  1. Fables remains my favorite even though I must admit the Lifes Rich Pageant reissue this past summer made me look at that record in a different light. I never disliked it, it's just that the reissue (just like the ones for Murmur, Reckoning and Fables before it) took me right back to when I heard them for the very first time. I was hooked from the very first moment I heard "Laughing" on WQDR out of Raleigh (now a country station) back when "album rock" actually meant that. From there I went out and purchased Murmur and Chronic Town and bought each new record as it came out. Even though they were playing all around back in those days, I never saw them in concert until 1986.

Back to Lifes Rich Pageant, it definitely had a much fuller sound and pushed Berry's drums and Stipe's vocals to the forefront (that still didn't make it any easier to understand what in the fuck he was singing about). I think it also truly captured what R.E.M. sounded like live for the first time since Chronic Town. I can understand people jumping ship for various reasons over the years but for whatever reason, I hung on until the very end and I'm so very glad I did. Even though I liked Collapse Into Now, it's been a very long time since the announcement of a new R.E.M. record got me excited. The last one would probably be New Adventures In Hi-Fi. On the other hand, they always brought it live, something I believe that was always their true strength. That's perhaps what I will miss most. Sure, the anticipation of a new album is something I'm going to miss but the sheer excitement and the adrenaline rush of a live concert was were it was at for me. Especially some of those early concerts and even right up until the Green World tour where I felt like I was being transported. Those were as close to a "religious" experience that I've ever had. No other band has done that for me and I very seriously doubt they ever will.

  2. April 20th

1977 - Led Zeppelin-Cincinnati, OH. US/Riverfront Coliseum - A fan is pushed over by some rowdy members of the audience on the 3rd floor of the venue, lands in the streets, gets run over, and died.

News report: Zeppelin fans cause 2nd Cincy riot

For the second time in three days police had to battle fans of the British rock group "Led Zeppelin," but police doubled their manpower and kept trouble at a minimum here yesterday.

An 18-year-old Dayton fan plunged 20 feet to a concrete ramp while trying to scale a wall, police said. Stanley Blair was reported in fair condition at Cincinnati hospital. Asst City Manager Henry Sandman told the Cincinnati City Council that 80 police officers, paid for by the Cincinnati Coliseum, will be used hereafter to prevent outbreaks of trouble. 4. So today I acquired 12 new BFF (best friends for the next five days) and the County of Riverside Judicial System will be hosting my birthday.

I should be happy and privlidged to be doing my civic duty. NOT! But it sure puts a kink in manageing your personal life. Now I will go into work very early to get my timely things taken care of before heading off to the courthouse. At least I get closer parking now. My employer does not pay for jury duty and the county pays some pretty cheap wages for serving. I was the last juror sent to the jury box before the counsels approved the seated jurors. Dang.

 I'm not laughing at you..... really......I just thought I heard the dog sneeze..........

Remember you get to see Joe Bonamassa in Feb, and i don't.;)

  5. Whole Lotta Love: Minor League team to wear Led Zeppelin jerseys Thursday

Wed Jun 16,2010 4:00 PM ET By Rick Chandler

To me, outfitting your minor league baseball team with jerseys that depict a crashing zeppelin doesn't exactly send an inspiring message. But it's only for one night, and hey, it's Led Zeppelin. It's never a bad night to honor Robert Plant, John Bonham and the boys, as the West Michigan Whitecaps will prove on Thursday with Led Zeppelin Night. The Whitecaps, of the Class-A Midwest League, will wear the jersey depicted above when they take on the Lake County Captains at 7 p.m. Post-Game concert by Led Zeppelin ... cover band, Oracle. Hey, I hear they're good. Also, actual Led Zeppelin songs to be played all night on the loudspeakers. If you don't end up dazed and confused, you weren't there.

Anyway, it should draw a different sort of crowd than Star Wars Night.

  6. Cincinnati's Riverfront Coliseum, now known as US Bank Arena.

Melee at Led Zeppelin Concert April 19, 1977

News Report: Zeppelin Melee CINCINNATI (UPI) — Police reported today about 70 persons were arrested Tuesday night m a melee caused by would-be gate-crashers at a Led Zeppelin rock concert. Several windows were broken and several doors smashed at Riverfront Coliseum, where several hundred persons without tickets milled about, hoping to get into the already sold-out concert. Several persons were hit by rocks and bottles, but no serious injuries were reported.

Inside the coliseum, the concert went on as scheduled. (The Journal, April 1977)

Lots and lots of good and bad memories in that building. Thanks for posting 'BUCK'EYE' DOC' B)

  8. The holiday is meaningless. No one really "gets it". It's just an excuse for some fireworks.

If Americans really understood and appreciated the significance of the events behind this holiday, they certainly wouldn't allow the bullshit that is happening to this country now.

There is no independence. We are just becoming an incompetent, freedomless, nanny state.

If only the founding fathers could see us now.

Speak for yourself. Ever heard the term "In my opinion?"
