid Led and Wendy used my rip because the track timings for both of those are identical to mine and sound very similar. If you can find the Liquid Led online to download , grab it...or the Wendy version. They also added the audience source missing songs.

I agree, the true vinyl versions are much better. I think I had come across your rip, it was very nice! I'm not a huge fan of what Wendy did to it, their EQ work is odd. But Liquid Led did some awesome work with it, I still haven't heard a better version. A while back I was playing around with the vinyl version and was able to boost the guitar a fair bit with a compression VST in Audacity; I'll have to look back at some point here and get that finished up. Currently working on a RAH '70 project!

Listening right now. Holy shit! wouldnt have thought a vinyl rip would sound that good! thats all i needed

Absolutely! The Liquid Led one in particular was great, it's my go to version for that show.

Guitars still low in the mix on these?

Yep, wasn't all that much to be done for that. I would look for the vinyl versions because they're far clearer than the "tape," which I think were recorded from the original vinyls anyways. Graf Zeppelin and Liquid Led seem to have the best of the bunch. The pernod remaster is also really good.

  10. Interesting finds! I really wonder what happened to the rest of the Hampton show honestly. I'm curious what that Whole Lotta Love would've been like because the show's mood is so different and relaxed.

  11. I wouldn't be mad! If there's any possibility that we would get parts that we didn't have before, or even a different mix or something, I'd be interested. Wouldn't come close to getting the complete unadulterated soundboards from EV, but it'd be interesting to see what Page would do with a release like this.

  12. I love Sick Again! I think it fits very well with the overall vibe of the '75 shows, not necessarily as much in '77. However I do think Custard Pie also would've worked in that slot, it's another awesome song that I wish they had played live.

As for The Rover, it's a great song, but by '75 I don't think Robert would've been able to sing it satisfactorily. So really the best choice for the second song is Sick Again or Custard Pie.

Personally, I do. You may recall the 02 rehearsals and show were also leaked while being prepared for an official release.

Gotcha, I really wondered about it since the quality so great; I'm curious about your opinion on the 928 board tape too. The quality is still great but not superb like the 929 tape, and I doubt the botch job noise reduction was something that any decent sound engineer would do to the tape. Do you think that was leaked too and EV just messed around with it more than 929?

Jimmy's stated desire was to release something we hadn't heard before, and I personally believe some sort of How The East Was Won release was seriously considered. However, the Osaka soundboard was leaked and I can see where that alone may have dulled his enthusiasm for doing anything further with those multi-track recordings. Aside from all of that, Jimmy under self management seldom yields anything of consequence.

Do you think the 929 board was leaked from an official source? Maybe some attempt at a reference mix of the board tapes they had on hand for the potential release?

  15. This is so cool! I hadn't heard of this before now either. Would've loved to hear BIGLY in '77, it would've been great to have that back in the set. Also would far rather have a reworked TTW in place of Battle of Evermore.

Speaking of additions to the set, I think Ramble On would also have been an awesome addition for this tour. It's a shame they didn't look to try to completely revamp the setlist with more songs they hadn't attempted previously.
