  1. But by saying that, doesn't he then prove that he did sample it and it wasn't a re-recording? That doesn't make sense to me.
  2. That's a good point. Has he just sold his songwriting rights? Does he still get royalties as a performer. Does this include TSRTS etc?
  3. I remember someone said something along the lines of "how much are you going to pay us" and the offer was something like $100,000, and the response was "that's not very much when you have to split it three ways". But I think the financial part of the deal wouldn't have had much to do with the decision not to allow it.
  4. For once in a while this thread is a little quiet. I have a new one. MrZoSo has made a claim in another thread that Robert Plant sold his songwriting royalties for Led Zeppelin's songs to Jimmy Page in 1983. Can anyone confirm or deny this, or offer any more information?
  5. I didn't realise it was Sullivan's guitar but I knew it was borrowed, and Page lamented the fact that he couldn't keep it. It was used on BIGLY and has a beautiful sound. I've never even thought about this, you know. I've certainly never seen video/film footage from the studio, the closest to that sort of thing has been Eddie Kramer's photos, but even then there are very few of them actually recording, it's mostly stuff of them mucking around outside the studio.
  6. Page practiced what he called the "lost art of tone control". He was always making adjustments to the volume and tone knobs as well as variations on his picking style - sometimes closer to the bridge sometimes further away, harder and softer etc. Kevin Shirley remarked on this when he was listening to Page's isolated tracks for HTWWW
  7. He was also annoyed that they both played You Shook Me. But compare the two and you will know that Zeppelin was way ahead of Beck. Point of interest: John Paul Jones played on Beck's 'Truth' album, adding organ to You Shook Me, but he never told Page because "It didn't seem important - the songs were so different," or something along those lines.
  8. Well obviously with your gear you can't get his sound. Someone on here claimed they ran into him and he told them his live settings from 72 onwards were treble - 10, mids - 4, bass - 2
  9. It's like a tradesman's tools - they are essential to his craft and he becomes attached to them, having favourites etc.
  10. I would guess the #1 Led Paul would be worth over $1mil as Page was the guitarist who really popularised it's use as the main rock guitarist's guitar. They will never be sold in his lifetime, unless he fully retires from music and wants to raise money for his charities.
  11. Hey at least they didn't steal your master tapes with most of Zeppelin's live recordings and a whole albums worth of demos for your upcoming album......

    Found Money

You realise you just found 2 ways to mis-spell dollar.

    Found Money

I have a Zep-related money finding story. I was at a tribute show for Zeppelin, and during intermission I was at the bar, and looked down and there on the floor was $20. I looked around but no-one seemed to be looking around for money or anything so I used that to buy the next round. So there you go.
  14. Hahaha. A wizard. The Order of the Golden Dawn was Crowley's connection.
  15. I should clarify that everything I said would be what the various members would want to be able to hear - not necessarily what their monitor mix would be. i.e. Page might want to hear more drums, which are loud enough without being put through the monitors at all, so instead he is given less bass through his monitors etc.
  16. PhotonBeam over at RO said that every show was recorded, and that these tapes were always given pretty much straight to Jimmy. There were no 'crew copies' or anything of the sort. The monitor mix is something that is different from band to band, depending on the dynamic of the band. I would suggest that all the other members would want to hear Page clearly, as he was band leader musically speaking. Bonham and Jones would want to hear each other, but Bonham would want an equal mix of Jones and Page. Who knows what Robert wanted? I know singers who want to hear lots of guitar, others who want bass and others who want drums. I think that it would make sense Page wanted more Bonham than Jones - JPJ played a lot of stuff which augmented and textured the guitars, rather than the guitars being based on the keys/bass, which is another way to do things. Who knows it's all speculation really.
  17. It's such a damn shame because the acts of a few selfish people have deprived us all of any official release now... I mean, we have versions of the tapes, which is great, but they will always be bootleg quality and won't get the once over by Jimmy.....
  18. There are plenty of bands who are big, and who go on every night as scheduled, and play a full set. It might not be easy to do, as you say, but some people take pride in the fact that they are professional musicians, who are being paid to do what they do. If anyone else showed up to work as erratically as Axl they would get fired. Geffen's mistake was to keep paying him. It got to a point where they couldn't pull the plug because they had already spent so much money.
  19. Lets just say for a minute that SAJ is a delusional who thinks he is the moderator of the forum....so what. Why do you people get so worked up about it? The great thing about this place, is if you don't like someone, you can ignore them. If you can't ignore them by not reading their posts - you can set the board to remove that person's posts from your display. It seems to me like there is a bunch of whingers up on their high horses here and it's pointless and boring for everyone else. If you don't like the Steve A Jones thread, and the fact that it has his name in it, then DON'T COME HERE and leave the rest of us in peace. The battle of SAJ vs. Knebby who claims to have so much inside knowledge. For all I know you are both full of crap, and unless anyone cares to provide proof otherwise, I will continue to believe that. At least Steve is trying to be helpful, even if he does it in a way you people don't agree with.
  20. It's not uncommon in film/video production for the production house/laboratory to keep the masters in their vault. In this case, providing a clean, controlled and safe environment for storage of the tapes was probably part of the contract. It doesn't mean that the band/record company don't have ownership of all rights associated with the recordings, just that the production house is taking care of the physical tapes.
  21. Page strongly believed that a person had to follow their own spiritual journey and that is why he never talked about his practices/beliefs until recently.
  22. It's been covered extensively several times here and also, it's not just "Aleister Crowley shit". It's an important aspect to Jimmy Page's life and music, and he was an important figure in the development of society through the 60s and 70s.......and shit
  23. Seriously......?? I don't even know what to say......
  24. This doesn't look photoshopped to me. It would be a lot of effort.... Note the distortion on the pic above - this is a lens distortion and to superimpose the logo with the same distortion would be very difficult. Note how the shape of the logo is different in the B&W compare to the others, as Jimmy's body is turned to the side. If this is photoshopped it is very elaborate and I have never seen Ross photoshop any other images for a laugh.
