  1. I won't be here for just one week :) I want to visit my friend.

No! :'( you should find at least a little time for posting!

Ah, a week is certainly bearable. Especially if you'll be off having fun. :)

And I'm sure I'll find some time, haha. I don't really post that much anyways, so it shouldn't be too much of a change.

  2. :) I'm fine, thank you! but soon I'll leave the board again ):

Ah, why's that? More studies? I was beginning to wonder if you'd ever come back.

School starts for me soon, and apparently this year is going to be a pretty heavy work load. So. I probably won't be around much either.

  3. I took these while I was "feeling" the music... (see other random thread I started)...

    Aw Bustle, you're a cutie! :)

It's a Tele. You can tell by the shape of the headstock:

Also, the edge is rather square, whereas strats are much more rounded in that aspect.

And I spy a jack on the edge as well, as opposed to a jack on the front of the guitar.

Amazing, the details you notice when you have experience.

  4. You don't compliment someone by mentioning yourself. That sort of defeats the purpose. You could have said something about the photos without AGAIN making it about you in the process.

I really don't think it's that much of a problem.

I know a lot of people have it out for spats or whatever, but come on...it's not like he was like "Cool picture, this is why I'm better :blahblah: "

I'll admit, it was more of a comment than a compliment, but since when was there anything wrong with that?

  5. Maureen, you are quite the beauty. B)

Eviljane, you are pretty too! Sweet bench. I have lots of family in Akron.

By the way, you look A LOT like Kissandra, do you know her? I haven't seen her online in quite a while...

The beauties are out today! :o:D

Here comes a big bad ugly troll!

Ricky smiles! :cheer::P I like it.

  6. *Long, drawn out gasp*

    I LOVE BROWNIES.

I remember that brownie thread on the old forum...the one poll that asked if brownies were cake or cookie. Brownies are neither: they are brownies, and they deserve their own category. :D

Here's a picture, Inga. They are DELICIOUS, trust me. Especially for a chocolate lover like you. :P

  7. Not to generalize but quite a few clerks in indie stores come across as "pompous". In case you haven't seen it (or read the book by renown author Nick Hornby) I suggest checking out the movie High Infidelity which does an outstanding job of capturing the typical indie record store feel.

I'll try and check it out, thanks. :D

You need to get beyond the fact that record store clerks are going to ask you for help because in most instances that's simply not the case. Plus, you seem to be sending mixed signals. On the one hand you're complaining that they won't ask you for help, on the other you say, "I'm pretty much never looking for something specific, especially when I go into the indie store." So, why are you complaining? It sounds to me like you just aren't accustomed to the indie record store shopping experience and are more familiar with shopping in big box stores. Speaking just for myself, I much prefer the indie store shopping experience. I'll talk a pompous, yet knowledgeable clerk over a clueless fuck who has to look everything up on the computer any day of the week.

I agree with you completely. I grew up going into the big box stores; I've only ventured into our single indie store in the past year or so. So I am very used to the "big box" approach, and I'm not afraid to agree that that's probably my deal.

  8. If you're used to shopping in the big box stores where folks are trained to ask you for help and that's what you're accustomed to, I wouldn't expect someone at an indie store to ask you for assistance. In fact, I can't think of an instance right off hand where one of them ever asked me for help. If I'm looking for something specific and I'm not there to just browse I ask the person behind the counter for help, I wouldn't ever expect them to ask me. Again, this isn't a big box. As for the store being empty, there's a very good reason for that, indies are going out of business at an alarming rate for a variety of reasons. I also don't know about the employees being "lazy" just because they don't ask if they can help you. In an indie store you have to be proactive and ask them for assistance.

I guess I'm used to people asking if I need help, sure, but I do think the people at my indie shop are not too awesome. Maybe it's just me, but they always come off as pompous whenever I'm in there.

Again, if you're looking for something specific you're better off to ask the clerk for help rather than sifting through an endless array of vinyl. Personally, I love browsing but if I'm in a hurry I either call ahead or ask for help as soon as I enter the store.

I'm pretty much never looking for something specific, especially when I go into the indie store. 90% of the time I buy music it's something I just happen to spot.

And personally...indie store or not, I expect music to be organized. That really puts me off. I like to check and see what they have by my favorite artists, but in their vinyl section, it's impossible for both me and the workers to make any sense of where anything would be. And I'm not going to pester a worker and make them find every artist I'm looking for. If I did ask, I'm sure I'd get a "Oh, you'll just have to dig around a bit."

Anyways, whenever I am looking for something specific, it's something brand new. And whenever I buy something brand new, I almost always preorder/order online, and I'm fine with that. Just means this small guy in particular gets less of my business.

  9. I guess it's different in every town but it's been my experience that prices are also low at indie stores especially if it's something that just came out that week and/or if it's a local artist. As for your clerk being a "prick", yeah, you may sometimes run into that at independent stores but in my opinion it beats the shit out of the "help" at the big box stores who have to look everything up on a computer to be able to assist you (that is, if you can even find someone to help you to start with). I remember once mentioning Keith Richards to a wet behind the ears cashier at a Circuit City who said they didn't know who Keith Richards was. I didn't hesitate to laugh in their fuckin' face. How in the hell do you get a job in the music department if you don't know who in the hell Keith Richards is?

Yeah, that sounds good...I think my indie store just sucks. All they do is sit behind the counter, nobody ever asks if I need help or anything, and the place is almost always empty. The employees are knowledgeable, but lazy.

On top of that, the vinyl section is generous, but it's only organized by genre...no alphabetizing whatsoever! If you're looking for something specific in there, good luck! Vinyls are always a couple dollars more expensive there than on the internet, but if I find something I want I'll get it. Beats waiting for it to ship here.

  10. I mostly buy online. I haven't bought much music recently, and when I have, it was mostly vinyl...which is usually easiest to find online.

When I buy in town, Best Buy is the first place I usually check, unless it's something obscure, or if I'm looking specifically for vinyl. My local indie store jacks up the prices too much for me to buy there all the time, and in the end, that's all I really care about. My money. Sure, it's nice to know I'm supporting the small guy, but I'm in college! Plus, the chick that runs the indie store is kind of a prick.

If I happen to be in there and see something I like though, I'll buy it if I have the money. :)
