My guess at a Sept '68 setlist would be something like

    Train Kept a Rollin

    Dazed

one of You Shook Me or ICYB, more likely the latter due to the (money-saving) lack or organ on the tour

Smokestack Lightning (possibly jamming into How Many More Times later in tour?)

Communication Breakdown (again later in tour, supposedly developed on this tour out of onstage jamming on "Train")

White Summer / Black Mountain Side

with improvs, band intros etc, about a 40 minute set is my speculation.

By November '68, As Long as I Have You would be in too, plus the drum solo, extending it to around 55 mins / an hour.

What makes you think that's when ALAIHY and the drum solo came in? Is it mentioned in reviews or is this speculation?

  2. Following same format as above...

1968: Anything, but the Marquee show is the holiest of grails for me.

1969:  5/27-29 - Boston Tea Party (Or anything else from May) - Their most underrepresented tour of America. Only 6 shows circulate, and 3 of them are full. The final Boston Tea Party show may very well have been the fabled marathon performance rumored to be 4 hours, with the Rolling Stones and Beatles Medleys

Pretty much agreed with everything else above

  3. I'd see no reason not to rejoice an official Japan release. Of course we aren't gonna get a 36 minute WLL on the official release, it's simply not doable for many different reasons. Fitting it all onto an LP, deciding what other tracks to cut because of a 36 minute song, copyright/royalties issues etc... but anything from this tour in multitrack quality is well worth celebrating. Even with whatever splicing and editing goes on. It's still the band at their peak, and Jimmy wouldn't release it if it weren't worth listening to (then again, we have different ideals of how listenable something is to Jimmy).

  4. Could this radio interview be the reason the tape is misdated? Just a thought

Edit: If I had to guess, I'd be led to believe this interview was conducted on 5/29. JJ refers to Jimmy as "blowing everyones socks off" (or something like that) on Tuesday Night. Tuesday would've been the 27th, Wednesday the 28th, and Thursday the 29th. Had this interview taken place on Wednesday, surely he would've said yesterday rather than Tuesday.

By this logic, this radio interview occurred just hours before the group put on an epic 4 hour marathon for the first time in their career. Crazy.

Right? Seems like there's some voicing going on there beyond the actual chords he's playing. Still the most unique live intro to the song I've heard and I absolutely love it. I'll keep trying at it and tab out what I think it might be when I get close enough to it!

I'd love to see what you can make out. I tried tabbing it a while ago, but idk where that is.

I guess you're underestimating the importance of that show. Bath 1969 (incl. Led Zeppelin) drew approx. 30.000 people. In 1970 they were widely accepted by English press and fans. Until that point it was mainly the States where they achieved success, the festival was a turning point in their career. It is said the festival attracted some 150,000 people and by the time Led Zeppelin took the stage it was grown to 200,000 people. BTW. it is also said an excellent soundboard recording exists.

You majorly misunderstood. When I said it's not like listening to the other two, I meant in quality. I fully understand what made this show great, it's one of my favorites.

    edit: SOUND quality

  7. Just yesterday, dadgad upped a new version of Milan '71 with a new source from the show. The show now contains a full Dazed and Confused and a minute and a half of Whole Lotta Love, which ends with tear gas going off. The tape is decently clear if a bit noisy.

You can read about it publicly here: https://www.guitars101.com/forums/f145/led-zeppelin-1971-07-05-milan-italy-two-source-mix-new-source-two-707607.html

That's what... 3 new sources popping up online these past few days? There must be something in the water.

I agree 100%. The three SBD tunes from Long Beach are my fav board recording. I love the sound of that tape, especially Bonzo's drums.

Also, the Minneapolis '75 tape is out there, but I don't think it's been picked up yet.... maybe EV has a copy and are biding their time.  I don't much care for another later 75 tour show as there are so many, but I would love to hear the songlist for those first few gigs with HMMT, Wanton Song , and Levee.

What's interesting about that Long Beach tape is that it actually isn't a soundboard -- I believe people have explained to me that it was actually an unaltered multitrack, explaining the great quality. So really, we've never heard even a snippet of a '72 SBD.

The Bloomington/Minneapolis tape is certainly available in some capacity, but apparently for about 20k. There have been discussions of crowd funding or something along those lines over on RO, hopefully that gets off the ground. I'm also not interested too much in a new '75 SBD, but Bloomington, Philadelphia, and Chicago night 2 would certainly be exceptions.

I’d throw in $500 but I’m not a member over there

As far as I'm concerned, this is not restricted to RO members. Anyone willing to chip in is appreciated in my book, and the recording would be made public once it's in our hands (again, as far as I'm concerned. This hasn't quite lifted off yet so the logistics haven't been set in stone.)
