  1. OK, every so often, one of these movies comes along. I remember when I saw Avatar, and IIRC, I actually said something to this effect in this very thread back when I saw it. Which is, basically, that 3D and CGI had reached a point where it truly allows an incredible vision to be realized. This is the type of movie I was talking about. I regret not seeing this in 3D IMAX at the theater, but I am fortunate to have a good friend with an incredible home theater system - one of those new 4K UHD Curved screen TVs with 3D, and an incredible sound system. He also had some awesome Golden Goat medical bud, which put the whole viewing experience into hyperdrive, LOL. Honestly, this may be one of the best movies I have ever seen. The thought that kept popping into my head was, "I can't get over how well this is done." The CGI is so realistic that suspension of disbelief is effortless. You are swept up and taken on such an incredible journey, it was disappointing when it was over. Just when you think you can't possibly be wowed any more, it takes it to yet another whole new level. And it has everything. There are parts that will make you want to cry, parts that are literally hysterically funny, as well as intensely dark, creepy scenes and characters. It has awesomely jarring transitions that leave you reeling. And the whole thing is grounded with an absolutely incredible soundtrack that is integral to the entire story. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a movie this much. You don't have to like Science Fiction or Fantasy in order to thoroughly enjoy this movie. I cannot give any higher recommendation than I have for this movie. If you like an entertaining, exciting movie that will make you laugh, as well, you have to see this movie. It'll be the best $2 you ever spent at Redbox. Oh, and like a lot of movies these days, there are a couple extra scenes after the credits roll - keep watching all the way to the end (FF through if you want, LOL).

    Make me laugh!

My son posted this on Facebook, and it made me LOL. What's the laziest thing you've ever done? I can't top this crap. "I was once on a US Military Ship having breakfast in the wardroom (Officer's Lounge) when the Operations Officer (OPS) walks in. This guy was the definition of NOT a morning person; he's still half asleep, bleary eyed... basically a zombie with a bagel. He sits down across from me to eat his bagel and is just barely conscious. My back is to the outboard side of the ship, and the morning sun is blazing in one of the portholes putting a big bright circle of light right on his barely conscious face. He's squinting and chewing and basically just remembering how to be alive for today. It's painful to watch. But then, zombie-OPS stops chewing, slowly picks up the phone, and dials the bridge. In his well-known I'm-still-totally-asleep voice, he says, "heeeeey. It's OPS. Could you... shift our barpat... yeah, one six five. Thanks" And puts the phone down. And then he just sits there. Squinting. Waiting. And then, ever so slowly, I realize that that big blazing spot of sun has begun to slide off the zombie's face and onto the wall behind him. After a moment it clears his face and he blinks slowly a few times and the brilliant beauty of what I've just witnessed begins to overwhelm me. By ordering the bridge to adjust the ship's back-and-forth patrol by about 15 degrees, he's changed our course just enough to reposition the sun off of his face. He's literally just redirected thousands of tons of steel and hundreds of people so that he could get the sun out of his eyes while he eats his bagel. I am in awe. He slowly picks up his bagel and for a moment I'm terrified at the thought that his own genius may escape him, that he may never appreciate the epic brilliance of his laziness (since he's not going to wake up for another hour), but between his next bites he pauses, looks at me, and gives me the faintest sly grin before returning to gnaw slowly on his zombie bagel."
  3. Saw Interstellar in IMAX - yowza. Saw this one last night and was really surprised how much I liked it. Quite a number of subtle mind-bender moments. Definitely recommended.

    Happy Halloween!

No credit to me - I just bought them at Kroger for $1.49 each.

    Happy Halloween!

Nice bump, and so timely! This was half-price at Kroger last night - best $1.49 I've spent lately! Just a simple nylon cap with a skull face printed on. I also got the other one that was the last one left, except it had a jack-o-lantern face instead. Of course, I'm set up for work today. Didn't have enough time to do as good of a job this morning, but I'll have it right for tonight, since we're going to a party. Happy Halloween!
  8. You're possibly referring to this - "Betty White Dyes Peacefully In Her Los Angeles Home"? http://fox13now.com/2014/10/04/betty-white-readers-mistake-dyes-for-dies-in-satire/

Holy shit that made me LOL hard! Re-posted to FB.
  10. Happy Birthday, Sean! Hope it's a good 'un! Exactly 2 weeks after mine (July 15)!
  11. Amazing how the internet brings us closer with new friends and acquaintences. RIP Pottedplant, sincerest thoughts and prayers.
  12. A number of extended exposure shots from July 4, 2014 at home. My son was shooting some roman candles, so I set up the tripod and took some 10-15 second exposure shots. Pretty cool results, especially when cars go by.
  13. Some shots I took during the Holiday weekend. These are from our July 3, 2014 Fireworks show.

  16. Which, I would suggest, was his basic point to begin with. If, as a parent, you can't arrange proper care for your child(ren), you have no business being out having fun.
  17. He wrote The Loco-Motion??? Damn, one of my favorite songs ever. I absolutely loved the original by Little Eva when I was a kid - only 5 or 6 at the time. So, of course, I could only love the Grand Funk version when it came out. RIP. OK, I wasn't aware Kylie Minogue did a version. Just listened to it, and... meh. Still the song I like, but probably the least engaging version I've heard, very flat and lifeless. I can't even decide which version I like best - Little Eva or Grand Funk - only that I like the Kylie Minogue version the least.
  18. Me, too. Tony Gwynn was one of the truly really good guys in the game. I've always admired him. RIP TG.
  19. RIP Al Feldstein, longtime (28 years!) editor for Mad Magazine. http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2014/04/30/us/ap-us-obit-feldstein.html?_r=0
