  3. Saw Robin Trower at the Catylist in Santa Cruz on the 11th. He played mostly stuff from thr first three albums as well as Victim of the Fury and Go My Way. Me and Pat rode our bicycles from the East Bay about 70 miles!
  4. Well hell yeah its JANIS! WTF? (But Ann Wilson and Stevie Nicks come to mind quickly!) No one mentioned Etta James, what a voice. Current favorite: LP L.P. Wasted (Theme from South of Nowhere)
  5. Gov't Mule! Sept 25, 26th at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco! Saw Allman Brothers in Oakland at the Fox May 12, 13th Allmans at Fox Oakland I just never get enough Warren Haynes!
  6. How about that live version from 6-23-77, totally awesome! Bonham is almost ablaze! I wonder how they kept his drum kit from spontanously combusting. And Jones slapping that bass, he's whats holding Page and Bonham together!
  7. Yeah, I was at that trainwreck on the 24th, the most dissapointing show I ever saw! Zeppelin was well over 45 min late, more like an hour and a half at least! Boy were they in a bad mood! Bonham had giant sunglasses (I guess to cover blackeyes) and Page and Jones just scowled through the whole thing. My memory (albeit damaged) sez Page skipped the solo in ALS! (Am I right? Anyone got the boot?) All in all it was just a taste of what was to come, poor Robert, so many of his songs since seem to be telling me to spend time with my kids while I can! Well Bob, I got the message. If I'm blasting the new Zep boot and someone needs help with homework, a ride to the store or their bike fixed I'm there immeadiately!!!!!
  8. Hot Mule show last night! 11.21.2008 The Fillmore Theater San Francisco, CA Set 1 Trane-> Eternity's Breath-> St. Stephen Jam Banks Of The Deep End Rocking Horse Monkey Hill She Said, She Said-> Tomorrow Never Knows Trying Not To Fall Dear Prudence with Davy Knowles Set 2 War Pigs (Danny Louis on Guitar) When The Music's Over Drums About To Rage Unring The Bell Get Up, Stand Up tease How Many More Years Higher Ground tease Blind Man In The Dark Encore All Along The Watchtower with Jeff Coffin Goin' Out West with Jeff Coffin and Eric McFadden Nice Saint Stephen jam, they played the song (minus vocals) three times through, first slower than the Dead, next faster and finally at a dizzing double time! An extra long spaced-out jam in Rocking Horse set the tone for the rest of the night. Tomorrow Never Knows extended in weirdness and the Dear Prudence was off the psychedelic feedback scale! The second set started with a long and pretty faithful-to-the-original crowd pleasin' heavy metal crunch-off, everyone "sang" along. Then came a very elongated When the Music's Over, the Lizard King would have been proud. The reggae flavored protest song Unring the Bell morphed into a Get Up, Stand Up jam that had the crowd swaying and sweating. New bass player Jorgen Carlsson proved his worth with his John Paul Jones like heavy foundation in How Many More Years (Times). Encores included a "lounge-jazz" version of Dylan's classic All Along the Watchtower and Tom Waits' Goin' Out West featuring the sax player from the Flecktones who had just finished playing across the street at Yoshi's in Japantown. I had a great time, got home by 2:30 and I'm going back for the last show of the tour tonite.
  9. Gov't Mule Tonite! Last night rocked, it was kinda spacy and extended but not as hard rock as usual. Set list posted in the Gov't Mule thread.
  10. Hey Mr.Wizard! Good to see ya back! The Chef PS Thanks to you I just found out my buddy (of 30+years) is a huge Free fan. I never even knew! He said he liked Free before he liked Zep. He's comming over tonite to watch that video again! Thanks man!
  11. Tomorrow night I'm taking the family to see Joan Osborne in SF. She's playing with her "Relish" band.
  12. L.P.'s "Suburban Sprawl and Alcohol" Ah, L.P. looks like Page sounds like Plant. Is that Alaina Beaton (the Tramps) sitting in the background?
  13. Mule played Red Rocks during the Democratic convention, I just listened to the bootleg last night. Here's the set: Set 1 (cd1) Soulshine 1st Verse and Chorus Gospel Intro 10:12 Larger Than Life 06:22 Mercy On The Criminal 07:06 Don't Step On The Grass Sam 08:18 Time To Confess 08:50 Rocking Horse 09:00 Temporary Saint 05:54 Dear Prudence (w/ Brendan Bayliss) 08:58 War Pigs 07:54 TT = 72:37 Set 2 (cd2) Beautifully Broken 07:04 When The Music's Over (pt1) 12:33 When The Music's Over (pt2) 04:16 He Ain't Give You None 08:45 For What It's Worth 07:07 Brighter Days 07:41 Drums 04:40 Unring The Bell Get Up, Stand Up Tease 09:58 Brand New Angel 09:01 TT=71:08 Encore: (cd3) Had To Cry Today 08:57 Morning Dew 11:56 TT = 20:53
  14. L.P. (Lyrical Perfectionist!) Great voice! Get Wasted with L.P.
  15. Lynyrd Skynyrd is making their new albun with John 5! He of Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson? These truely are "The End Times". New skynyrd with John 5
  16. Just listened to Jimi Hendrix at the K.B Hallen, in Copenhagen, Denmark on September 3, 1970. What a great concert, the best of the last Hendrix tour! Here we have Jimi on a good night with all equipment functioning up to Jimi's impossable standards. He's in a good mood, relaxed and in TOTAL control of his guitar. Notice the double leads in Machine Gun (best version ever?). How does he do that? He's only holding ONE guitar!!! This is a new version, a merge of three (secong quality) audience tapes and sounds better and is more complete than any other version I've heard. Has anyone else heard this show?
  17. But why is the Mule considered a "jam" band? I love Gov't Mule, the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers but I hate "jam" bands. Phish, Zero, Widespread Panic, Leftover Salmon, etc. not one of them does anything for me. The whole "scene" just turns me off, I guess the music at a Grateful Dead show was good enough for me to be able to ignore all that pseudo-hippie stupidity. (Veggie burrito kind rainbow brother?)
  18. Gov't Mule is comming to the Fillmore in San Francisco Nov. 21-22! I have tix to both shows. Met Warren there last year, very nice regular guy!
  19. Brain Salad Surgery is an all time classic rock album and should be heard by all rock fans, it's the peak of ELP's career. Too bad the band was so anti-bootlegging, there's prescious little live stuff available from their finest years (72-74).
  20. Good you are getting out of there BUT... it's number 333! What would Jimmy say?!?
  21. Argggggg.... more Zep=devil worship crap. Maybe we should start another thread about backmasking!! @#$%^&*!!!!
  22. Just saw Janis form the Dick Cavett show. Wow is all I can say. So much power and passion.
  23. Yeah, all this free music, I can't complain about a few rules. I think Porcupine Tree is now added to the list, in many cases this is the policy of the management of the bands and not the band themselves. Then there's Fripp!
  24. King Crimson Banned from Dime! No more free bootlegs, Fripp had previously banned soundboard recordings from being traded but now it's all King Crimson. Well it was great while it lasted and you can still BUY(!) complete concerts at his official website, there are even a few free downloads too! http://www.king-crimson.com/ NOTICE OF INFRINGEMENT AND DECLARATION TO: .. btadm@..
