I just read about a new pending lawsuit over Stairway to Heaven, and wanted to give my opinion. It's not the first time LZ has been sued, and probably won't be the last. There's a bill in Congress and some other important info highlighted in this New York Times essay. The Beatles' "Love Me Do" and its b-side "PS I Love You", released in 1962, are now in the public domain within Europe after its copyright lapsed on 31st December 2012. Under existing E.U. law, copyright for recorded music expires after 50 years.
