  1. The Love Garden in Lawrence, KS is a nice shop (mostly vinyl). I miss it.
  2. Chuck Berry - Sweet Little Sixteen
  3. Pat Benatar - Love Is A Battlefield
  4. I'm definitely going to see It Might Get Loud before it leaves town this week. I've been way off the grid but I recently found out about it from a friend. That is something I'm very much looking forward to. Nice poster shot, Jahfin.
  5. I'm very much a fan of "classical," though as we use it today the term encompasses not only the Classical period, but also the Baroque, Romantic, and more modern eras in orchestral composition. The list of composers whose works I have enjoyed could go on for quite awhile: Bach (J.S. [the most famous one] and others), Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart (both), Strauss (all of them), Verdi, Wagner, Handel, Haydn(s), Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Mussorgsky, Khachaturian, Bizet, Chopin, Gershwin, and many, many others. A couple of quick notes about previous posts: yes, supposedly Tchaikovsky was a homo, though many still debate whether that is fact or myth. As for "heavy metal," a music professor I had said that Beethoven essentially invented heavy metal, if you like, though I concur that such a sonic tradition was definitely continued through composers such as Wagner. The Gayaneh (or Gayane) suite...such an excellent piece of music; the Lullaby is stunning.
  6. I'm reading my water resources textbook.

    Make me laugh!

I was at a girls' football match recently. It really wasn't a contest of elegance or anything, just an amusing way to pass the time since one of the teams was that of my girlfriend's sister (who actually ended up not making it since she had the SAT). Well into the second half, the aforementioned team had the ball deep in the opponents' end, and the other team tried to clear. The local park's pitch, not exactly being Premiership-fit, had a role to play. The 'keeper attempted to clear by kicking the ball along the surface of the pitch. A few yards out, one particular tuft of grass was very aggressive, grabbing the ball and turning it back toward the goal. As it did so, the ball went by the 'keeper and two defenders who attempted helplessly to re-clear as it rolled over the end line for an own goal. This was a moment of great mirth, as the (hopefully) good girls went up 5-0, on the way to 6-0.
  10. David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars
  11. Neat story. I wish I could sit with him over tea, talk about music and life philosophies and people, etc. Has always sounded like someone one could do that with. Very excellent for you to have met him.

    The Cars

I've always had pleasant memories of The Cars. My dad won a CD player back in 1986, and one of the very first discs that my parents got was the Greatest Hits collection that I think came out in '85. That gave a good sample of things from the beginning to that time, and I've filled in a few more songs along the way. It's hard to dissociate "Moving in Stereo" from Phoebe Cates, but I do very much enjoy that track solely for its aural merits as well.
  13. Eighteen degrees Fahrenheit, going down to about twelve.
  14. Fair and breezy, in the low 50s F. Tomorrow at this time it supposedly will be 35-40 degrees colder.
  15. I'm reading my introductory weather and climate notes for one of tomorrow's exams. I have to fail the exam to not get an A in the class, so I'm not that stressed about it. COlonial and revolutionary American history is another matter, however. I have to get an A on the final to get an A in the class. That is the other one tomorrow.
