Man did Robert really like this song - from the Band of Joy through Zeppelin in 1975 (I'm not aware of him singing it beyond 1975)... I'd love to ask him what was it about the song that he liked so much (I guess the answer is obvious). Curious if anyone knows if he's ever spoken about his love for the song or Buffalo Springfield?

Has he mentioned singing the song with the Band of Joy or is there a recording of it?

February 8, 1975 - Philadelphia -- 45 years ago today.  Amazing that this is one of only FOUR shows they ever played in Philly, given that it is the eighth-largest census metropolitan area in the States!

         - July 12, 1969

         - March 31, 1970

         - June 13, 1972

         - February 8, 1975

Those are it, and all were at The Spectrum.  Obviously, they were supposed to close the '77 tour with a massive show at JFK Stadium, but I wonder why it got skipped in '71 & '73 and covered so lightly the other years compared to other cities of similar (or smaller) size.  Misfortune of being right between New York and Washington?  Anyone older and wiser than me have any insight?

Hopefully a soundboard of this will surface one day, as it's one of Page's best post-'73 shows.  The audience tape isn't bad though once it clears up part-way through "In My Time Of Dying"...maybe even good enough for a matrix?

As someone who’s from the Philly area, I always bother people who I know have been to these shows if they had ever heard any tapes from the first three dates. Of course we have a fragmentary tape from ‘72, but any complete (and better sounding) tape from any of those shows is a gem for me for sure. I’m sure those performances were nothing short of fantastic.

  3. According to the thread on RO, these are scheduled to arrive on Saturday the 8th. Also, apparently what's being released (Heartbreaker fragment - Moby Dick) is "all that survives" of the tape.

However, I don't believe that at all. Perhaps that's all they can get (although again, highly doubt), but I believe some time ago they mentioned a release of Twist and Shout, which only appeared during the Whole Lotta Love medley the following night. If they have a soundboard for the next night's WLL, I have no clue what would prevent the previous night's from existing.

Good luck to you on that, very encouraging stuff there, hope he's willing to work with you!

By the sound of the original post, this guy actually originally reached out to ZepHead. With that in mind, I would think that he's very willing to share what he has. Fingers crossed!

I'm pretty sure I've asked this already - but are the original camera films on a shelf (even if digitised) - or long gone? In other words, are all the source camera footage somewhere - or no?

Back when Jimmy was remastering the movie and soundtrack in 2006 (I think), he mentioned in an interview that he couldn't make any changes to the visuals because of some copyright laws or something, I believe. If it were true that he would even consider doing that, that would lead me to believe he still has the original film. Someone like Sam or Steve A Jones may be able to shed more light on this.

Does anything beat the 9/19/1970 medleys? I need to go back through Japan 71 again, but I honestly think this show has the best run of medleys.

In terms of shows, MSG 70 Evening show is undoubtedly at the top of the list. The show ends in medley after medley after medley... can’t really beat it.

Personally, my favorite medley of their career is the Organ Solo medley at Seattle in 1972. The way the crowd explodes as they move from song to song is magical! Whole Lotta Love containing “Only the Lonely” from the same night is also great!

Another favorite (outside of Japan ‘71) would be Memphis ‘70 HMMT. The way the band soars above the hostilities with the police and is just absolutely on fire makes for an extremely entertaining listen.

  7. I also highly doubt the existence of full Bath footage or multi-tracks. From my memory, Bath was shot with a single camera from the side of the stage by some dude working on a documentary of sorts. I've never seen or heard any evidence that any more would exist, and I've never seen anyone try to support that conclusion until now.

Well Peter Whitehead owns the footage, it was believed unusable due to the fact that the lighting wasn't good with Zep playing at dusk. However: "Professor Chibnall said that Whitehead thought the footage was unusable due to insufficient lighting, but “it is usable because, I mean, it can be, it can be restored now. So you can raise those lighting levels, you can see more digitally,” the professor said. "

Can you supply any more evidence than this? Because as of now this seems very out of left field and unlikely.

I've asked Jason... He said his dad didn't own a RUSH album and never mention Peart to him. Jason first heard them for the first time around 1981/1982, on the 2112 LP and was blown away.

Damn, that's a bit of a shame. Well, at the very least Bonz's son knew of and respected the man, and that's something.

I would agree the band was much more consistent live from 68'-73' as it is quite difficult to find an even mediocre performance from that period. However 75'-79' had some amazing shows.

I would say that erratic performances began to creep in around the '73 England tour. Shows like Southampton prove Page and Plant were both beginning to struggle and drag the band down at times. The US '72 Tour is the last in which you could see the band on any given night and get a great show. Of course, with these inconsistencies, the band proved they could prevail quite well considering the years best and most memorable performances of the year. But this is steadfast balanced by the more shoddy performances (Southampton, both Chicago shows, Sheffield)

  10. At the end of the US '72 Tour, every song from the acoustic set, spare Bron Yr Aur Stomp, was removed from the set. At the beginning of the US '73 Tour, Bron Yr Aur Stomp was removed as well. The acoustic set was gone for the next two tours until Earl's Court 1975. The Song Remains the Same was recorded in Madison Square Garden at the end of the US '73 Tour,  so no acoustic tracks were played.

  11. How about this: If Jimmy were to release a "How the East Was Won," what would you hope the setlist would be?

    1. Immigrant Song: Main Song from the 24th, solo from the 29th

    2. Heartbreaker (29th, with some vocals from earlier dates)

    3. Since I've Been Loving You (23rd)

    4. Black Dog (24th)

    5. Dazed and Confused (29th)

    6. Stairway to Heaven (23rd)

    7. Celebration Day (28th)

    8. Please Please Me/From Me to You (28th)

    9. Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp (28th)

    10. That's the Way (29th)

    11. Going to California (29th)

    12. We Shall Overcome (28th)

    13. Tangerine (28th)

    14. Down by the Riverside (28th)

    15. Friends (29th)

    16. What Is and What Should Never Be (23rd)

    17. Moby Dick (23rd)

    18. Whole Lotta Love (28th - but y'know, with lots of picking and choosing with the medley, take stuff from other dates too)

    19. Communication Breakdown (23rd)

    20. C'mon Everybody (28th)

    21. High-Heel Sneakers (28th)

    22. Thank You (29th)

    23. Rock and Roll (29th)

  12. Channels such as LedZeppelinRarities and ledzepfilm have both reportedly had some copyright issues with a few shows from 1969. Shows like the April San Francisco stint and International Pop Festival have been taken down out of the blue. It's being theorized on reddit and Royal Orleans that this may be foreshadowing a new release. Here's  the thread on reddit and here's the thread on Royal Orleans. Let's hope this leads to something...

I tend to agree, I've seen your arguments for it and I do think there's at least a FEW tapes out there. If the '71 boards exist I'm sure there's recordings from the '72 US Tour; even in the moment I feel like it'd be pretty hard for the band to ignore that they were on a ridiculous stretch of shows that NEEDED to be documented somehow. My hope is that there's at least something from the stretch run that began in Nassau on the 14th through the end of the month; the couple weeks beginning with the Nassau show have some of the finest performances of their entire career (the 14th itself, the 19th in Seattle, and the 25th to name the most obvious ones). All we can do is keep hoping!

There's next to no doubt in my mind that at least a few shows exist. When it comes to them seeing the light of day or not, you're right, all we can do is keep hoping.

So we're assuming the soundboards didn't get stolen and are still in Page's possession? That shoots down the possibility of them seeing the light of day even more.

All we're surmising from this is that the 72 boards weren't stolen from Page's home with the '73 and '80 boards. This doesn't mean that we can't acquire them from other sources. For all we know, the showco employee that's been selling the revolution boards has these and EVSD simply isn't interested in them. Besides, we already have 4-5 boards from '71 (with another supposedly on the way), so it'd be foolish to assume that the '72 boards don't exist or that they'll never see the light of day. Is that possible? Of course, but at this point, it's all up to each individual's personal stance on the situation to think these boards will or won't show up. If they're only in Page's possession and no other sources have them available, I would reason that upon his death, we'll surely see something. It's honestly a 50-50 shot at this point imo.

I think the fact that nothing exists from 72 in soundboard form kills any possibility of anything actually existing. There was just no one who plugged into the soundboard that year for whatever reason. Grant must've been running the mixing board that year.

    "

Since we know at least a couple of summer 1971 board tapes exist, I still hold out hope like bluecongo said that the 70 (where possible like MSG) and 71-72 board tapes were not conveniently available for the thieves to locate at Jimmy's home. Think about it logically. We have a bunch of UK 72-73, Europe 73, and US 73 boards as well as 1980. That's the bulk of what they stole 30 years ago. We are getting 1975 shows through the Showco connection, and we know the 1977 tour would have a board tape from every night yet we only have a few shows in the 30 years since the big heist. So they clearly didn't find the 1977 tapes. But nothing from before the UK 1972 tour other than a couple of 1971 US shows. I firmly believe the best is yet to come for fans of 1970-72 and 1977!

    "

Quote from Ram4 on RO. This is keeping me optimistic, as it truly makes no sense that all these soundboards from January '73 exist yet nothing from the same tour in November or December.
