Ok, so there's a U.S. nonprofit financials database called Guidestar. Anyone can set up an account and search basic financial information of nonprofit organizations and trusts all over the country. It's very comprehensive, as it includes every organization that has filed Form 990 tax form with the U.S. government. Want to know how much in assets Willie Dixon's Blues Heaven has laying around? It's on Guidestar, as well as the salary taken by Willie's daughter (it's not much) and some other information. Blues Heaven operates a museum/club where concerts and fundraisers are held, has assets of over $1 million, and does other work promoting the blues and helping blues artists recoup royalties, etc.  In other words, the foundation does what it says it's set up to do.

Run a search for Randy Craig Wolfe Trust on Guidestar and you get nothing. Search for Randy Wolfe Trust you get nothing. Search for Randy Wolfe you get nothing. Search "Randy Craig" all over the U.S. you get nothing. Search Pennsylvania for every nonprofit with the name "Randy" attached to it and you get nothing related to anyone named Wolfe or Wolf. Search Pennsylvania for organizations with the name Wolf and you get many related to wolf preservation and a number of other foundations set up by people named Wolfe or Wolf but none of them named Randy.

The Randy Craig Wolfe Trust does not appear to exist as a charitable organization operating anywhere in the U.S. or in Pennsylvania where it is allegedly based. The validity of the trust was brought up at trial in a motion by Led Zep lawyers but was denied by the judge. This did not necessarily mean the motion had no merit, as it seemed the judge was reluctant to chuck the case on any technical motions (though he certainly could have on a couple of points).

It would seem The Randy Craig Wolfe Trust is operating in the dark until it can pull some funding from ... oh, Led Zeppelin of course ---  which means this entire charade appears to be an elaborate scam by Skidmore and the unfortunately named Malofiy, with the support of Wolfe's sisters, to shake down Led Zeppelin, known for settling its blues debts quietly and out of court.

This is some terrific information, thanks for posting it.   Hopefully the media will pick up on this and expose The Randy Craig Wolfe Trust for what it really is.

Absolutely!  I don't know how Malofiy can even pursue this. Even for a lawyer, he is such a money grubbing, attention seeking, ambulance chasing, scum bag!  Of course, he couldn't keep goin if he didn't have $ support behind him....

Who's the bigger scumbag, Malofiy or Skidmore?     At what point does Skidmore actually act like the trustee to the estate that he's supposed to be?

  3. Did Led Zeppelin really win this case on a technicality, like Malofiy is claiming?   I thought the judge just followed the rules and procedures of a standard copy write infringement case and it's not like he gave special treatment to Page & Plant because they are big rock stars.

Anyway, I think that appealing this case and having the jury's verdict overturned would be very difficult.

The attorney for the plaintiff was just on a CNN program called Smerconish (he is a lawyer) . He says that he had to fight the case with both hands behind his back and that the trial wasn't about money but credit, He insinuated that he would appeal the case on reversible error. The error being that they could not use the actual  Taurus recording to compare to Stairway To Heaven.

The host of the show thought that the songs sounded alike. I thing that he needs to clean the wax out of his ears.

As you can see that an attorney is never going to turn down the chance for more billable hours. He is going to milk this for as long as he can. I find it interesting that he stated (outside the courthouse) that one of the reasons that Randy California didn't sue was because of the cost. Apparently there is an abundance of money available now?

And I was think this guy's 15 minutes were about up.

Also, If you listen to the brief press conference by the sisters of Randy California, all they talked about was money.

The sisters probably already had their cut of suit money spent.   Too bad.

They've mainly been listening to expert performances of the songs based on the original sheet music - that's what just happened in court.

    OK, thanks for the clarification.

Jury closed their eyes while listening to the audio clips. Methinks a verdict will be coming soon at #StairwayToHeaven trial. Hang tight.

This doesn't sound good for Page & Plant.   I thought the case was supposed to be judged on sheet music only?

  8. I'll be seeing them in Philly but to be honest, I'm only going since my friend is dying to see them. I prefer to keep the '96 reunion as my only Kiss show. So be it.

I saw them on that same tour, in Chicago. I have to admit it was a fun show.

  9. I do, only the live albums really though. They sound so much better than the studio stuff. I mean, how about those epic versions of Black Diamond, 100,000 years, Cold Gin, God of Thunder, Shock Me on Alive and Alive II. They blow away they're studio counterparts.

I agree with you. Kiss Alive and Alive II are all I need from KISS. I never thought their studio albums were that great, except Destroyer.

    Don't Be Denied

A resolutely private artist who seldom looks back, Neil Young has never before unfolded his career on camera. With unprecedented access to one of the world’s renowned music legends, American Masters presents Neil Young: Don’t Be Denied premiering nationally Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 9 p.m. (ET) on PBS (check local listings). The film explores how Young’s unbending dedication to the muse has created an awe-inspiring body of work and bruised a few egos along the way.

Thanks for positing this. I missed it the first time it showed, but I'm going to catch when it's repeated later this month.
