  1. I think you will love this one, I know I do.

BTW, there's a recording circulating out there of a live Ryan Adams show where he's backed by Gillian and David Rawlings where they're referred to as "The Esquires". If I'm not mistaken it was recorded at the Exit Inn in Nashville. Several of the tunes are from Time (The Revelator). You may wanna check the Ryan Adams Archive site in order to track down a copy.

Also, Gillian will be one of many artists featured on an upcoming episode of Austin City Limits when they broadcast highlights of the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival which is held annually (for free) in San Francisco. It is scheduled to air this weekend but you may wanna check your local PBS listings for the airtime in your area.

    Thanks, I'll check it out.

And yeah, I discovered Gillian and David Rawlings through Heartbreaker, and then heard her some more from the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack.

They seem to have musical chemistry like very few I've ever heard.

  2. Um, Neil Young is the shit, basically.

I only own After The Goldrush and On The Beach (my current favorite) and I absolutely adore them. I need more of the catalog, pronto.

"Helpless", although from his CSNY days, which I'm typically not a big fan of, is one of my favorite songs ever; not just but Neil.

  3. I did a few finds today when I went to a local record store. I've seen Jahfin mention The Long Ryders several times, and now when I stumbled upon them I had to check 'em out. Good Stuff!

    All vinyls:

Kaleidoscope - Side Trips (classic psych/folk album with David Lindley. This is a re-release by Edsel, the original album is very rare)

Tom Verlaine - s/t (fantastic debut!)

Richard Lloyd - Alchemy (another ex-Television member's debut, great album)

From all the vinyl I've seen you've purchased, I'm pretty damn jealous.

I would start a vinyl collection of my own, seeing as they're just flat-out cooler than CD's, but I don't own a player and the only convenient form for me is through CD. :(

I may start getting vinyl of some of my favorite albums though, even if I already have them on CD. :)

  4. I think so too. Sky Blue Sky is proof positive that Wilco don't need to be highly experimental every time out just to be worthy of notice. Sometimes all a body needs is some good ol' solid rock n' roll and I think they more than delivered that with this record.

Agreed. I don't see all the flack that SBS is getting, as I think it, in a way, it got Jeff Tweedy to come back to earth a little bit. While I liked some tracks off it, A Ghost Is Born was too experimental, lacking that perfect balance that Yankee Hotel Foxtort had.

SBS isn't really revolutionary or anything, but it's a solid record.

  5. I'm not a big fan, but they sound great every once in a while. I like Murmur okay and Automatic For the People has flashes of brilliance.

That's all I've heard from them, minus the singles.

  6. The Stones fucking ruled, but I can only listen to them in small doses. I think it's Jagger.

If they would've, liked died in 1978 they would've been flawless.

All joking aside, of course, but I haven't really gave a shit about their material of the last, um, 30 years or so. But it's nice to see them still touring and recording and shit, I guess. At least they're out promoting new albums while they tour, unlike The Eagles who've been doing it for like 15 years until they released that recent turd of an album.
