  1. There is a truly fantastic, new YouTube channel (link below) by a musical composer that is currently doing reactions and play-alongs to Zep tunes.  He's started out with the majority of the cuts from LZ II.  I think he has a genuinely fun, intelligent insight into Page's playing in particular.  He's quite a good player to boot :)

    Check it out:

Holy Cow, looked it up on discogs, only 156 pressed on etched vinyl. Unusual for Jimmy as he seems to not be into releasing colored vinyl or anything fancy of that sort, deluxe packaging sure, but the platter is always black if I'm not mistaken. I guess it makes sense here since the 8 tracks fit on one side. Can't even buy it, but I bet it would fetch at least a 1000 in mint condition.

The 156 is of 'magickal' relevance in Thelema.  Using Gematria, 156 is the value of Babalon a/k/a the Scarlet Woman; the wiki on this concept is decent if anyone is interested: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babalon

As far as the interview, I lost the plot.  I guess I'm too dim to understand or appreciate what they are discussing - seems like an Emperor's clothes thing to me.

If you do launch make sure you spell Zeppelin correctly?

OMG...this along with Martina Navratilova stopping about with her bootleg LZ scarf at Earl's Court to Jimmy's initial plaque at Philips' Harbor...we are doomed. :watchingyou:

Have a word with Jimmy Page because he likes to squeeze an extra nickel out of Led Zeppelin

One can't help avoid reading that in the most cocaine nose job voiced version of Dr. Peter Grant...oh the irony ;)

I think that’s the first time I’ve read him say that his sigil was chosen and that it’s been around for so long. i.e. he didn’t create it, or at least, adapt it from something else

Definitely adopted, albeit its meaning is personalized.   It's the sigil magick version of Dazed and Confused ;)

One of the coolest videos I've ever viewed of a Zep cover -- which I think may be filmed in the bar/pub/tavern that was the inspiration for the album cover of In Through the Out Door (my apologies if this has been posted before):

    Agreed -

Strange that no one is mentioning the name of the band, "Creed Bratton und die Hausfrauen aus der Hölle."

  7. Thanks for sharing - looks like it was a lovely day as well!

From what I can gather, either the (C)O.T.O. or a proxy thereof has acquired the estate and have been e-begging for funds to renovate the house.  I don't think we'll see anything meaningful in our lifetime but it is deliciously ironic that we have a real world instance of the lunatics running the asylum! :)

Fate of Nations is an astonishingly brilliant album. I dare say a masterpiece. The lyrical content is compelling, earthy, organic, and evocative while the overall production is flawless. If it were released tomorrow you'd never know it was recorded nearly 20 years ago. 5 stars!

Exactly...and having the 'oh jimmy!' shout out at the end of 'Calling To You' was pure cheek! :)

  9. Musically, Presence makes much more sense relative to their catalog if you listen only the  'new' tracks that were cut for Physical Graffiti first.  Nonetheless, if one calls ITTOD a pseudo  Robert Plant solo album, the same can be said of Presence for the Dark Lord.

Would have been interesting to see Jimmy use one of these guitars live in The Firm or Outrider.

I think that might have been brutal.  All three of them are really odd beasts to ride.  NOT conducive for slippery, sloppery players.  You really kind of have to learn a new style of picking to avoid a giant clam bake :)

Unfortunately, google and the internet in general is not very helpful for researching the

pre-Zeppelin recording and performance history of Plant and Bonham. Only persistent,

painstaking research of newspaper archives and collaboration with others ever seems

to bring these details to light.

And that's why you are vital to this entire operation.  The house would be THAT empty without you.

I truly appreciate everything you do for us!

  12. Evening all...

Can someone point me to any decent tabs or tips for anything off of the Death Wish 2 soundtrack - particularly interested in the main riffs to City Sirens and Who's to Blame.  My old ears just keep getting older so any help would be appreciated :)

There was no “activating” the amp overdrive. The overdrive sound was produced by turning the amp up loud, to stage volume. Page achieved his “clean” and “drive” sounds by rolling the individual volume controls for each pickup in his Les Paul up and down. At “10” on one Volume knob, he had the full signal going to the overdriven amp. Rolling that same volume knob back to, say, “5” cleaned up the sound because the overdriven amp was no longer receiving as loud of a signal from the guitar. The Les Paul also has a toggle switch to select the bridge pickup, the neck pickup, or both. Page would roll down the neck pickup’s volume for the intro to Over the Hills, to get the clean sound, and then flip the toggle switch to the bridge pickup already set at “10”, for use when the loud part of the song kicks in. The photo you posted is from the LA Forum, 1972. So, you can actually hear him use that exact rig all over that recording.

That's such an important aspect to really managing 'live Page tones' so fantastic call out and thank you!

I think some folks confuse his constant tone/vol adjustments as some sort of nervous tick - but he's really putting in the work to dial in what he wants, when he wants.   I haven't kept up with most modern players but it strikes me as a lost art...

  14. Hi,

I don't recall JPP ever using an overdrive or distortion pedal per se live with Zep; he did drop the use of a FUZZ pedal after 1971.

Note that he did get some additional 'hair' on his live tone via the pre-amp on his Echoplex.  In fact, they make seperate echo plex pre-amp pedals now just for that purpose: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/EP101--dunlop-ep101-echoplex-preamp-pedal.

All that being said, I believe the only effect he used live from 72 - 73 was an echoplex.  He didn't add the MXR90 phaser until 1975.

  15. I received mine yesterday.

Wow it is massive and fully of really interesting JP quotes and quips.  Very much worth it's price.

I had no idea JPP was such a hoarder.  By the end I thought there were be a deluxe, two page photo spread on a hamburger wrapper from 1972. :)

These are opinions, not amp settings!  He said so.
    Scores out of 10 I guess.... 😉

I mean, if you're going to give people amp settings for Jimmy first you've got to specify:

Is it live tone, or the tone used on an album for a specific song?

    If it's live:

    what year?
what amp? (WEM, Rickenbacker, Supro, Vox, Marshall, Petersberg, Orange, Fender, etc...)
what cabinets?  (are they open or close backed?  what speakers are in the cabs?)
    is he using the Tonebender?
is he running the guitar through the echoplex first?
is he using the Pete Cornish board?

    just for starters.....

What this fine individual nicely stated, x2 ;)
