  1. Maybe one exception would be the Allman brothers, who I hear are still excellent and have no trouble selling out shows. They lost members due to tragic deaths, and had the guts to let Dickie Betts go when he wasn't up their standards. If Greg Allman does not recover enough from his current health issues to tour, this would leave a major question mark, though?
  2. I've never seen Jefferson Starship, but am a big Airplane and Hot Tuna fan. Last I heard, Paul Kantner is still playing with them, but does not spend the entire show on stage. He has been getting trouble using the Airplane / Starship name, since it's mostly not the original members. Marty Balin occasionally tours with them, but often is a no show at concerts he is on the bill for. I think they both have health issues. David Frieberg tours with them, but does not play bass anymore. Other members are castoffs from other bands, I hear the two woman singers are young and pretty decent. They supposedly do a mix of Starship and Airplane, which is weird to me, because of the difference in music style. I'll recommend Hot Tuna instead, who still tour and have been playing acoustic or electric shows - mostly old time blues and psychedelic stuff. Original members Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady, who still is amazing. Hope this helped!
  3. Something really freaky happened to me yesterday, maybe it's funny - although it wasn't at the time for me: I was sweeping patio, when I saw a clump of feathers under the picnic table. We feed the birds and get alot of cats dining in our yard on them - so this isn't so unusual to find. But amongst the feathers, I saw what I thought to be two pink salamanders curled up. How wonderful, I thought, to have these unusual creatures in our own yard, nesting in the feathers. Should I disturb them? Why not, my inner child begged - so I got on my knees and went to gently pick up one my little visitors. That's when it dawned on me that they were not cuddly salamanders, but instead the mangled feet of the unfortunate bird. By then the vomit had already hit my nostrils, and tears quickly burned my eyes. I staggered around the patio, blinded and gasping for air, and got tangled up amongst the garden tools. After I recovered, I did laugh at my own foolishness - it must have been quite the sight... Hope this helped!
  4. His dad really sucked - hope he didn't get flowers for Mother's Day!
  5. They should have Jim's grave more isolated from other peoples graves. It seems highly disrespectful the things fans are doing there. Think of the people visiting their lost loved ones.
  6. It's an old Fender ad that I remember from Guitar Player magazine. Someone posted a link to a bass player forum that had it - that's where I was able to save it from. As far as this topic, I am not a fan of horse racing in it's current form - but do live near stables that are nice to visit and watch the horses being trained or frolic on their own.
  7. He was truley one of the greats - what a tragic ending!
  8. O.K. - just a thought, that a horses natural desire to run could be worked into a training program for racing without a jockey. Apparantly not.
  9. As I understand it, horses have evolved for running and are competitive against each other naturally - especially at a young age. Do they really need jockeys to steer or whip them in order to run a race? Jockeys are relatively light, but must put pressure and imbalance on the horses legs. If greyhounds can race uncumbered, why not horses?
  10. We were having dinner at a nightclub grill last night, and this jackass DJ put on "Riders of the Storm" mixed with that Blondie "man from mars who eats guitars" song. I don't know if this was his invention or something that is commercially available - but either way, there should be strict laws to protect against this sort of indecency???
  11. I've never tried cooking brisket, but had it a few times and really enjoyed it!
  12. I like their version of "Who do you Love", but not "Gloria". Actually, I don't like any songs that have spelling lessons in them, except "Mannish Boy Blues".
  13. How about "Crawling King Snake" - that has an old fashioned blues feel to it?
  14. As it seems that I'm this forum's official Hot Tuna promoter, here's some related information to an above post from MSG: 1- Little Feat is touring with Hot Tuna for several shows this spring. (Colorado and Florida) 2- Jorma Kaukonen is the guy who provides the middle finger and "here's your freebird" response to hecklers who request the song at their shows. Jack Casady's fingers are too valuable to be used this way.
  15. I caught the Tribute tour back in the late 80's, and thought they were excellent. The whole place was up and dancing, or some imitation of dancing, and this was in New York! I've never heard a bad southern band, love the guitar army and lots of jamming!!!
  16. Isn't the Robert Randolph Band basically a cover band that does funky renditions of 60's + 70's songs? I'm seeing them in a few months, and looking forward to it - but this was my impression...
  17. There have been some great "power trios", Rush is definitely one of them. Also ZZ Top, SRV Double Trouble, Mountain, Hot Tuna, ELP... Zep was kinda, too?
  18. I saw the Micheal Jackson "Captain Emo" in 3D, many years ago. It was very kiddy-ish, but some objects did seem to extend from the screen to right up to your face. They had "Beowolf" in 3D recently, that was probably pretty cool...
  19. The B-52s just put out a new album, anyone hear it yet?
  20. Going back a few posts on this thread, Virginia mentioned something called "Hawiian rolls". I didn't know what these were, but just saw some in the deli area of the supermarket. Normally, I don't buy already cooked dinner rolls - but these were kinda awesome. A sweet aftertaste, 4 for a buck!
  21. I would say windy as all hell lately, but if it was this windy in hell, the flames would all be extinguished! Garbage cans and tree branches all over the place. My neighbor's shed got lifted over a 6 foot fence and landed in another yard. I live near the ocean in NY, but wouldn't dare go down to the beach now...
  22. A well made soup can certainly be fit for a meal, and a treat for guests who normally only eat the canned stuff - but it can be more work than a regular meal. My grandfather made such great Manhattan clam chowder, but the recipe was never passed on. Here's how I make Chicken Marsala, though: * Start cooking items #1, 2, and 3 at the same time, and #4 a little later, if able to. 1- Saute 1 coarsely chopped Vidallia onion in a few spoons of olive oil, add a package of sliced white mushrooms after awhile, and a bunch of finely chopped green onions, last. Splash in a few spoons of Marsala cooking wine, once the onions are soft, stir and simmer until slightly browned. Add equal parts chicken stock (canned is fine), Marsala wine (yes, more), and water from the boiled carrots (#2, below). Raise heat slightly, shake in some gravy flour (Wondra is good) to thicken slightly, and stir while simmering, for about 10 minutes. 2- Put a bag of baby peeled carrots in a pot of water, with a dash of salt, boil for a few minutes, then lower heat for about 20 minutes. 3- Mix a cup of flour and a few teaspoons of chopped Marjoram leaves, garlic powder, salt, and pepper on a plate. Dip thinly sliced (or pounded) boneless chicken cutlets in the flour mix, and fry in cooking oil until slightly browned on both sides. Put in covered casserole dish right after cooking, to keep warm. 4- Boil favorite pasta. I like using egg noodles or those little shell shaped ones. Drain and put in another covered casserole dish. Add a few slices of butter on top. 5- Pour onion/mushroom gravy over the chicken in the casserole dish. The carrots can also be added, or served seperately.
  23. Hmmmm... Moose turd pie, or the Milk cake - which to try? They both sound so tempting! There's no booze in the turd pie - yet it doesn't require refrigeration, and is rather simple to prepare.
  24. I think your stuffed peppers and tenderloin ingredients got switched when you first posted them, but it's corrected now? Looks goooood! I never blanched peppers, the skin doesn't bother me, and they hold together better. I use Mozzarella cheese, and drizzle olive oil over everything. Same as I do for horse meat, actually...
  25. Stuffed peppers are one of my latest specialties, but I got beat to posting the recipe. Not sure of those ingredients, though? Here's a tip for ribs that are guaranteed to fall off the bone - slow bake them in the oven about 2 hours at 200 degrees F, before putting on the grill. Don't boil them. I usually rub some apple cider vinegar and Emeril's southwest seasoning on them first, lay them meat side up, then cover with tin foil. For the sauce, mix ketchup, worchester sauce, orange juice, honey, and brown sugar. Keep the fire on the grill low, also. Be careful flipping them once they're on the grill, or you get shredded pork!
