  1. It was broken (in 2 places?). But as it's a small bone and he would have had the best of medical care, it healed a little faster I suppose. Usually 6 weeks is the expected time for a large bone breakage, Page had a little over 5 weeks to recover.
  2. That's like saying Jimmy/Robert is a cheater for using octave effects. Who cares. If a musician has a tool to make his life easier, without compromising the quality of a song/sound (and more often adding to the song), then why not use it?
  3. They should pay royalties to anyone whose music is incorporated into the recording (whether they do is another matter!) Technically they should have paid royalties every time they played a cover on stage, and I don't think they did. The HTWWW album does include credits for the various covers they played, however. Would San Francisco get royalties? That's a bit of a grey area - Jimmy's playing is all original and Robert did a lot of improvisation around the original lyrics, so I think they would have a case to argue that it is a new work and don't owe royalties. They would all have a place, I think. Each fulfilling a different purpose. The whole thing about a live recording is that is it just that - a recording. Every person who goes to a show experiences it differently, depending on where they sit etc. A recording reflects that difference of experience. Obviously a fully mixed and mastered multi-track recording will give the best aural experience. But part of the fun of collecting and listening to bootlegs is to do with the history of that particular show - when it was, who recorded it and how, what songs were played, what improvs were done, what Plantations Robert made, what mistakes happened. So bootleg recordings will always have a place.
  4. This possibly/probably exists...Depending of course on Kevin Shirley's work methods, he could have mixed the whole show before they edited out the parts you talked about. Meaning that somewhere a mix of these songs would exist.
  5. In HotG I think, or maybe STH, Cole claims Plant said, "I would be willing to do it, but those fat chicks wouldn't be able to give me a hard-on" or something along those lines
  6. The Mellotron was not used on the studio recording however - if you don't believe me listen for the breaths JPJ takes between phrases. Side note: The Mellotron was difficult to use in a live setting as it was susceptable to environmental problems (changes in temperature or humidity) as well as power irregularities (surges etc). This meant it was difficult to keep in tune and was not alway reliable.
  7. I think they both serve a purpose and both deserve to exist
  8. I believe it is also a bit of an un-written rule amongst session players that they didn't talk about whose sessions they played on. See for example the ongoing argument between the Kinks and Page as to whether he played on 'You Really Got Me'. It would be embarassing for them to admit that they didn't even record their biggest hit on their own......
  9. There are 2 recorder parts, played by JPJ. It was synthesised on every live show.
  10. Mrs von Zeppelin, upset about the use of her family name, threatened legal action against the band when she heard they were coming to Denmark and called them a bunch of "shrieking monkeys". The band were able to charm her out of it, until she saw a copy of the first album's cover (the Hindenburg). She resumed her threats of litigation, forcing the band to play the Copenhagen show billed as "The Nobs".
  11. There has been speculation that "Zacron" is a psuedonym for Page himself - is there any proof that Zacron exists? Also I would like to put my 2 cents in here and say that in my view, this thread is for the sharing of/examination of information & facts regarding Led Zeppelin. It is not a competition for determining who is the most right. If someone is wrong - and you can prove that they are wrong, then set them right. But don't attack the man, attack their argument. Also, citing a Wikipedia article, dubious enough as it is - when that article only says, "allegedly" anyway - does not constitute a proper argument. Perhaps he meant that RP was the only one who ever wrote down the lyrics....haha
  12. Page never claimed to nor has he been attributed with inventing tapping. The Heartbreaker solo, which inspired EVH to finger tap, was played with traditional hammer-on pull-off techniques of the left hand.
  13. Here is the flaw in your argument that EVH is more imaginative than Page. Van Halen got the idea for his finger tapping technique from the Page solo on Heartbreaker. Thus without Page, there would have been no finger tapping. Thus Page wins.
  14. I'm no Deep Purple expert - but are you sure about this? Gillan came in during 1969 - Zeppelin weren't THAT well known in the UK at that time, and just starting to get a profile in the US?
  15. Nervous Breakdown actually sounds more like Livin' Lovin' Maid than Communication Breakdown, to me.
  16. Led Zeppelin and his backing band never sang 'Dream On'
  17. I don't think it's necessary that a person be likable for you to like their music. Also, Morrison has been deified. He was a wonderful musician/lyricist/poet, but he was also a drug addict and alcoholic, who often got violent or abusive and otherwise unpredictable. Maybe this is what Plant (along with many others) didn't/don't like. He wasted so much talent by drowning it in alcohol and numbing it with drugs.
  18. It was a fight over petrol money from several years before (I think it was even less than the 70 quid mentioned).
  19. I can't believe there is a discussion about whether a rock singer swore? And how funny is that guy above who is like "I'm not allowed to cuss but they said the d-word" I didn't know damn was a swear word?
