I love all kinds of animals, but especially dogs. I enjoy all kinds of music, though I'm not particularly fond of country or most current pop music. I kind of take pride in finding obscure artists. I'm a lifelong environmentalist, and I try to keep informed of the developments in environmental science. I'm a dedicated liberal, and I really dislike American politics for the most part... it feels like I'm choosing the lesser of two evils every time I vote. I really have enjoyed travelling the last few years, but my favorite place to go will always be the Rocky Mountains.
  1. I had to do some "educating" for my sister as well... as soon as she popped off with a "I don't think I want a Muslim running our country." Thankfully, both of my parents and my other 2 siblings are big Obama supporters (my brother was also elected as a delegate from his precinct to go to our county convention) and there is very little political dissent in our family. Having Barack run for president, though, has certainly opened my eyes on how prevalent prejudices in this country still are. One woman at our caucus openly said she supported Hillary instead of him because "she's the color o
  2. Is it not an amazingly uplifting experience to hear the man speak? You just don't get the full effect of his message by catching the clips on the news. I expected to come away from the rally excited and uplifted. I had no idea that I'd also walk away moved and inspired.
  3. Just gotta offer my latest... I was one of the over 11,000 people who packed the Omaha Civic Auditorium on Thursday for the Obama rally, and one of tens of thousands of Nebraskans who participated in our first-ever Democratic caucus tonight. (And Obama got Nebraska, by the way... by A LOT) I was also elected caucus chair for my precinct, and elected one of the two delegates from my precinct to go on to our county convention. I was on the fence for awhile between Hillary and Obama, leaning more toward Hillary until I researched a bit more. And I have been hands-down a vigorous Obama
  4. I really don't know what that has to do with anything I've had to say, but you raise an interesting point. It could go a long way toward explaining why Paganism (especially Wicca) is one of the fastest growing religions today, given that it tends to celebrate individualism and there isn't any need to impress the masses.
  5. The only time I mess with hard copy papers is if I'm interested in the coupons or ads in the Sunday paper, and that's once in a very great while that I take the time and remember to get after it. I typically get my news online. Never really have been all that attached to the paper version.
  6. And LZChick, I don't know what your mom's tests were for, but if they are what I think they are, I am happy for you too. I know how hard it is to wait and wait for news like that... it's the one thing that I wish oncology labs could get figured out. It almost takes more of a toll on the patient and their family to wait weeks for results than it does to actually begin the battle. Faster turnarounds sure would ease a lot of suffering all around.
  7. Today I was happy that I got all the rest of my office packing done so that I am now ready to move into the basement while our floor is being remodeled. This has been an ongoing thing where we were told to be ready like 4 months ago and are just NOW getting to move on Monday. I'm just very happy that we're finally moving forward with the whole thing and no one has to feel like they're being left in limbo anymore. And I'm really thrilled for the people who've been stuck in the basement for almost 6 months that they get to be going back to their floor with everything all done and brand new!
  8. Excellent point, Electrophile. I couldn't agree more. I think that's part of why I always kind of felt uncomfortable in church. Those moments where you're supposed to pray silently. I always kind of stood there with my head bowed and thought about... well, whatever. I have always prayed when I felt like praying, and not prayed when I didn't. Seems weird to impose it on anyone. And really, just the "rigid" setup of a church service anyway. You pray, you sing, you read parts of the bible, you sing, you offer, you pray, you listen to a sermon, you sing again, you pray, then you leav
  9. *Raises hand* That would be me. Well wait... actually, no need for the hut. I very much enjoy praying in the rain. Or in the sun, or in the dark, or in the snow... And I can't imagine maintaining a faith where you're SUPPOSED to pray indoors. Just to offer another viewpoint.
  10. Will do! Probably later on... was just checking in quick this morning before getting ready for work. Exactly. And don't you find that that's a really hard concept for MANY people to get, regardless of their spiritual path? It boggles my mind, personally- especially regarding people who have converted from one belief system to another.
  11. Psst.. me neither. Never thought I'd see the day when I like the dems in my neighbor to the east more than the dems in New England... but I guess there's always room for a surprise!
  12. Does anyone know where I can get the Chili Peppers' version of "Love Rollercoaster" BESIDES on the Beavis and Butthead Do America soundtrack? I'm dying to have that song, but it isn't on iTunes, and I haven't been able to turn it up anywhere besides on that soundtrack... which I really don't want aside from that song. Thankies!
  13. Since American politics are heating up, I thought it might be interesting to discuss politically-motivated films. Which have you seen? Which did you like? Which were eye-openers for you? Which did you dislike? Which did you think were grossly biased? I'll start: I just saw "Sicko," and it provoked a lot of thought for me. Discuss.
  14. I'm not so sure now. Since Iowa and NH, it's a hard call to make. I was personally gratified to see Iowa go nuts over Obama. Wasn't surprised, honestly, that NH went for Hillary.
  15. It's actually been relatively pleasant here.. daytime highs in the mid-40's for the past couple of days, and lots of sunshine. I'm glad, I really needed a break from the clouds and the cold. Hey, at this time of year, as long as it's above absolute zero, I'm happy!
