  1. Good topic!! I love acoustic guitar players and acoustic music in general. Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull is probably my fav. Check out the 2 minute acoustic ditties on the Aqualung LP.

I also enjoy Dylan, Leo Kottke, Cat Stevens and Willy Porter.

I still own and play a Guild D40, which I purchased in 1978.

  2. On another board someone accused the Avetts of "faking it", I'm curious to know what it is they were faking. Same for Mumford & Sons, particularly since you also referred to them as "charlatans".

There was no musicianship being displayed. They mugged for the TV, wore hats, bowties, etc. The music seemed to take a back seat to the showboating. I would have preferred Bob to use a 4 piece backing band playing acoustic instruments and displaying their talents. I'm sure both bands are talented, unfortunately anybody tuning in to the Grammy's would probably not be inspired to buy any of their music based on what was presented. I actually have a song by the Avetts courtesy of Starbuck's Pick of the Week.

  3. My main problem with the Dylan performance was that he would allow a dozen or so musicians to act like charlatans while they accompanied him. Maybe the people who run the Grammy's where behind it all. I would have preferred a more suitable backing band instead of the overblown, spectacle it was.

  5. You can contact whoever you want. You started it with your insults. Dont bother me again. I should have figured you would go crying to the mods. If they bann me it wont be because you have any power. I have done nothing wrong. Go start with someone else

Why did you send me the following PM?

"You are a wimp and a crybaby running to the mods and blowing the whistle. A pure rat. You started your shit insulting me. So Im supposed to sit here and take it? You are a fink."

  6. I've won a bunch of things. There was a period of time where I had radio call in contests down to a science.

    1. Trip for two to Super Bowl XXXI. Green Bay beat the Patriots in New Orleans. Round trip air, four nights hotel, spending money.

    2. Two tickets to see The Band at the Beacon Theater.

    3. Two tickets to see John Mellancamp at the Meadowlands Arena.

    4. Southside Johnny CD.

    5. Book about music of the 1960's.

    6. Two tickets to see Jethro Tull at the Paramount Theater in NYC.

  7. How can you say the Super bowl was played last week? New England granted probably should be representing the AFC. But the Jets? With Sanchez? No way. They are a dirty team. Green Bay and Pittsburgh will be a good one. What does my being a Bills fan have to do with anything I know about the game you jackbutt! You are the same dumb ass you have always been.

I'm tired of you being mean to me and attacking me and calling me names. I've contacted Sam to have your account banned.

  8. August, 1972 - ELP at Convention Hall in Asbury Park, NJ. I was 16. I bought three tickets. Sat somewhere near the back of the venue. I lived about 1 1/2 hours away. The guy who was supposed to drive, backed out a day or two before the show. My father ended up driving me and another friend to the show. My sister came along for the ride and walked the boardwalk with my dad during the show. I sold the extra ticket.

My second show at Convention Hall was around April 2005 for Springsteen and the Seger Sessions band rehersal show. The place is so small. I would guess it seats less than 2000 people.

  9. Great band. Fun to watch and they've got some great material. I've never seen them live. Guitar Player magazine seemed to always have articles about Nielson and his totally unique guitar collection. One such guitar was a five neck guitar.

  10. The band that haunts me??? I don't know their name!!!! I remember hearing a song in the 76/77/78 timeframe that I loved. I would hear the song on the radio, but never bought it. I'm almost sure they were a second or third tier punk band. Who knows maybe New Wave. As time passed, the band and my memory just disappeared. I'm almost sure the word rubberband was in the title of the song or a lyric. I can't for the life of me figure out a way to uncover the actual song or band. Everytime I see some odd compilation of songs from that period I scan it to see if maybe the song will be there or jar a memory. It's been driving me mad for 30 fucking years. CAN SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!!!!!

I "thought" I may have found the song. There is a song by Teenage Jesus and the Jerks called "Burning Rubber". Alas, it's not the same song. Anyway the various related wikipedia pages are a somewhat interesting read.

  11. Anybody else enjoying this show on VH1? They recently finished a season taping in LA. A guest guitarist sitting in the audience would rock out while the show would break for a commercial.

Would be nice to see them get a member of Zep to appear.

  12. I voted for overpriced and $51-100. I only went to two shows in 2010 and expect to go to less in 2011. Have just lost interest in the live music experience. I've seen most if not all of my favorites during their heyday - Alice Cooper, Tull, Zeppelin, Springsteen, McCartney and a bunch of others.

  13. I recently received the The Beatles in Mono box set as a gift. Mono, stereo, it doesn't make a difference, The Beatles were on a different level than every other band.

Thanks for posting those pics. I need to go back and look at them all.

    Added note: awesome photos.

  14. I probably won't, but I've been toying with the idea of selling my LP's. I do listen to them occasionally. For the amount of room they take up, it's almost not worth it.

Many years ago I started cutting out music related newspaper articles, obits, concert and record reviews and inserting them into an appropriate LP for safekeeping. How many out there can say they have the newspaper obit of Ronnie Lane? I need to get a life, maybe I'll join the Steve Hoffman music forum.

  15. I haven't been around much lately. Recently received some unfortunate news about a loved one. I'm very worried and concerned. That makes two family member who are currently facing serious medical conditions.
