  1. Interesting! I tried some of my dad's scotch - supposedly it was a good one - and I didn't like it very much, but I would down Gentleman Jack with regularity if, you know, it wasn't so hard on the liver, lol. But yep, it's all down to personal taste...if you know what you like, you know what you like, and there's nothing wrong with that.
  2. The fact that a friend who I haven't talked to much since 8th grade (we didn't get along too well, despite hanging out with the same people) and I just reunited over a discussion on Facebook about the superiority of Jack Daniels.
  3. OMG, that's awesome, Mandy!!! High frickin' five!!!! I was wondering what the stories/poems were for! That's totally cool that you'll get to teach the grade you want, too. Way to go! Have fun with To Kill a Mockingbird...I always liked that one, myself.
  4. Wait, you want more wind? Well, ok, have all you want in that case!
  5. Old Crow Medicine Show - Caroline Can I just say how much I farkin' LOVE the Outlaw Country station on XM? I think I listen to it even more than the Classic Vinyl channel.
  6. It ain't bad! I'm too lazy to look up the temperature, but it was nice enough for short sleeves around noon today. It was sweatshirt weather in the afternoon, especially at my school, which is always like 10 degrees cooler than everywhere else, but I certainly can't complain about that. The best part is, it's not WINDY here!! I spent last week in Desert Hot Springs, which is near Palm Springs, but unlike Palm Springs, which is sheltered from the wind because it's kinda nestled at the feet of some mountains, DHS is right out in the middle of the pass, and the wind absolutely screams through there sometimes (like last weekend). There aren't a bunch of windmills out there for nothing!
  7. Speaking of pictures of old-school guitars, I found a really interesting book in my school's library called Southern Exposure: the Story of Southern Music in Pictures and Words by Richard Carlin that's basically a collection of pre-war photographs of people playing instruments, including some famous musicians like Muddy Waters. What makes it interesting, though, is the commentary that goes along with the photos. Each text block is short and sweet, but it gives you an insight into the social relations and cultural landscape of the time just by analyzing the kinds of instruments the people are playing, what they're wearing, and where the picture was taken. Good stuff. And don't let Mr. Ethnomusicologist on Amazon stop you from taking a look at it - sure it's not doctoral thesis material, but for the average Joe like me, I thought it offered plenty of insight. Lol, first pic I could find that wasn't of a guy. I mean, a hot one.
  8. Copperhead Road - Steve Earle (Steve Earle, won't you write a song for meee? <-- that's a different song, heh)
  9. Today I am happy to be alive! Not to be dramatic or anything, but jeez, I drove in the WORST fog I've ever been in at 1 am this morning on a kind of scary road. There're a bunch of bends in it, so I had to 10 mph in what is usually a 50 mph zone so I could concentrate really hard on the lane markers to make sure I wasn't still going straight when the road took one of its little jogs. Not fun.
  10. Whoa, me neither! Will definitely be saving my money from now until the 31st.
  11. ^^ Bob Wills is the man! Clutch - "Electric Worry" Weirdest band I've ever heard, but you definitely can't say it's just the same ol' blues rock stuff.
  12. Wanted Dead or Alive - Bon Jovi I love that song. I'm not a Bon Jovi fan at all, but that's still a damn good song.
  13. All right! Sounds like a party! And "rock on" to whoever said they were seeing Lynyrd Skynyrd - I had a blast when I saw them last July; hope you have one, too! You know what? Forget Coachella. I'm graduating college in June, and dammit, I want to celebrate. Therefore, I'm thinking of flying myself to Kentucky (yes, KY - there's a logical reason, I swear) and seeing Jamey Johnson in June instead. Yeah, it'll cost more than Coachella would've, but it's that much more worth it to me. I don't know what it is about that guy, but I've been wearing out his CD...something just clicked. The Black Keys, who I really wanted to see there, come here all the time, so it wasn't a life or death situation to start with, really. Although it is kind of hard to believe I'm trading Macca for some country guy... On the other hand, this isn't 1964, and none of the rest of the Beatles will be there, so I just can't get into that as much as I'd like to. Yeah, I'm in crazy-land, but it's fun here.
  14. Cool! I wouldn't mind seeing Dierks Bentley sometime...he has pretty good songs. I'm not so big on Keith Urban (no offense), but that sounds like a good time, you guys! (aww, and Charlottesville - I miss C-ville! Good times last summer, and I can't thank you enough for the recommendations, Virginia!) I REALLY want to see Jamey Johnson, but apparently he hates the West Coast, because he's playing everywhere (including New Jersey, of all places!) but here. Heck, I'd drive to Nevada or Arizona if he was playing there, but the closest show is in east Texas, darn it.
  15. Ok, this is cool - I might be taking guitar lessons from a guy who's played with B.B. King and Charlie Daniels!! Hopefully he's got some openings.
  16. So tell me...should I go see the Derek Trucks Band in April? And why is Coachella SOOO expensive? 100 bucks for one day?!?! I know it's Paul McCartney and all, but damn! I'm not a walking bank here!
  17. That Lonesome Song - Jamey Johnson If you like Waylon Jennings, Hank Jr., or George Jones, puh-lease do yourself a favor and buy this album!!!
  18. Rock on! I live for driving with the windows open! (whilst blaring some Zep, of course) Has anybody here ever tried mezcal? Not mescaline, lol, but mezcal - it's a kind of alcohol that's pretty similar to tequila. Whereas tequila is specifically made from the blue agave, mezcal comes from any other kind of agave. Good stuff!! It's kind of like scotch, except it actually tastes good (haha, sorry, I'm not a scotch fan). Kinda smoky, kinda brandy-ish... definitely try some if you get the chance. That made me REALLY happy today, lol!
  19. ^ I really need to read A Game of Thrones again...I remember being not as entirely satisfied with it as I expected to be, but now I can't think why. It's far from bad, though - I did like the characters, and I liked the realistic political intrigue, but there was just something that kept it from going on my list of favorite fantasy works. Me too! Except I bought it yesterday. I like the pseudo-academic style it has with the notes from Dumbledore and the "translation" by Hermione. Fun for English majors!
  20. All right! Happy birthday to a fellow December baby. We are troublemakers, aren't we?
  21. Maybe it's one of those head trip things like playing Dark Side of the Moon to The Wizard of Oz...only noisier. As for me...every girl's crazy 'bout a SHARP DRESSED MAN!
  22. Mine is to eat more chocolate. I'm never going to lose any weight, so I might as well enjoy being a fat-ass!
  23. We now have chili pepper lights up around the window, hehe! (on a steek)
