  1. ...MSG - this sure is special...I can only imagine what it means to you and Mike being there in that special moment in time...all of you so lucky...

I still feel lucky to have been there for that special moment in time, PlanetPage....ridiculously so - just hearing Mike talk about it make my heart flutter. I've never taken for granted how fortunate I was...

  2. ...very welcome MSG; - here is another video of Mike Quashie - similar to the one your posted earlier (I think the link is gone in your original post) - here in this video

Mike Quashie/Report talk about Led Zeppelin and others...

Thanks for this video. Oh, I love to hear him talk about that LZ concert!

I think my link may be gone now because the NYT might not allow embedding of its videos. I edited it to put a direct link rather than embedding.

  3. ....Thank You Sam, Walter Walker, AEN27, and MSG for such wonderful and informative (never heard before) stories.....it is truly fascinating to hear from artists who had good fortune to be around the mighty Zep...

MSG, that video about Mike Quashie is really touching and warm beyond words.....Here is an article from New York Times: Mike Quashie recalls Zeppelin days and Jimmy Page donating guitar.....

....and Bonzo's Dog Band, they do have an autobiography, I wonder if there are further details, if anyone has read this book...

tks. AEN27 for that bit of excerpt...

    Bonzo Dog - Keynsham....

You're welcome, PlanetPage...and thanks again for this interesting thread. I found the video of Mike Quashie very touching and warm too. It was so lovely to hear about Mike's chance meeting and reunion with his dancer.

Thanks for the article about Jimmy donating a guitar for Mike - I think that was a wonderful thing for him to do...Jimmy has made other similar generous gestures but as he's very quiet about them, we rarely hear about them.

  4. ....It would be great to Honor the Musicians/Every Opening Band who shared Stage with Zeppelin, big or small....to hear their stories, their music, how they played with Zep, etc....

Here is one from Tonight's Entry from Jimmy Page This Day....

Larry Easter from Linn County, June 2005 - Led Zeppelin story:

Grande Ballroom, Detroit with Led Zeppelin, 18th January, 1969:

Cave Song - Linn County Band

Thank you for starting this thread, PlanetPage. Here is a story about Mike Quashie, the "King of Limbo" and fire dancer who performed at LZ's 1973 MSG show. I remember hearing that Jimmy came forth, decades later, and donated an autographed guitar to help defray some of the cost of Mike's medical care during his later years.

  5. I think she is the woman with Jimmy that is in the footage in this video at the 1:16 point.

    aen27

Could the woman be Janine Safer Swan Song Publicist? It looks like she is handing or showing something to jp.

I don't know what she looks like. She appears in one of the other pictures in this set where Jimmy is with Bonzo

I also thought Elton John at first.

I don't think it's the woman in the video with Jimmy...I remember her as being petite whereas Janine and the other woman I was thinking of who worked with the band were tall like the woman in this photo...both blondes, though.

  6. ^^^^^ My best guesstimation is 75. He is wearing the pair of jeans and scarf he wore a lot that year, his face is a bit fuller than it was after the 75 tour and isn't that Cameron Crowe to his left? Hmm...very intriguing. Thank you for posting that Sam. I have never seen the photo.

If that's Joe Walsh this could be Feb '75 when they attended a Linda Ronstadt concert in NJ.

If that's Cameron Crowe that also suggests '75 in NY.

I don't think it's Cameron...to my eyes this man looks a bit old to be Cameron (who was still a young teen in 1975).

  7. I think this is 1977 like the other pictures with Bonzo wearing the burgandy jacket, but I don't know who the other person is.

    392740_143324612447842_100003109131672_183347_166924985_n.jpg

I also think it's 1977 because Bonzo is wearing one of the tour robes from that year in this photo...so I'm thinking that this must have been taken after one of the shows. The woman looks familiar to me but I'm not sure of her name.

  8. Hi, Steve and everyone at this forum .)

i have a few mystery questions ( i apologize if they've been somewhere already)

fairly well-known photo of Jimmy with his father

    James Page & James Page

    x_63357848.jpg

but any photo of his mother or Jimmy with parents ?

and this one from The Richard Cole Collection

    x_d1397c65.jpg

Jimmy with his girlfriend Lynn Collins and Chris Dreja (with the camera) enjoying nature in Mill Valley, California, 1968

    any info about her?

    Tnx

    LM

Hi Ledy, although I don't know of any older photos of Jimmy with his mother, I have seen some recent (past year or so?) family photos of Jimmy and his mother but for privacy reasons I can't post them. I think his mother is beautiful - she looks very much like Jimmy (even down to the "smiling eyes") and appears to be very distinguished. Something about her appearance made me think that she raised Jimmy very well as far as manners and class. There is another old photo somewhere online of Scarlet and Jimmy's father (her grandfather) at Christmas, when she was a little girl.

If the Lynn Collins you mention here is the same one who Steven Tyler talks about in his autobiography he describes her as a gorgeous blonde and talks about how she left him for Jimmy. The young woman in your photo is lovely but her hair looks dark so I'm not sure if she's the same Lynn Collins. I can pull out Tyler's book and scan the passage if you're interested in reading it. I don't remember a photo, though.

  9. Interview with George in Ultimate Classic Rock about his new LZ book

    http://ultimateclass...-zeppelin-four/

    ...

    Thanks for posting, Kenog.

Just to say that the interview got a little garbled: "Black Country Woman" was not recorded at the LZIV sessions, so I don't mean to convey misinformation. Hopefully Led Zeppelin FAQ will offer lots of hard facts and imaginative insights for hardcores and newbies alike. It's in stores now, so enjoy!

Very nice interview! Most of my friends have purchased this book already and all the reviews I've heard from them have been great. They especially like the way that George has brought different perspectives and balance to the discussion of some of the more "controversial" myths surrounding the band. I've been telling my husband about this book since last year and I know that it will be one of my Christmas gifts from him - I look forward to reading it.

  10. By all accounts In Dallas and San Francisco a nervous Jimmy did not venture out and essentially kept to himself, seldom socializing with the other musicians but on Sun, Dec 4 1984 he checked into the Sunset Marquis (registering as "James McGregor") upon arrival from San Francisco and placed a call to Richard Cole (residing in Hollywood). They reunited at the Rainbow Bar & Grill prior to the first of two LA Forum gigs the next night and Richard was in attendance for the show. Given Phil Carlo is wearing his ARMS tour pass this was probably taken backstage at one of the two LA Forum concers as you suggested. Here's a shot of Richard & Jimmy seated at the Rainbow allegedly taken after one of those same two LA Forum concerts, and almost certainly on the same date as your photo:

As you can see Jimmy is wearing his "butterfly jacket" whereas in first set of shots he's wearing the earth-tone coat. The more I think about it I believe these were taken before & after the first LA Forum gig (12/5) and all the earth-tone shots at the Rainbow immediately after the second LA Forum gig (12/6) but since I'm going from memory at the moment it's best to call such speculation unconfirmed.

I do have a shot of Jimmy leaving a hotel wearing the earth-tone jacket and clutching what seem to be posters or lithographs of some sort. I believe I confirmed the hotel to be the Sunset Marquis but again I'm going from memory. I'll get that photo posted this weekend provided I can find it.

Woman? Isn't it John Waite? Actually I think Michael DesB! And Jimmy's scarf is white on the other pics, if that means anything.

I was going to say it looks to be him too.

I don't know anything about the outfits, the hotel, the exact dates and times, but I do know that these photos are from the LA ARMS concerts days, late 1983, early December.

I'm sorry if I offended or offend anyone here by suggesting that was a woman in the photo but I'm bad with faces (thought it might have been a female musician)...and I've always thought that Michael Des B. was a somewhat effeminate-looking man. Even now, knowing it's him in that photo, I still see a girlish sort of face.

  11. is he being kicked out of a club or something?

Or just to drunk to stand..

    here's another

jesus christ.... compare the man in my profile picture and the one in this picture

I can't tell if it's from the same night, late 1983 (I think) but I had posted some photos here before that my friend took of Jimmy in a club from that same era, in a similar condition. I took the photos down from here out of respect for Jimmy. My friends and I have seen photos of Jimmy when he was in even a worse state but none of us will post them here now. In your first photo he wasn't being kicked out in the photo you posted - those were his minders, helping him out. As far as the second photo, that's the toll that substance abuse takes on someone (and we never would have dreamed it would ever come to that with him)...thankfully he survived and looks great today.

  12. Found this while out 'hunting' today. Any idea when and who?

    post-16971-0-51084900-1303595514_thumb.j

    Thank you. jo

Intriguing. Circa '93-'96. Who and where?

When this photo first started circulating, the woman was identified by someone as Fabienne Shine. I have no idea if it is her - I am not good at recognizing faces and to me this woman doesn't resemble the Fabienne Shine from the old photo with Johnny Thunders or the Fabienne Shine of more recent years. It's definitely not Connie Hamzy.

  13. The fifth show organized by actor Warren Beatty for presidential candidate George McGovern is held at Madison Square Garden. Beatty coaxes several defunct acts to runite: Simon and Garfunkel, Peter, Paul and Mary and the comedy duo of Mike Nichols and Elaine May. A crowd of 18,000 attends, raising several hundred thousand dollars for the McGovern campaign.

Yes, I saw that as well as a poster of the event, a letter Warren Beatty sent to prospective supporters on behalf of McGovern, and some photos of various celebrities with Beatty and McGovern, but nothing more about Robert or Jimmy. For those of us who attended the LZ concert out on L.I. that night, it seems so surreal to imagine now that shortly before taking the stage and opening with a blistering version of IS at the Coliseum, the guys were sitting sedately at the Garden, listening to Simon and Garfunkel.

  14. This photo (thank you AEN) was taken at one of the benefit/fund-raising concerts that Warren Beatty held to support George McGovern's 1972 campaign. According to what I could find out about it, the concert was held on June 14 - the same day that we saw LZ perform out on Long Island. Was this McGovern concert held during the day, before the LZ concert? Does anyone know more about how Jimmy and Robert came to attend this McGovern benefit concert? Did Eddie Kramer invite them? I was (embarrassing to admit it now) not very politically aware then so this photo and the fact that Robert and Jimmy (in sunglasses - did he not want to be recognized in the crowd?) attended is news to me. I remember my friends and I waited for a long time at the guys' hotel, the EL Studios, and then at the Coliseum so we could see LZ come and go - all that time, having no idea that they had attended a McGovern benefit.

  15. Okay, am I the only one INTRIGUED by these two dates?

I've been to the Casino Ballroom on Catalina Island, so the fact Jimmy and the Yardbirds played there is fascinating. It's not a common stop for rock and roll bands on tour, that's for sure.

Do any photos or recordings exist of this gig? Was this during the time Jimmy and Jeff Beck were playing guitar, or was Jimmy still on bass at this point?

Then there's the 1969 gig...Led Zeppelin at Pirates World! I would kill for a photo of that marquee! Pirates World sounds like those tourist-trap theme-restaurants we have out here in Orange County, like Medieval Times. Where the hell is Dania?

Again, have any photos or recordings surfaced of this gig? This would've been the perfect night for Jimmy to wear his white puffy shirt.

Strider, if you look at posts #481, #482, etc. Here you can see some photos from the Yardies' Avalon gig that were on Jimmy's official page for that day. He also has some vintage photos and info about the LZ show at Pirates World Here (posts #462 and #463).

  16. Thanks for that Pagemeister!

I watched almost all of it. Thoughts- I love Paul's voice, it has withstood time, and is so unique.

The STAGE!!! Now why oh why can't we have more set ups similar to that. It was awesome...most of all for the large space free of clutter, and semi hidden monitors. I Hate those big azz monitors like Planty has on his stage...and still using a song-sheet....holy ____. It's almost like a barrier from the front row, maybe he is so sick of the same old OLD regulars he just doesn't want to see 'em. :P

The other thing I Loved about this show....from a female point of view here....FINALLY some Young good lookin' guys!!!! :o:banana: Oh yes, EYE candy for the ladies never ever fails.

And Rodgers himself, my he has energy, and not even Grampa boobies. WOW!

Now that is a ROCK band IMHO. :bravo:

I know you love Bad...I think that bad Bad experience I had permanently soured me on them. :(
