  1. Another thing to consider is how much time are you going to spend in critical listening mode, versus enjoying the audio ride? As long as the sound is good, and the latest releases generally are, and you’re equipment is good enough to create a good listening sound. Then do you need more? If if you have a really top notch system then you probably do need the best versions such as the Classic Records releases, because the improvement in sonic quality will become more noticeable. If you just want to play the albums knowing you have good quality sound without getting all analytical then I’d say the latest releases are plenty good enough for that. Its about matching the product to your system.
  2. When you dig your Technics turntable out, put a new stylus on it. An old or worn stylus doesn’t sound pretty and it may damage your new grooves
  3. I think that’s the first time I’ve read him say that his sigil was chosen and that it’s been around for so long. i.e. he didn’t create it, or at least, adapt it from something else
  4. I only ever wrote to band once nd that was to Jimmy when he lived at the Old Mill House in 1981. I must have been lucky because he did reply. I’ll try to send a picture
  5. According to a book I’ve just fished (Page by Chris Salacwesz) The idea of a biopic was raised in the ‘90’s but was turned down by Planty
  6. Yes. What would be the point of it? I find it cringe inducing whenever I’ve seen someone pretending to be Planty in tribute bands. I couldn’t imagine a whole film of it I don’t know any serious music fan that thought the Queen film was cool. It was a film for the post Live Aid fans that only have the greatest hits album and went to see their musical, so they could sing along while eating popcorn
  7. I think he’s tricking us. He only said that to put us off the scent so that when his solo work appears (next year, always next year) it’ll be a surprise! Or maybe not. I’m glad he’s said it at last
  8. I think the EVH statement on Pages sloppiness was in relation to the 77 tour, which he’d seen. Didn’t he say it was like watching a baby with a broken hand playing? Something like that
  9. JPJ plays a main riff on this song. Whether it’s the actual bit you’re referring to I don’t know
  10. I’m just finishing this book. I enjoyed the very early days up to and including the session years. I found that once it got onto Zeppelin it became like most the others. I learned some new things from this part of the book There certainly are a few errors / misunderstandings though, including a few oft repeated ones. Such as; Page played most the second Oakland date seated, Barrington Colbey has never been found so Page is mostly likely the artist of the inside of the fourth album, he isn’t aware that ZoSo was found in the centuries old book, so he concludes it’s derived from a tarot set (both these points seem slack given this book is from 2018) Mickey Most owning 1% of the band in perpetuity. Plus the one that stuck out most to me, that Keith Richard gave Page the stolen .black beauty. What made him think that? Ive certainly read worse ones though
  11. I’m reading Chris Salewicz’s Page biography nd in it he states the the black beauty that was stolen was a gift from Keith Richards. I have never read any such suggestion in any book or magazine etc before. Surely not? I did say few years ago I wouldn’t buy my more books but it was reduced so I couldn’t resist. It seems good up to and including the session years, but now we’re into the band there seems to be quite a lot of mistakes that would be very easily checked
  12. I like the performances of Tea for One from japan. one of them in particular is a very nice version with Page on great form. I'm not sure which of the three(3) version it was, but in my opinion, it easily surpasses the other ones
  13. I think I ought to try and find a copy of ''in for a quick garden' can you tell me if it has the full no quarter guitar solo as on the soundtrack or is it the same as in the original film? thanks
  14. I re-read recently an interview with Kevin Shirley in which he said Planty had been a lot more hands on with this release than others, which probably explains the removal of some of his adlibs in the songs, particularly TSRTS, and in-between song chatter. Page's explanation that the soundtrack needed to match the film doesn't hold up fully as there are some glitches in the film that have been repaired on the soundtrack, so why not have repaired them all? Even after all these years it still frustrates the fuck out of me. It is the worst album I've ever heard in my life. Consider that, a band as huge as Zeppelin, releasing an album full of edits so amateurishly bad a deaf man would sense a change in the timing and groove. I can't think of any other album that contains one edit as bad as the ones in D&C, WLL, NQ etc, let alone a group of them. if anyone does know of one please let me know as I'd love to check it out. I know some weren't happy with HTWWW, but at least it didn't have shocking edits included The addition of the new songs is fantastic, but the trashing of the songs previously releases is unforgivable. I can't see that it will ever be revisited to be improved as its been done twice now. What a fuck up all round. Whoever gave the go ahead for releasing it wants locking up for crimes against music
  15. I had forgotten that Planty’s mention of JPJ was omitted. But if that’s your gripe against the newer version of No Quarter, you’re lucky. I can’t play it without wanting to smash my stereo. My favourite solo butchered I only play the songs that weren’t originally included, for the the others I play the original album
  16. but he plays in a band with another guitar player, two keyboards, horns and backing singers, and doesn't play complex pieces. there's quite a difference. my opinion is that Keith has been hopeless fir decades and Ronnie does most the work anyway. make Keith play the gig on his own without all the add on players and then we'll see what he's capable of

    Jimmy Page Pickups

last night I chanced upon a youtube clip of Joe Bonammassa playing Tea For One and I noticed that his pickups were also pretty much flush with the pick up surround. I checked mine (tokai mid 80s copy) and that is also, though all my other guitars with pick ups are raised higher, and one or two quite a bit higher.

    Jimmy Page Pickups

What size gap would that create between strings and pick up cover?
  19. I remember SAJ commenting something like -some of us want a Jaguar, not a Ford- when the first signed Page luxury edition book was released, ten years ago? and some forum commenters wondered why it was better to buy that instead of the unsigned plain version. Which was fair enough at that time Now it seems Page is signing Fords and passing them off as Jaguars
  20. You’re probably right. They sell for more than double the price I paid for them now. My plan was to sell one when they reached this price, so effectively getting one for free. I paid £750 framed each, now they’re £1500+. I’ll do so when the gallery sell the last one and they’ve increased the price more But a signed photo for £1600? To buy all four of these signed photos will cost £6400! It’s nuts. No one on this forum, so far, seems to think it’s a good thing. What was the price of a signed J.P. book, however many years ago it was? At least that had substance to it. Now it’s all just cashing in, and he has a very high rating of his own signature’s worth. Seemingly higher than most of us on here agree with
  21. There was a recent video from an American making English tea and getting it all very wrong. The water must be boiled in a kettle, not a microwave, then it’s poured over the teabag and left to brew, usually a minute or two. Then, the milk and sugar is added, not before. The milk is only added first if the tea is first brewed in a teapot, which doesn’t happen much these days i don’t drink the stuff
  22. He’s sold so many autographed things now, and will probably continue to do so that I believe he’s devaluing them. I bought two Led Zeppelin 4 signed prints around 2002, before he started selling polo shirts and signed anything-he-could-find-lying-around I’m starting to think I shouldn’t have bothered. Maybe he should get a shop and just sell signed stuff for the rest of his days. It all seems quite tawdry to me
  23. I fully agree. It’s ridiculous
