  1. Well J, speaking for myself, it all boils down to laziness. I own the damn thing, all i have to do is go down in the basement and get it...or I could just google it, like you mentioned...sorry. I guess I just assume that since this is the janis thread that most individuals must know what I'm referring to. Especially since it's not a boot or anything...officially released product. You're shaming me into getting up, Jahfin....gggrrrrr.....
  2. Man, I ove that song and album, er, disc!!! I like when he clears his throat sayin "all you's in radion land, you not stretchin' out..." what an excellent cd, imnsho!!!
  3. anyone listen to "what good can drinkin' do?" yet, janis' first known audio...power personified... i posted similar feelings sometime ago, just cant get enough of this song and wish others have heard it...from '97 (?) box set, disc one, track one (pretty sure, anyway) it's worth aquiring....imho
  4. good catch, R.A. One of my faves from the '90's. Also, I LOVE LOVE LOVE "This note's for you" ! I know it's not on that album, but close to it, time wise...I remember the --it holes at MTV wouldn't play it because it had the spoof of Michael Jackson getting his hair caught on fire...I believe they ended up giving in, eventually...jerks "aint singin' for pepsi, aint singin' for coke..."
  5. that is amazing! how come stuff like that never happens to me!?? !
  6. i need to close up the 'p' on the tat...

  7. yeah! that's the one that did it for me, that song especially and "Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner" - awesome! up the irons! hee hee...even though i'm 44 now...i saw them in san diego a week before the "Live after Death" ablum/video shows in long beach. great show, sound NOT LOUD ENOUGH!!!! Same thing when i saw them STL '86 - great show, sound not loud enough. I learned about iron maiden from my room mates in the service and it used to drive me crazy! I didn't like them because, well, as most of us know, there will really only be one true band for us... but after hearing "Two minutes to midnight" a million times (along with all their other albums i was beginning to learn...i started to get it and began to learn how to live in the post zep world...
  8. i was just re-reading my post for the first time and I saw i didn't describe some things good enough and others way too much...but i remebered it was strobe lights and thus the slow-mo effect...and a few minutes later i read your reply about the strobes!!! it was a great show for me, I was impressed by Ian Anerson and his abilities...my sister played flute in school and always had their albums, which i didnt recall til just now...she used to attempt to play (and wasnt half bad) at some of the Ian parts and things like Marshall Tucker "Fire on the Mountain" et al. and i'm sure the weed didn't help...
  9. Hey y'all...a friend of mine i met through work is a real bonamassa freak, thankfully, 'cause that's how I learned about him...now I have probably every one of his discs, a few live dvds and saw him open for Kenny Wayne Sheppard and BB King a few years ago in st.louis. I think he is very good, and also did hear about "BloodLine", just never heard any of it, though. Has anyone heard it? Back to Joe...like i said, i think he is good, just something about the vocals...i dont know...I dont have a lot of time to listen to music and he's just not the first, second or third thing i reach for...but when i have my disc player on random and it comes up...not bad at all. He delivers live, as well, imho...
  10. My mom got tickets to bring me and my sister to JT/UH at the arena...we were already familiar with some of their music, my mom had that live Uriah Heap album and a few JT albums... The night of the show came...we got to our seats. right side of the stage in the raised section, looking a bit forward and to our right. Uriah Heap opened up and from what little i can recollect, they performed an AWESOME show ( 'course, at that time I had absolutely NO measuring stick to compare them to)... Jethro Tull came on and played...the only recollection was Ian Anderson doing flute solo's, a lot of backround strobes... What a memory, though, the parts I can remember anyway! I'm pretty sure they played "Aqualung", "Skatin' away" and their other big songs of the day....good show over-all...cant really say for sure, 'cause I was blown away! I thought the entire show was great...my first frickin' concert! edited for spelling and punctuation and tmi - SFL
  11. Just finished reading a news story about Janis. The house she moved into when she was four has had a marker placed on it...Port Arthur, Texas...
  12. Great story, Zep73! What memories...and you got the girl, albeit 35 yrs later! Awesome story...
  13. I think they actually went out on a date once. I guess Dick realized he was in way over his head with her...he probably got drank under the table on the first date! Dick Cavett actually is a super intelligent, gifted individual...just not in the same league w/Janis.
  14. Yeah, I have a really crappy copy someone burned for me. Three or four of the performances from this tour are on that movie "Janis" that I was referring to in an earlier post. I had that on VHS in the late eighties/early nineties...might even still have it. 'Course, love to get that on dvd. If it is on dvd, crap, it's probably like, 15 bucks. And that's a real shame about her legacy not being guarded...Bright Midnight and Dagger records have been a godsend -an alternative for the hardcore fans.
  15. My computer at work glitched out or something, sorry...right when i was getting ready to get off, too (work, that is) hee hee...
  16. right, that's the one...I remember her on Dick Cavett, the part where he asks her if she was popular in school and she relates to him how she was basically laughed out of Port Arthur (high school)...and then she mentions her reunion and how she's "goin' back"! This actually gets a laugh/cheer from the audience...it was one of those "You Go, Girl!" moments!!! Also, read a biography of hers (or two) awhile back. Did you know that Dick Cavett was apparently infautated with Janis and actually asked her out...and they did go out at least once, I believe...

  18. I used to have this biography video called "Janis" and it had a lot of live performances, Dick Cavett show, etc...this movie was good because it actually showed the entire performances, not just little snippets of songs. I recorded it to cassette (the audio) from playing the vhs...so i had my own "soundtrack album" -just edited out the interviews, recorded all the concert and studio tracks...one of the studio cuts is "Summertime", done live in the studio (while the camera rolls...) excellent! Oh yeah, if you haven't seen it, it starts out with "Mercedes Benz" playing in the backround while the camera pans around her car...yeah, the psycedelic Porshe that supposedly was hand painted...I wonder if they have this on DVD?
  19. I also have trouble resisting, "Dear Landord" or "Work me, Lord" so many good songs...and I'm not even talking about her 'hits'.
  20. I guess you already know, but this is all her studio albums (re-mastered) plus one disc which is kind of a "cream of the crop" version of the box set i mentioned in my earlier post...And maybe a few outtakes which aren't part of the afforementioned box...(I think) it's been awhile since i listened to the "bonus" disc, though...
  21. Well, thanks for starting the thread! I too am a Janis freak, though nowhere near as much as LZ...i have so many favorite janis songs, but the real revelation to me was when a three disc box set came out in the late 90's (i believe). It is the one with that famous nude w/beads pic on the inside...anywho, excellent set...I believe the very first song on disc one is, "What good can drinkin' do". This is (according to liner notes) her very first known audio recording, supposedly in 1962. The power of her vocals on this track alone is unbelievable! Amazing, unbridled power and passion...I had never heard it up until that point...blown away and still am every time i hear it! I highly recomend this set to anyone...it has a LOT of alternate takes, unreleased songs, etc... The song that ties the above listed track is another one from this box set, an incredible, unreleased track (almost positive, anyway) named simply, "Misery 'n" I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And honorable mention goes to "Farewell Song"...her shoes have never been filled...
