  1. If you don't have the DVD of IMGL, pick it up and check out the acoustic song in the extras. Sounds pretty fully formed to me, and really good. Has that Page exotic and dramatic sound IMO.
  2. Anyone remember the Guitar World in 2000 with Jimmy and Jeff Beck on the cover? It included a joint interview, it was a great issue. Check out this story from Ross Halfin regarding Clapton and that issue: Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck London (2000) I was asked by Guitar World Magazine to shoot a cover for their millennium issue. Originally it was supposed to be Beck, Page and Eric Clapton but the day before the shoot I got a fax from Clapton’s management stating that if he came to the shoot I had to guarantee the cover would feature Clapton and only Clapton. As you can see, I ended up shooting the cover with the other two instead.
  3. You nailed probably my three favorites so I might have to trust you on this! I'm a big fan of his first solo album too, "McCartney"...
  4. Wow, never heard that one before! Thanks for posting Deb!
  5. As for Baker's comments on Bonzo, they're silly. Criticizing Bonzo because he "can't swing" is like saying Michael Jordan was not a great basketball player because he "couldn't jump". Bonzo could swing like a motherf$&!er!
  6. I second that. Is Clapton great? Yes, of course. More versatile than Page? Hell no. Unless by "versatile" you mean "able to play a Freddie King inspired blues solo over any song."
  7. I really like his first solo effort, McCartney. Recorded at home and sounds like it, but a great sketch pad from a time when he was on a serious songwriting roll. Played all the instruments himself too, including drums!
  8. I rate "Satisfaction Guaranteed" ahead of Radioactive for starters. There are others. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YDjRFTIhxnA
  9. Given the presence of the world famous (perhaps not) San Diego Chicken, could this have been in San Diego? Would that add up?
  10. Awesome photo Steve, never seen that one before! I appreciated Jimmy's efforts to bring some 70's into the 80's, God knows that decade needed it!
  11. Joe Walsh recently released his first solo album of new material in I think over 20 years. There's hope!
  12. Wow, that pic looks like '75, I think that's the earliest picture I've ever seen of Jimmy with the b-bender Tele! Didn't think he'd used it in a live setting before '77, then obviously it became his main axe on the ARMS tour and The Firm.
  13. Not to make excuses but let me make an excuse. Unlike Plant, Jones, and Jason, Page hadn't played a complete gig since the summer of 2000; over seven years! That's by far the longest layoff he's ever had in his entire career, longer even than the time between John Bonham's death and the ARMS concerts! I feel he took the biggest risk of anyone in doing this as a one night only, no warmup gig event. Having said that, I thought he did great, especially under those circumstances and with a broken pinky on his fretting hand. I also have no doubt that if they did even a handful of shows after December 10th he would have really gotten into a groove. I saw his second and third shows with the Black Crowes in New York and he seems to feel his way early in a tour. When I saw them again in the summer of 2000 he played like a man possessed.
  14. Never heard that, thanks for posting. Jimmy is such a great interview now, but he could be a difficult interview in the 80's! He really made no bones about conveying that he'd rather be anywhere else. To be fair, it's hard to believe how lame some of the questions were. I mean, "Was All The Kings Horses inspired by the nursery rhyme?" Really?!?!?!
  15. By far the most positive comment I've ever heard from Nugent on Zeppelin, and Page in particular. I have to think his time with Jason on that reality show had something to do with that.
  16. Yes but I'm not talking about the old days. I'm talking about the O2, and he definitely used one in that show.
  17. He also used it on the opening riff of NFBM, it takes the pitch up in this case.
  18. Eastwood wasn't there to appease democrats, he's an entertainer who knows his role and was there to give red meat to the Republcans and fire them up. Mission accomplished as his act played big in the hall and in many living rooms. The media's reaction just confirms that he drew blood in my opinion.
  19. Not every party can book an artistic giant, not to mention a political heavyweight, such as Eva Longoria.
  20. I'm nitpicking but Embryo 1 and 2 are not acoustic, and have not been released. Unless you count short snippets in IMGL.
  21. Agreed Steve, that wasn't my point. My point is that he by all accounts HAS music he COULD record and release. For whatever reason, he just doesn't.
  22. Hey Knebby, I can't find it but I remember Jason saying after the jam sessions ended that Jimmy had a bunch of great stuff and he was under the impression that now Jimmy would take them in an acoustic direction. And of course Jimmy has made lots of references to having a "menu" of new songs. Sorry I don't have a link!
  23. And yet clearly he brought new songs to the jam sessions with Jones and Jason, and claims to have many new songs. Somewhat puzzling that he doesn't want them to see the light of day in some fashion. I keep coming back to the thought that he's in a "Zeppelin or nothing" frame of mind when it comes to recording new music. And I really like the acoustic piece on the IMGL DVD extras. If that's what he's been up to I'd love to hear more...
