  1. Nice find PlanetPage!

No mention of Taurus...but the line "Vanilla Fudge appeared as musical imposters" caught my eye. ;)

...Thozil that is the highlight of this magnificient review all in honour of Page and his Driving Force...there is no way anyone could follow that...

here is the video that connects with this, at 4:23 approx. mark, Mark Stein Vanilla Fudge discussed this historic show...

...this confirmation, beyond reasonable doubt, (post review) moves the Las Vegas Timeline slightly...they would have to pass Vegas, perhaps they stopped by briefly..

  2. Salt Lake City Review July 30th, 1969...LZ/Terrace Ballroom with Vanilla Fudge... Coutesy: J. Marriott Library Staff

...This review also answers question posed to Miss Pamela/I am with the Band Entry for July 31st, 1969 ...Jimmy Page was indeed arriving from Salt Lake City - Ms. Pamela was unaware of where LZ was arriving from July 31st, 1969 her entry..."Jimmy Page is coming to town today..."

  3. :bravo:

Every now and then this forum reaches it's full potential, and how appropriate that it do so today. Collaboration is the key!

...SAJ, it is truly special to see all the fans gather together to celebrate with Jimmy his music, his passion, his legacy...it is rare that such incomparable artist, comes along and graces this world..it happens once in a while...not all the time..I feel fortunate that it happened in my lifetime...he contributed much to my life for what I understood to be...

  4. Well, we've since come to find out it's actually Orly Airport in Paris, not Montreal. See post #588 of this thread:

SAJ, and Fans, I very sincerely indebted to Legendary Photographer Christian Rose from Paris, who has confirmed these much cherrished photos of our Beloved Icon...here is his response this morning on eve of Evening in Paris...

"The two pictures were taken on the 19 June 1969 at Orly Airport .Page weared a jacket and a coat . The Home Ideal Magazine he hold was a joke , he had no interest in inside decoration . We try to ask to Page who is the guy beside him wednesday at the press conference."

(I have the back up confirmation)

...So, this is the reason for two different set of Paris Photographs. These two are from June 19, 1969 Paris Led Zeppelin Timeline..

  6. I don't think the photo's from Olympic either. They were at Olympic to record the first album - but the hair length of the group in the photo seems too long to be from Sept/Oct 68.

Then they didn't get back to Olympic until June 69.

I still think its from sometime between Feb 17th, 69 and Apr 23rd, 69 when they were in Europe.

The Lime Grove video does show the elevators...and they don't match...so it's not Lime Grove. (I have a screenshot but can't upload it for some reason...but you get a glimpse at 50s into the video)

...indeed, your expert knowledge in agreement with Olympic Studios response received today...here it is...

"in 1965 Olympic had moved to Barns in SW London

the control room not above the studio ( Like the old Carton Street studio )

the photo that you enclosed is not Olympic ,……. in the back ground there

is a lift , there were no lifts in the control room ( or any ware in the building at that time )"

New Olympic Studios 1966 British Pathe Film (posted before elsewhere in the forum as well)...Led Zeppelin Recorded here...about 5:00 mark...

39 Gerrard Street 30 October 1959 - First Rehearsal Space for Led Zeppelin...

"Mods aside, there were a number of jazz clubs in the area, by far the most famous of which is Ronnie Scott's. It originally opened on 30th October 1959 in the basement of 39 Gerrard Street, moving to its present, larger location at 47 Frith Street in 1965. The original club continued to exist, known as 'The Old Place', as a 'proving ground' for new talent until its lease expired during 1967."

    Edited for relevancy/clarity...

  7. Dominic Tarlé had said the the elevator picture was taken at Zeppelin's first rehearsal. I tend to doubt that.

...Highly likely, the private facility Olympic Studios ( perhaps LZ photographed upstairs/Control Room), Freelance Photographers regurlary visited Olympic Studios including the RollingStones... BBC would be off limit for Freelance photography...

here is detailed interior view article of Olympic Studios with Late Recording Engineer Keith Grant, 2012..

"The upstairs control room was a real pain,” explained Grant. "It was all valve equipment, and because of noise problems, we had to have everything insulated heavily, so it was like a permanent sauna up there. There were probably 200 valves or more in the room, and bodies, and you couldn't even put a fan through to the outside world because it would let sound out. You didn't keep cool up there!

Dominique Tarle Photography of Jimmy Page at Olympic Studio is well documented ofcourse...including JP Official Genesis Autobiography...

  8. Here it is:

    1969BBCPlayhouseTheatre.jpg

    BBC session, Playhouse Theatre, London

    A. March 3, 1969 recording session between 2pm and 6pm. 'Communication Breakdown', 'Dazed And Confused', 'You Shook Me' 'I Can't Quit You' including 'Nineteen Years Old'

    or

    B. June 27, 1969 rehearsal at 7pm; recording 8:45pm-10:15pm for 'Top Gear' (broadcast on August 10th 1969)

    --------------------

The details for the image below are unconfimed, but it seems to have been taken with days, weeks or months of the image above, as JPJ is wearing the same shirt. Elevators in the back ground suggests this may have been in a hotel lobby.

...SAJ, I will add one more slight possibility to ID This Photo, this article I posted in Forum articles, LZ 1 also, First Printing here MacNeill Press...

(the surrouding atmosphere of photo (front)/appears to be somewhat printing area/compositor typesetting

    2. So, where was MacNeill Press situated and can you describe the building?

2 Newhams Row, 175 Bermondsey Street, London SE1. (see photo, MacNeills was the white building about 50 yards down on the left hand side).

    newhams-row.png?w=300

The factory entrance was down Newhams Row on the left. As you went in we had a clocking-in machine on the right, stairs in front. The ground floor was the paper warehouse. The basement housed the letterpress machines that used to print and cut out the finished album sleeve shapes. We had Heidelberg, platens, cylinders and Miehle Vertical presses. On the 1st floor was the litho printing presses, which was where I worked. On the 2nd floor was the bindery, and the top floor was where the compositors were and where any hand finishing took place. Reception was over the road in a separate building with the offices.

Paul Gilbert Sleeve Printer (joined the Press as apprentice in 1972).... acknowledges Led Zeppelin arriving at the Printing Press for Houses of the Holy....

  9. Paul Gilbert worked at MacNeill Press Ltd in London in the heyday of vinyl albums, the early–mid 1970s.

...Once printed, the flat sheets went down to the letterpress to be cut and then up to the bindery to be folded and glued, where they were boxed up and sent out to the record companies Most of the finishing (folding and glueing) was done in house, but any covers that needed laminating were sent out to a place in Peckham..

    11. Tell me more about Led Zeppelin turning up…

I think it was one or two of the band with the usual hangers-on/flunky types. They turned up in a limo in the afternoon, they were all smashed!

    houses-of-the-holy-gatefold.png?w=627

There was some arty person too. They were supposed to sign off the Houses Of The Holy sleeve but they didn’t like the colour of the sky on the inner gatefold picture. So, we overprinted a 5th colour to make the sky darker as we couldn’t get it how they wanted with standard 4 colour process.

"Sometimes a member of the band used to turn up. I know Led Zeppelin did once, in a limo but it was far too dirty and noisy for them!"

  10. Going from memory, I believe it's Lionel Bart and that they are standing outside the Plaza Hotel in New York (February 1975).

...tks SAJ, your speedy answer shiny as Jimmy's scarf...and AEN, never seen this scarf before....

  11. SteveAJones: Richard Cole identified the man on the left as a friend of Jimmy's named Paul Reeves.

...and further to this, these two photos of Page..the Library, Bibliotech de Montreal now confirms only one photo of Jimmy/Charlotte seated at the airport in Photos Vedettes Magazine archive, not these two (so it stands, these two airport photos of Page/Paul Reeves Id's by Richard Cole, stands as Paris photos, photo credit to Christian Rose, Paris based photographer as discussed previously just few posts back)

...however, Photos Vedettes, has extended coverage of Led Zeppelin in Montreal, unfortunately, copyright is NOT permitted thus far...

Echos Vedettes has only the concert coverage with a standard Press/Promo Photo seen already widely, the magazine has deemed confirmed that No Copyright is permitted anyway whatsoever...

...NO COPYRIGHT permitted, this is their final decision, not even for the Text/article thus far...

sorry fans...I will not be able to post these, if there are any updates, I will share...

  12. Thank you for the update!

...SAJ and fans, Bibiliotech. de Montreal Library archives have confirmed that these photos are indeed published in their April 25, 1970 PHOTOS VEDETTES Magazine issue along with extended coverage of performance...Copyright Clearance is an unconfirmed issue at the moment...I will see what can I do...I have addressed this back to the reference staff...I will pursue this, but it may take time...

..Also, I think the reason Page is wearing boots/sneakers different shoes in two arrival photos, it is perhaps Jimmy returned to Montereal in few after the April 13th Performance, to shop the antiques...

here is Paris arrival photo in this link...

    https://www.pinterest.com/pin/312718767846602519/

...so this is indeed Dorval Airport, Montreal photos... I have submitted further ID...waiting..

  13. .... you are correct SAJ, no photos at the Market, but there appears to be a review of this shopping trip, including photos at the Airport, arrival of LZ in Echoes Vedettes Magazine...restricted copyright...

    The Original discussion...

    http://forums.ledzeppelin.com/index.php?/topic/308-zeppelin-mysteries-hosted-by-steve-a-jones/page-7

SAJ, quickly I will add that I have response from Libary, Echos Vedettes magainze only holds a French concert review with Press/Promotion Shot of LZ..with copyright restriction thus far...further, I am awaiting for Photos Vedettes Magazine, photos of Jimmy/Charlotte appeared in this publication...I shall see what holds in Photos Vedettes...I have sumbitted inquiry, awaiting follow up...
