  1. Sorry not sorry. Since when are there "rules" for being a proper fan? As much as I love the band I believe in keeping it real. I'm not anti-Robert. I respect him as a great rock singer and I respect his post-Zeppelin career. He's obviously matured with age. But he's not my favorite member of the band, for certain reasons. Sue me. No one "owns" Led Zeppelin fandom or defines what it's supposed to be. If you think he's the shit, then good for you. I'm a Jimmy person. And I'm hardly alone in my views.
  2. You'd think the other three band members would have tried to shut all that cheesy shit down. I certainly would have. As a Zep fan, when you think of what embarrasses you most about the band it's usually to do with Robert. Just look at all the comments on this thread, they're mostly all Plant-related.
  3. Chicks may have wanted to be with Robert, but without question guys wanted to be Jimmy Page. If you asked male Led Zep fans which of the four band members they would have traded places with, 99% probably would have said Page. What guy doesn't want to be a Guitar God? Putting out all those sounds? I was in high school when Led Zeppelin was big, and all the boys worshiped Jimmy Page. Truthfully, I think most male fans tolerated Robert's flaky-ness in order to enjoy Page and Bonham. And speaking as a chick, when I was 14 I thought Robert Plant was the hottest thing alive. I guess that tells you something about the demographic he appeals to. Then when I grew up, I was all about Jimmy. Robert looked like a hippie but Jimmy looked ... Rock and Roll. And he was handsomer. Now when I looked at Plant, all I saw was a frizzy mop of hair and bad teeth, thrusting his hairy bare torso out (we can see you have a hot body, you don't need to hit us over the head with it). He actually looked better in the Eighties once he got his hair out of his face. Robert's look completely stagnated between 1972 and 1977, his hair and stage apparel stayed exactly the same, so if I see a concert still of him from that period I have no way of knowing what year it's from, whereas that's not the case with Jimmy. Robert should have kept the goatee, it made him more interesting-looking. And looking at the two men in recent years, you can't deny that Jimmy has aged waaay better than Robert. Robert's intelligent and does have knowledge about mythology, but Ahmet Ertugen and Neal Preston described Jimmy as the smartest in the band. When I think about it, of the four band members, the one who was the coolest onstage and offstage was John Paul Jones. But it's Jimmy Page's picture that belongs in the dictionary under "rock star." Not Robert Plant.
  4. 1. The fact that they populated their road crew with thugs and criminals and let them run wild 2. Richard Cole (see #1) 3. Robert's general cheesiness 4. Bonzo's offstage bad behavior 5. Robert's refusal to do a Zep reunion tour even though he performs Zep songs with everyone else in the world
