  1. Thats a good sign, I really hope Susan joins them on Wednesday. She has a great voice for that type of music and she can really play the guitar too (seen the Crossroads 2007 dvd?)

Yeah I have both of the Crossroads DVDs. I'm not a huge fan of her guitar playing, but it is pretty good. I have tix to see her in TO on July 3rd, maybe Derek will join her there too!

  2. I am a LOYAL fan but I don't hate non-fans and I don't blame others for thinking that doing so is WRONG.

There were PLENTY of reasons for what LDW said.

    Yes, bingo!

Wow didn't realize that simply being RATIONAL would cause such a ruckus...

  3. Personally,I haven't met anyone, but there was a guy once who said to me that Led Zep is boring and not to play their songs.

Actually,he was a good friend of mine until he said that.

Haven't spoken to him anymore. Now I wish I could punch him in the face and toss shit over his beloved rap and Britney Spears and...I must stop.

Ummmm no offense but you sound like a nut job.

Just because someone doesn't like Zeppelin doesn't make them a bad person. I know a number of people that don't like them and I still somehow find it in me to speak to them.

  4. I tend to talk with a little too much drama/sarcasm in my words (I can't help that, I'm from NY). Trust me, I won't be hugging stangers on the street tomorrow. I just feel that after nearly 100 million people vote, that says a little something about whom America views as an "Idol" (since the final contestants were so different in style, etc.). Again, I am happy for Kris. I love when the under dog wins one.

    I know, isn't that depressing/pathetic/terrifying?

Yay for Adam not winning. :D

  5. Oh god I hate American Idol.

Some things I was thinking about last night- the judges are morons, they never say anything relevant. Paula and whatsherface, honestly, SHUT UP!! They are so damn annoying, they just LOOVEE everybody. I mean, go have another Valium and rum! They need to get some judges on that show who actually know what they're talking about.

Adam is still just god awful to me, and Kris just sounds like one out of 1,000000 Justin Timberlake pop voices. They pretty much ruined all my favourite soul singers last night. Adam singing A Change is Gonna Come??! I literally almost cried! Kris' Aint No Sunshine was probably the most tolerable, but his voice isn't anything special; Danny is 382948324832 times better, don't understand why he is not there and Kris is!

But what could I expect from these shows really! Don't know why I care. I'll just go put on a Sam Cooke record and all will be right with the world... B)

  6. I went to the Toronto premier.... I loved it, it really is a great film. At the end of it the two guys from the band, Lips and I think his name was Rob (the drummer), and the director of the film stood up and spoke and answered questions from the audience. It was really cool. We loved the movie so much that I bought a t-shirt and my bf bought a CD. Both of us actually hate the kind of stuff Anvil plays and would never listen to it otherwise. So yeah its seriously a great movie and its SO cool to see these guys getting more attention!!

  7. You act like Nickelback never struggled at the bar scene and their fame was handed to them on a silver platter. Have you checked out Sons of Albion (Robert Plant's son's band). They are good, and with a name like Logan Plant, you would think they would have hit the big time. However, how many thousands of little struggling bands never get discovered?

Even Led Zeppelin, as huge as they were, never pulled in the awards...poor things...as LZ laughs all the way to the bank.

Anyway, if the purpose of the Juno Awards was to find undiscovered talent, then yes, Nickelback scoring is wrong. But if it's anything like the Grammy's, it's not about little-known talents out there, it's about commercial success, a popularity contest and I'm sure behind the scenes very political.

I like Nickelback, but really the awards shows mean nothing to me because of the above-stated reasons.

    Just my two-cents' worth.

    Peace & Love,

I know that the Junos are a popularity contest like the Grammys. And the award shows don't mean anything to me either. BUT I think the Junos, if they really cared at all about Canadian music, should take more of a responsibility to try to promote struggling bands, because of the nature of the Canadian music scene. The Canadian music scene is very different from the American one; Canadian bands really struggle because there just isn't a big enough audience for them to be successful here. In America the population is just so big that its 1000 times easier for their bands to succeed. I'm not saying that the Junos should 100% dedicate themselves to promoting obscure undiscovered bands, because that's not possible, unfortunately business and politics always take precedence to a large degree, as you noted. But given that Canada's entertainment market is so dependent on the American one and that our own homegrown music and culture ends up taking a backseat to whatever corporate shit will make the most money from the American market (i.e. NICKELBACK) , I think it would be nice if the Junos could make a LITTLE bit more effort to promote Canadian culture-- giving Nickelback five awards is doing the exact opposite of that. It makes them look like they don't even care one bit about the Canadian culture dilemma.

And I'm not acting like Nickelback never struggled in the bar scene. And yes there are thousands of little bands that never make it, that's my point. Nickelback is the perfect example of corporate rock, all their songs sound the same and this is on purpose to make more money. Regardless of whether you like the band or not, they are not so much a band but a business project, like much of today's popular cookie cutter music Other, better, Canadian artists deserve the spotlight more than Nickelback does. Canadian institutions, that could be in the position to promote Canadian music, such as the Junos, should take more of a responsibility to do so. Because bands like Nickelback don't need to be promoted when they are already so hugely successful.

  8. I'm with you on both counts. I just don't buy Adam as a rocker; too much (shrieky) vibratto and it seems like he is in rocker costume; I don't buy it as authentic with him. (I was yelling at the tv; "It's horrible! I hate it!", lol)

    I love Allison though!

I thought Kris was the weakest link tonight.

I agree with you on all counts also! I thought Danny's performance was a bit unfortunate, Aerosmith did not suit him AT ALL. That last note was pretty bad, like Simon said....he could have picked a different song that would have been way better for him. Something more ballad-y, maybe. And yeah right away I knew Kris' performance would be weak, because Come Together just isn't that interesting vocally. There's not really a lot there for a singer to be able to showcase their stuff on. He too coulda picked a better one!

  9. I don't think the bashing of Nickelback has anything to do with any sort of backlash (critical or otherwise), from my perspective it has to do with the fact that they suck.

Agreed. Nickelback is one of my biggest pet peeves in the world. They give Canadian music a bad name! They just won, like, 6 fucking Juno awards (Canada's equivalent of the Grammys) or something. WTF?!?!?! Nickelback is just garbage and needs to go die. And Chad Kroger is a huge douchebag.

  10. Omg I completely agree -_- ..didnt like it

Its hard to sing Robert Plant... I can't say that I actually disliked Adam's performance, it was just exactly what I expected- the typical rock cliche! Okay, I'll stop dissing Adam now because he does seem like a sweet guy. :D

  11. He could be the lead singer for Zepp if they reunited. He kicked ass on that song.

I would have to bring a barf bag to the show. :(

Adam can SING, his style is just way too contrived and cliche for me. Danny and Chris are just finishing performing now and I have to say I like their voices so much more than Adam's, because they're very natural sounding... unlike Adam. Sounded great on those harmonies!

  12. Whole Lotta Love...not that bad...

Allison does Janis..... just ok for me!

I liked Allison's performance a lot better than Adam's. Sorry but I just do not like him!

The judges were surprisingly harsh on Allison. I was surprised. I thought her performance was great.

  13. Being successsful in music has as much to do with luck as anything, I'm sure the Killers guy understands that. Honestly I don't think his rant has anything to do with Led Zeppelin or the music scene in the US but was a great way for him to get press and attention for his band. Obviously it worked, one interview managed to get a whole bunch of people acting like a 12 yr old with a hardcore crush defending a love interest that has been slighted. Anyone that overreacted to this guy's comments has been played.

    Yesss thank you!

  14. Yeah, some of us are older!

    Take your own advice.

Someone else reckons, "the old purists just automatically reject it because its not what they're used to".

    Stupid generalisations again.

I'm a purist and I like everything the boys have done either as Led Zeppelin, solo or the collaborations, even Robert & Alison Krauss.

I bought and loved the first cd and I'll buy the second.

    Because it's all different!

Anybody who truly appreciates music accepts that it will change, sometimes for the better and sometimes to the detriment of listeners.

IMO The Killers or Nirvana will never leave the indelible mark on music or a lasting legacy the same as Led Zeppelin have.

    Don't believe me?

Well I bet they'll still be playing Zeppelin on radio in thirty years time.

As for The Killers or Nirvana?

I doubt it, but it doesn't mean they aren't any good, just not great.

Yes, but there are SOME PEOPLE who appear not to. These are the specific people I was talking about, I wasn't making generalizations.

And if the Killers will make a mark or blahhblahh has little to do with the point of Brandon's remark. He was making a more general remark about how hard it can be for artists to 'make it' in the U.S. market. In my interpretation.

  15. Candyman is one of my very faves from last year. :)

I like a few of her songs. But I think she's waayy too theatrical with her voice. All those super contrived vocal runs drive me nuts! It makes me sad more than anything because she could have an AMAZING sound if only she could be more natural, and quit with all the vocal acrobatics.
