THE HEART THREAD!

Recommended Posts

The live version of Mistral Wind from Greatest Hits/Live is awesome. I wore out my vinyl listening to that track over and over as a kid. :D

The KBFH version from June 3, 1979 (with Roger) blows that into the dust!! Check out www.wolfgangsvault.com. It's on there. It's by FAR the best Heart show you'll ever hear, hands down. :D

How's it going "ninelives?" Long time no hear! I hope all is well with you. Forgive me for being drunk, I am at the local bar hanging out with some cool friends. All of my friends are reading this thread as I speak and they like it very much. What's even more surprising is that many of my friends are hard core ZEPPELIN fanatics and have never seen this Forum before. I get the feeling that a lot of my friends are going to be joining this Forum, God help us all! Ha Ha!

You are right "ninelives," "Mistral Wind" is one hell of a serious slow ass kicking song. Whoever hasn't heard this Rock classic yet, get ready for the rude awakening of your lives.

As for the album "DREAMBOAT ANNIE," the songs are as follows: "Magic Man," "Dreamboat Annie (Fantasy Child)," "Crazy On You," "Soul Of The Sea," "Dreamboat Annie," "White Lightning & Wine," "(Love Me Like Music) I'll Be Your Song," "Sing Child," "How Deep It Goes" and "Dreamboat Annie (Reprise)." These are all of the songs in their exact order. I hope you buy this album, I promise you that you will not be disappointed. ROCK ON!

Thanks for the song list ZFF. Most of them I know already. I might check it out at some point though the Heart songs I like better are on the two albums I own.

To this day I am STILL madly in love with Ann Wilson. She has the best live voice I have personally ever heard. The last time I saw them play in England (2004) they were fantastic and did a stonking 3 song Zeppelin encore. Great gig.

How's it going "Mangani?" You're not the only one! I have always been in love with both sisters. In my opinion, both Ann and Nancy brought back the beauty and glamour into Rock n' Roll. I bet that every horny guy, myself included, were willing to be male groupies just to meet them. And just think, these two beautiful sisters had loads of talent to go along with it. What more could you ask for? ROCK ON!

how's it going "The Rover?" While at the local bar drinking and meeting women, I was using the owner's (A good friend of mine.) computer in order to show the LED ZEPPELIN Forum to some of my friends. We were looking at all of the links which show HEART at their absolute best. We were so blown away by "The Rover" link as well as 'Stairway To Heaven." We were so drunk as well as in amazement of how great HEART sounded live. God Damn that woman can sing! What can you say, Ann Wilson is blessed with a RARE God-given talent and she sure knows how to use it. All of HEART'S songs proves it and speaks for itself. ROCK ON!

How's it going fellow die hard hard core ZEPPELIN fanatics? I hope that the week is treating all of you well. I haven't written a thread in a while and I figured that since I am on vacation for two weeks, now is the best time to do some writing. Whats even better is that my mandatory overtime is officially over, THANK GOD! I would really like to officially make this month 1970's month here on the Forum! Why, because I feel that it is my responsibility as an older fellow ZEPPELIN fanatic, to bring the 1970's to all of the young men and women here on the forum that were either not born yet or were too young to remember. I would also hope that the other older ZEPPELIN fanatics here on the Forum would feel the same way as I do. I really think that it is great that there are so many young people here on the Forum that love ZEPPELIN and yet, were not even around during their incredible reign.

There have been many great Female Icons that have graced us and have passed through Popular Music's most glorious history. I am talking about Female Icons such as Billie Holliday, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, Stevie Nicks, Karen Carpenter, Pat Benatar, Diana Ross, Carole King and Carly Simon to name a few. But there is one woman that truly deserves to be listed along side all of these elite women. Her accomplishments and achievements in the Rock n' Roll world has earned her the right in being called one of the Top 5 QUEEN'S OF ROCK N' ROLL along side JANIS JOPLIN, GRACE SLICK, STEVIE NICKS and PAT BENATAR.

Which now brings me to the band that I am about to write about. My next choice out of many bands to write a thread about is a band that needs no introduction the world over. If there are other threads on this band written here on the Forum, this thread will be an attachment and addition to them. This is the story of two sisters: the Lead Singer in this band is hailed as one of the all-time greatest female icons ever while the other is hailed as one of the all-time greatest bad ass female Rhythm Guitarists ever. The name of the band is HEART, and the two sisters that I am referring to is none other than Ann Wilson and her sister, Nancy Wilson. So without further delay, AND AWAY WE GO!

Sister's Ann and Nancy Wilson were originally born and raised in Canada but would soon move to America by way of Seattle. Both Ann and Nancy had the Rock n' Roll bug at a very early age. While they idolized their band, thats right you guessed it, the mighty LED ZEPPELIN, Ann and Nancy had a dream of their own. The two sister's had a dream and goal in taking Rock n' Roll to another level and dimension. Their music had a great Hard Rock sound to it and had great rhythm. But what no one expected was for Ann Wilson's blistering angelic high vocal ranges to take you on a Rock n' Roll journey up to the heavens and break down the barriers by kicking the heavenly doors wide open and daring to ROCK HEAVEN DOWN! And Ann did just that! Ann sang her songs with such grace, beauty and conviction, that she dared to get every guy off in the audience. In my opinion, besides JANIS JOPLIN, STEVIE NICKS and KAREN CARPENTER, Ann Wilson is an angel sent from heaven. Ann has a voice of an angel. Just when you think that Ann has hit the peak with her high vocal ranges, she dares to push her limits even further into unknown territory.

All of HEART'S albums are a true testiment to the brilliance and sheer creativity of two sister's that have captured and touched everyone throughout the whole world. HEART has left left their mark in Rock history by giving us a resume of many great studio albums such as: DREAMBOAT ANNIE (1976), LITTLE QUEEN (1977), DOG & BUTTERFLY (1978), MAGAZINE (1978), BEBE LE STRANGE (1980), PRIVATE AUDITION (1982), PASSIONWORKS (1983), HEART (1985), BAD ANIMALS (1987), BRIGADE (1990), DESIRE WALKS IN (1993), JUPITERS DARLING (2004) and ANN WILSON'S solo album HOPE & GLORY (2007). Ann and Nancy also formed a band called THE LOVEMONGERS and recorded an album called WHIRLYGIG in 1998. All of these albums redefined female Rockers and took Rock n' Roll to another level unimagined.

HEART'S songs are also precious treasures that are timeless because they gave Rock n' Roll a huge boost and a new breath of fresh air. The list is long but I'll name a few and are as follows: "Magic Man," "Crazy On You," "Barracuda," "Love Alive," "Kick It out," "Little Queen," "Cook With Fire," "Straight on," "Dog & Butterfly," "Mistral Wind," "Heartless," "Magazine," "Bebe Le Strange," "Rockin' Heaven Down," "Even It Up," "City's Burning," "Perfect Stranger," "Private Audition," "Fast Times," "How Can I Refuse," "If Looks Could Kill," "What About Love," "Never," "These Dreams," "Who Will You Run To," "Alone," "Bad Animals," "Wild Child," "All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You," "Secret," "Call Of The Wild," "Desire" and "Desire Walks In." Are these great songs are what?

If you haven't bought their live CD's and DVD's yet, I would strongly like to encourage you to buy them.

With all of these great encyclopedia of albums filled with great songs under their belts, I guess that it is safe to say that HEART is here to stay and are not going anywhere anytime soon. Keep a good lookout for them, they should be coming to a city near you soon. And as the saying goes, AND THE REST IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY! Live life to the fullest and ROCK ON!

How's it going fellow die hard hard core ZEPPELIN fanatics? I know that there are many more HEART fans out there that are just dying to post a comment on this thread. Come on, I'm looking forward to hearing from all of you. Please enlighten me. In the mean time, live life to the fullest and ROCK ON!

How's it going "Mangani?" It sounds tempting doesn't it? I bet that there was a whole lotta male groupies around Ann and Nancy, they had many to choose from. Ha Ha! I just got home from partying all night! I'm still drunk and I had better get my ass to my spinning bed and room and get some sleep. Believe it or not, I sleep better when the bed and ceiling spins. I just count the times that the bed and ceiling spins and I fall asleep like a baby. Oh well! Live life to the fullest and ROCK ON!

To be honest I always got the impression that they weren't like that. Ann especially seems to have been a romantic and was a 'relationship' type lady who didn't sleep around.

I hope the truth wasn't the opposite.

LIVE REVIEW

Casino Rama, Ontario - May 14, 2009

By JANE STEVENSON - Sun Media

RAMA, Ont. - It may have been 36 years since Seattle sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson formed the border-straddling Heart in Vancouver, but the pioneering rock band has aged incredibly well judging from their show at Casino Rama on Thursday night.

Taking the stage in darkness as their female keyboardist played them on, Nancy, 55, emerged first with an electric-blue guitar slung around her shoulders, before Ann, 58, came up the middle, dressed in head to toe black, all velvet and sequins.

"Hope you are feeling great, if not you will be soon - hopefully," said Ann, who like Nancy, still sports the curly shag haircut they both made popular in the '70s.

It's important to point out that Heart hasn't released a studio record since 2004's Jupiter's Darling and Ann only just released her first solo album, 2007's Hope & Glory, consisting mostly of covers and featuring guest appearances by Elton John, Alison Krauss, k.d. lang, Wynonna Judd, Gretchen Wilson, Rufus Wainwright, Shawn Colvin, and Deana Carter.

Still, the show was just shy of a sell-out and a couple hundred people immediately gathered at the front of the stage as the Wilson sisters, who were among the first women rockers with full creative control, took the crowd through their best known songs of the '70s and '80s for the next 85 minutes.

The talented duo, who have sold 30 million albums, set the bar high back then and continue to do so today.

On the strength of Ann's huge voice, still one of the best sounding in rock if a little raspier these days, and Nancy's guitar playing and harmony vocals, they seemed like exotic creatures over three decades ago.

But, on Thursday night, the Wilsons - the only two remaining original members of Heart - just seemed perfectly at home on stage, particularly with the help of lead guitarist Craig Bartock.

Highlights were varied like the classic guitar rock of Magic Man and Straight On, with Bartock expertly handling the stop-start aspect of the former song; the vocal-driven Never; and the folk-influenced Love Alive and Mistral Wind with Nancy opening both with acoustic guitar intros and Ann playing flute on the former.

"Very nice, very nice, some of you are brave," said Ann after a spirited singalong to Never.

Heart even threw in Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song (also a track on Hope & Glory) and Going To California, and lent their flair to The Who's Love Reign O'er Me.

And despite the crowd eating these up, the hard rock shout-outs were hardly necessary given Heart's own wealth of hits. (Truthfully, The Who song was a better fit with Ann's dramatic voice and Nancy flailing and jumping around the stage.)

"Well, I think it's time we burned down this barn," said Nancy, who took over on lead vocals on yet another cover - Tom Petty's You Wreck Me to which she added some lyrics from The Beatles' Polythene Pam.

And even if the version didn't exactly accomplish that, Nancy's voice - which pales in comparison to Ann's powerhouse instrument - was much improved on the next song, These Dreams, for which she also played mandolin.

Still, that ballad was no match for the chills-inducing power ballad, Alone, with Ann really letting it rip vocally, and bringing the entire crowd to its feet, and the chugging guitar anthem, Barracuda, with Ann's vocals and Bartock's playing finally inspiring some serious air-punching.

Not to be outdone, Nancy did her best acoustic guitar playing during the opening to the show-ending Crazy On You, adding a little of The Beatles' While My Guitar Gently Weeps, before Ann stole the show again with her magnificent voice.

"That is Ann Wilson," said Nancy, pointing to her sister near the end of the night.

"They don't grow those on trees - they don't drop out of the sky."

Truer words were never spoken.

SET LIST:

Wild Child

Magic Man

Never

Straight On

Love Alive

Mistral Wind

Immigrant Song

You Wreck Me

These Dreams

Love Reign O'er Me

Barracuda

Heart is that band that got me into Zeppelin. I am 38, I grew up with Heart being a major part of my teenage music lifestyle. They are the female Zeppelin. The only thing that is the differnece between Heart and Zep, is that Heart does not Jam in thier sets currently, they play by the numbers. Only in the 70's did they Jam a lot.

Heart can really ride a heavy groove when they want to. Just because they are girls, don't mean that they can't rock. Devlis Delight is thier take on When the Levee breaks. Barracuda is bassically the child of ALStand and Immigrant Song. Crazy on you is Babe IGL you. Magic Man is FYLife, BeBe Le Strange is Kashmir/Black Dog.

Ann Wilson is the Female Robert Plant, just As Stevie Nicks is the female Rod Stewert. Nancy Wilson is the female Jimmy Page on Acoustics. Nancy does not do the crazy solos electrically like Page does. She would be more like Malcom Young from AcDc.

If you get a chance, see them. They really put on a great set.

Heart standout songs are Barracuda, Crazy on you, Magic Man.

I have always like Heart. I saw them in concert in the 80's or early 90's when I lived in KS. They are coming to the IL State Fair in Sept. I am going to try to get tickets. My Mom (believe it or not) wants to go too when I told her they were going to be there. She is in her 70's but had to listen to the all the late 60's and 70's music my older brothers played back then! She also likes Pink Floyd! LOL!

How's it going "Led Zep Gurl?" It sounds to me that you and your mom have great tastes in music. After all, anyone that loves the mighty LED ZEPPELIN along with bands such as PINK FLOYD and HEART, has to have great tastes in music. I hope that you you do go see HEART live and take your Mom with you. That would be special indeed. Please keep me informed. In the mean time, take care and ROCK ON!

I ordered tickets this morning right when they went on sale. I am not a fan of going to the State Fair but I really wanted to see them again and the tickets were only $25 a pc. plus TicketMaster handling fees but it was only $61 total for 2 tickets which is cheap I think. The concert isn't till August 22. I called my Mom after I ordered them and suprised her about her going. She is happy and excited to be going.

The first concert I ever went was Peter Frampton back in 1978 (I think). I was Sophmore or Jr. in High School. My Mom wanted to go with me and my friends! LOL! I told her she couldn't go with us!

She wanted to go to hear Frampton's music but me being the normal teenager didn't want my Mom tagging along!

I believe there's at least one fan of the The Decemberists on here that would appreciate it. I'm still pretty unfamiliar with most of their work but I did enjoy Colin Meloy's contribution to the last full length Minus Five record.

How's it going "Jahfin?" I get the feeling that HEART'S music is going to be recorded and sung by many more bands in the coming future. HEART did set a new level for all new female bands that came afterward, the results up to now speaks for itself. ROCK ON!
