  1. Could be, but Page's playing at the LA gigs was damn fine for the most part. Maybe he caught the Zep in Tempe?
  2. EEEKKKKKKK.... That is one scary lady, I think? I think Phil is gonna have to call the Terminator to get rid of her, and I give Arnold a 50 - 50 chance of pulling it off.
  3. She's the dame who makes all that new age massage music:
  4. It was all politics for Ike, he did not want to rock the boat so he gave in to Monty at every opportunity. Both Monty & Bradley were way to cautious as generals. Patton was more along the lines of Zukov by comparison but with better military intelligence. One of the problems with Patton's persona is that he was the perfect tactical genius, he was not. Patton's greatest gift was finding the best tactical commanders like Truscott and Abrams to work under him, in conjunction with his use of combined airpower and intelligence to ensure he had the most accurate picture of the German troop positions possible. Patton is known as a tank guy but in reality his use of combined airpower and artillery was unmatched by any general on any side in the war. He literally was the first general to do this. Patton was not aggressive just to be aggressive, he was aggressive because he knew beforehand what the enemy was up to and how they were deployed. If somehow a German general ever surprised Patton (which never happened thank god), I doubt Patton would have come out on top due to his extreme reliance on battlefield intel and air support.
  5. They really need to do a movie about Patton encircling the whole Nazi army group in the Falaise Gap, asking Ike to stay in the British zone to close the gap and essentially end German resistance in the SW, and being told to pound sand as Monty demanded Patton's forces retreat back to the American zone which caused the gap and allowed significant German forces to escape. If Ike and his politics did not win the day and Patton had been allowed to keep the gap closed, the western allied forces would have been in Berlin no later than December 1944. Thanks Ike.
  6. I bet Eddie changed his opinion of live Jimmy post 1993. IMO 1992 - 2000 had Jimmy the most consistent of his whole career including Zeppelin. To elaborate, this period of performing (93'-2000') was Jimmy at his most precise, clean, and executed playing of his career. He played much more adventurously in Zep, and reached greater heights overall though. I kinda look at the Page & Plant tours as what Zeppelin would have been more like if Page indulged less on tour and focused on his playing. I also think there would not have been 30 minute marathon songs with improv abound either. Its always a trade off but Page put the "he is sloppy live" crap to bed after 1992 without any doubt.
  7. Welcome to the wonderful world of capitalism. You have to pay to play unfortunately, regardless of intent. It stinks and I am sorry there are no exceptions for the obvious.
  8. This "news" is so old it's balls are sagging and can't remember what it had for breakfast
  9. Funny story, I was eight when Presence was released and I was starting to really get into Zeppelin at the time via my older brother and a cousin. I actually went to the record store with a friend in 74' to pick up Elton John's Bennie & the Jets 45rpm so was into music at a very early age. Anyway, when Presence came out this was going to be my first full album purchase as I had saved my allowance money to buy my first album. It was a toss up between Presence & Funkadelic's Hardcore Jollies (always loved the funk) but when I got the issue of what I guess was Creem (I bought all the rock mags back then) and read that review about Robert singing from his gonads that was it, had to get Presence and listen to FYL as I had to know what the hell that would sound like. Kids, what can I say
  10. You should read the history of the conflict as it is a long and bloody one. The Azerbaijani worked in conjunction with the Turks during the Armenian Genocide which is one of the reasons the Armenians hate them. That land is not Azerbaijan, it is part of Armenia but was taken from the Armenians during the genocide. People can really suck, all this hate. It really is a shame.
  11. That's the review I was talking about, thank you kind Sir.
  12. Well, IMO Radiohead IS crap, never liked them and as mentioned is seriously overrated. The RHCP though are great in all their various incarnations. Plus Flea is one of the top 5 bass players period and Chad Smith is also in the top 10 drummers. Just love RHCP.
  13. I remember a scathing review (cannot remember which mag but most likely RS) on Presence where the reviewer when describing For You Life described Plant's vocal performance as something along the lines of Plant having some sort of medical condition related to his testicles. Not a good review. I have to somewhat agree as though I like FYL in general, I really do not like Plant's vocal as it sounds muddy and as if Plant was singing with a cold, almost congested. The other tunes do not sound like FYL in regard to vocals so I wonder if this was deliberate?
  14. My father was 65 when he passed years ago from cancer and that is just way too young. I know Eddie could be a prickly guy but no one deserves to die at 65. I just hope he did not suffer.
  15. Oh no, I agree, valid attempt indeed but even with practice I doubt DLR could have pulled it off and Alex never had the chops or ability of Bonham and HOFN is a serious drum track. I saw VH live several times from 81' - 88' (Monsters of Rock) and was only disappointed once which was at a show in 84' and Eddie was drunk as a monkey and could not play at all. It was pretty sad. That was the only bad show I saw them perform so I have no complaints. Though the show I saw in 81' was the best of the lot.
  16. Problem is Dave's vocals ruin both tunes IMO. Though I prefer their take on The Rover, they do not do a good version of HOFN. Dave sings the song like a lounge act and the band just, again IMO, has no balls or swing. HOFN is a very tricky tune to play, the drumming is some of Bonzo's best as he is switching up styles and time signatures throughout the song. Literally every member of the band has to be locked in perfectly otherwise forget it. So again, IMO, the weakest links here are Alex & Dave though Eddie's flanger kinda screws up the tune as well.
  17. Please tell us how you really feel 😉 I really like their first three albums without Perry, really strong prog rock without becoming too pretentious like Yes or ELP. Judas Priest would be seriously influenced by both early Journey & early Styx believe it or not. Sad Wings of Destiny & Sin After Sin lift heavily from early Journey and the Styx Equinox album. Perry is one of the top 5 rock singers hands down and he is a truly nice guy. I liked their stuff up to Departure and they had some good tunes on Escape, Frontiers, and Raised on Radio but they are the tunes that never got airplay. Mother Father off of Escape is a really good tune and Back Talk off of Frontiers is wacky fun.
  18. For me, I always thought EVH was somewhat of a one-trick pony. Technically he was an excellent player, but the majority of his solos were just variations on the same theme. Page was more creative both sonically & structurally and focused much more on the crafting of the song vs. just ripping out a blazing solo. That is the main thing I love about Page, the solo HAD to fit the song, not the other way around. Page could go rip-ass on Communication Breakdown, or simple like MMH, or bizarre like Hots on for Nowhere / Hot Dog, or no solo at all like Immigrant Song and Wearing & Tearing. The man was all over the place. EVH developed a style and stuck with that style for his whole career. Not knocking EVH in any way, but the difference for me comes down to creativity and Page had it in spades. RIP Eddie, you were one of my guitar inspirations.
  19. Farewell Eddie, your playing will be missed. RIP
  20. Another sad loss, just a monster guitarist.
  21. The Phoenix area has always been notorious as a shitty place to play, especially up to the 1980's. They had shitty venues until they started building real ones in the 90's and the audience was your typical out of control troublemakers. Things got much better in the 90's with new venues and security that would toss you out as soon as look at you. Once they got serious that music was a business, the situation improved dramatically. This is why Phx was considered a secondary market for concerts until the 90's.
  22. Do you remember Page almost getting blown up by the pyrotechnics which caused the show to go downhill? The source I have for this show (very incomplete) has Zeppelin sounding ok (about Seattle level) up until the beginning of ALS when Jimmy is almost blown up by a flash-pot which F-ed him up for the remainder of the show. I can't exactly blame Zep 100% when their guitarist is almost made into a human Roman Candle.
  23. Ever do a roof before? Its actually not that hard unless you have to replace structural such as joists but if there is minimal rot on the joists no need to replace, just sister them. Plywood is easy, underlay, tar-paper, shingles and some flashing and that's a full re-roof. If you can do with just a re-shingle and tarpaper you could knock that out in an afternoon. Bonus. Have your landlady make you a pitcher of Mint Juleps for a job well done.
  24. What, no Live Aid flanger on Jimmy's guitar? Oh darn 😞
