  1. A lot of the lanes around here have Cosmic Bowling on the weekends. We were just finishing up last night when they started... black lights, disco balls and loud music. Looks like fun...next time we may go later in the evening.

I just went bowling yesterday afternoon for the first time in years. When we first arrived around 2pm it was normal in there, but after fifteen minutes it was like a disco. Just like you described. At first i was annoyed, but after a few minutes i got used to it. Anyway, bowling with my sister, oldest niece and my five year old was fun.

Today i was happy to see my daughter take her second ice skating lesson. Took lots of pictures too. I love having such an active child!

  2. Saw two movies lately. Two weeks ago took my daughter and one of my nieces to see "The Princess and the Frog". I really enjoyed the authenticity of New Orleans the movie brought to it. I even shed a couple tears towards the end when the firefly died and joined his true love :) My daughter fell asleep half way through (but she's not good at sitting still long). My niece really liked it. Today i took my daughter to see "Alvin and the Chipmunks, the Squeakquel". Wasn't sure i would be able to sit through it, but it wasn't too bad. Best part, we were the only two people in the theatre! My daughter really liked it so was worth the trip. I am hoping to see Avatar at IMAX soon.

  3. Having a nice lunch at Cheesecake Factory with my daughter and one of my sisters... checking out ice skating rinks, and signing our daughter's up for lessons... first one this Sunday! Picking out a karate (Kenpo/kickboxing/self defense) studio to send my daughter... as soon as the end of dance season in June. An appointment to register for summer camp/swim club for me and my daughter this Monday. Loving the idea of juggling so many activities and watching which ones she excels in! Seven days off after working this weekend!

  4. Having a nice time at an indoor swim club birthday party today. My daughter loved swimming again and so now we are definitely going to restart swim lessons this month. The life guard was her swim instructor over the summer so it was great to see her. Also happy about signing my daughter up for ice skating lessons this month! We're running out of days of the week.

  5. Spending the day with my sister and nieces. Seeing Disney on Ice with all the girls, then having a nice lunch at a seafood place (fresh lobster tails, yum). Taking nice pictures of the show and getting 277 pictures developed today! I love having a digital camera.

  6. My first year in 17 when i won't be working Christmas Eve or Christmas Day (except for 2004 when i was still on maternity leave). Going bowling with my sister and nieces tomorrow, Japanese food for dinner tomorrow night, and mom is cooking a fresh turkey dinner on Christmas. Happy Holidays to all!

  7. hey tangerine, that's good!

it's been so hot here .... but i saw a forecast for christmas day, and it is supposed to be around 20 degrees celcius. i hope so! that would be perfect, not too hot to have a roast dinner!

Hi slave to zep, i would love to trade weather with you (or join you there)!

I was happy all day. Got some nice fresh fruit and other food supplies for the "big storm", lol. Needed to go food shopping anyway. Had grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch (comfort food). Shoveled snow with my daughter, who was a big help with the broom. Enjoyed watching all the snow fall while feeling so much freedom. My poor coworkers are stuck at work in "snow emergency" conditions. They may never get home (due to policy, not just weather). Looks like we will end up with close to 2 feet by morning when it should end.

  8. Hi Virginia, we are getting your snow up here now :) So far looks like close to a foot and i hear they are expecting 18 to 24". We haven't had this much snow in a long time either. I'm getting ready to go out and shovel now so i will only have to do half the job tomorrow. It's 20 degrees but not windy. Tomorrow winds are supposed to pick up.

  9. It's more like a drowning person who is terrified and starts to pull the person saving them under. She is really shattered. She may well be beyond help. Ultimately she has to help herself. Unfortunately, she has mastered all of my buttons, and knows just how to push them. She uses that skill to create reasons to "run away" - as she like to put it.

    I'll do it for you.

It's going down to ~20 degrees F and windy tonight. The last time I spoke with her, she had no place to stay, and her phone is not working. She often gets so drunk she passes out. Deadly cold and hard liquor are not a good combination. I begged her to get on the train out to where I live. She said she was getting on the train, but she didn't say where to.

I know I should just let her go. 90% chance she would find shelter. It's now bedtime for me. I don't think sleep is in the cards.

Atlas, she needs to be in Rehab. Not that it's guaranteed to work because we all know it often doesn't. You are just prolonging your own pain in a situation you can't control or improve. I think you would also benefit from talking to a therapist. I understand your love for her, but she can't reciprocate. She manipulates you and uses you. You deserve a better relationship than this one.

  10. thanks tangerine. and thankyou for always being so thoughtful and interested. it feels nice! you and ninelives are always there with a friendly post!

i bet you can't wait for christmas day with your daughter. any plans? do you have to work?

i am working an earlier shift than previous years this christmas eve, which will be so nice. in the past, i always had to work the latest shift, which was till 11 or 12 pm when the shop shuts, to do all the cleaning up etc. i would go home, do the santa thing and fall into bed at about 2am and have to get up early with my son. this year i will be finishing about 4pm, so i can do last minute shopping, have dinner at home, a few drinks .... just like normal people! lol

Hi slave to zep, you're welcome! I know how much pride and joy you feel for your son! I'm so glad to hear he is making such wonderful progress! It will be so nice you get to spend quality time with your family this year at Christmas! Have a great holiday!

I am off Christmas eve and Christmas day this year but working eight hour evening shifts on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. At least my daughter will get to spend New Year's Eve day with my sister and her girls. They are seeing Disney on Ice and then going out to dinner. I know she will have a great time.

  11. Hi All,

About 10 minutes ago a little sparrow crashed in to my front window, i went out to see if it was OK and found the little mite dazed and confused so i picked it up and put it on too my workbench which is in the front garden. After about five minutes it suddenly just flew off so i went inside my house, just in time to see our resident fox run from my back garden down my alley and right pased where the litte sparrow would have been laying if i had not picked it up. It gave me such joy to have been able to have rescued the little fella and to have denied the fox his lunch, which he most certainly would have had, it has made my day. :D

    Regards, Danny

Hi Danny, that was a wonderful thing to do for the bird. You saved his life! I'm very proud of you :) Quite a few years ago when i was with my exhusband i noticed an injured pigeon in our driveway. He had injured his leg. My husband and i found an animal rescue place (it was on a Sunday as i recall so not much open). The place was quite a drive but i begged my husband to take me. He picked up the bird (i was afraid to) and we took him there. We called to check on his progress and were told he was doing fine a few weeks later. It's a good feeling to help an animal in need.

Foxes running around your area? I have never seen one where i live. The red fox is a beautiful creature.

  12. my son was the recipient of one of the major end of year awards at school. it was his first time. he has aspergers, and until this year it wasn't looking too good for him. he has really tried this year, and it has paid off.

i was a very proud mum watching him take the stage.

and his yearly report card has him at age level for most subjects and ABOVE LEVEL in art! ( i think santa will be good to him this year! )

So heartwarming to hear such good news!

What a nice Christmas present your son has given you, slave to zep! He sounds like he has some talent that needs to be explored!

    Have a great holiday season!

I was happy my daughter had such a good time at school today (it was carnival day)! Getting some major cleaning done around the house was nice, too!

  13. My arms ache to hold her, but she is poison.

Atlas, don't you feel you deserve better? This girl has proven to you, quite a while ago, that she does not want help. Once you realize someone doesn't really care, then it's time to move on. It took me a long time to see that with someone in my past, but once i finally opened my eyes, it was easy. Your self respect can only be beaten down for so long. I am sure there is a girl out there with more to offer than this one.

No reason to feel unhappy so far today!

  14. Happy that a long, busy weekend is over. Working Friday through Sunday will do that to you :) Now i can enjoy knowing that i only have to work Wednesday this week and off until Monday! I guess sometimes working all weekend isn't so bad (when it's over)! Happy that despite cold temps, the sun is shining bright! Watching a bunch of squirrels running around outside through the window. I think i'm gonna take them some seeds/nuts i have in the house outside (since they are going in my trashcan, lol).

Hotplant, i see what you are talking about. I do wish Spats was still here, but wow, that thread was so negative.

Hey Doc, did you get that snow you were talking about? I am happy we got just an inch of snow this weekend. Wasn't enough to disrupt traveling to and from work, thank goodness!!!

edit: i guess i missed all the fun. I noticed the bring back spats thread but that's all i got to see.

  15. It was so incredibly funny to watch; I have never met anyone in real life who is remotely like Chad. Actually all 3 of them are pretty funny. I don't think they would last long where I live and vice versa  We're definitely not on the same planet!

It is a funny show and i love that aspect of it. They are all unusual, but i have a feeling they are typical for Hollywood natives. Have you noticed the clients are even weirder than the realtors? :) If you watch a few more episodes that will be clear. Try to look past Chad's oddness :) and you will see his resemblance to the Beatles, lol. Not just the hair...

  16. Is that CHAD in your avatar?! :D We just discovered that show over the weekend. What a trip! :)

I am happy to be feeling better; I've had a cold for ~ 2 weeks, it apparently settled into an inner ear infection. Sunday/Monday were pretty rough but I am much better now!

Hi Virginia, yes, lol, it's Chad Rogers !!! You have to watch the whole season. I started watching this season because i like Bravo (Top Chef, Rachel Zoe Project, Millionaire Matchmaker) and i kept seeing previews for his show. I instantly found him adorable, since he has the look i love. I really love the show now and hope they will replay last season's shows since i didn't watch back then. Chad may seem like a geek to some, but i think he is a really cool guy. I love Starla, too. I don't use Twitter much, but i like to read his page. He responds to all his fans!

    Glad you feel better!

  17. Spending the day in Center City with my sister and all the girls. Seeing the light show at Macy's was very pretty, shopping for clothes for my daughter (as usual :) ), a trip to Reading Terminal Market for lunch, and dinner at Hard Rock Cafe. Today really felt like winter (the temps and the activities). I'm ready for spring now!

  18. Hi Slave to Zep, hope you had a nice vacation... be so long since i spoke with you :)

I had a great birthday lunch with my daughter at Japanese Hibachi. Took my nieces along since everyone had off for the holiday. Then i got to watch my daughter at ballet/tap. Awesome. Last, a spending spree at Target to pick up birthday gifts on the gift card my daughter received.

Edit: and U2 presale tickets with first level seating close to the stage! Can't wait for July!
