TypeO
Has anyone seen this movie? Across The Universe I used to listen to the Beatles as a kid because my older brothers had the albums, so I've always known most of the songs. Oddly enough, I think Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band was my favorite album. I say "oddly" because I was around 8 years old when I heard it, and the obvious drug-related references and whatnot were completely lost on me. Anyway, I liked a lot of Beatles songs, yet by the time I hit my teens and truly got into rock music, the Beatles seemed old and before my time. I do remember seeing Ed Sullivan, and the screaming girls, so I had a basic understanding and appreciation for their impact, but I wasn't much of a fan. In fact, by the time I was 18-21 I can remember absolutely dreading the "Beatles Weekends" the various radio stations would play. As I've gotten older, I've regained my appreciation, and I like hearing some songs now and then. Still, not really a fan. So it was rather surprising when I ran across this movie on Starz, and when I read the brief synopsis on the digital cable guide decided to watch it. No fan of musicals, I still found myself interested in the method they used of incorporating the storyline to the various songs. The neatest thing is how I was affected by some of the songs I remember liking. No spoilers, but 3 songs specifically really touched me in one way or another - All My Lovin', Let It Be, and Across The Universe. Bottom line, this movie is really worth a watch for anyone, and I can't imagine a Beatles fan not enjoying it. Give it a try, and report back here! Of course, if you HAVE seen it, I'd really love to hear your opinions!
Angel With A Broken Wing
I've seen it within the past 8 months but I have such a poor memory that I can't remember any details though I did enjoy it well enough. A good one to watch with your kids; my daughter liked it but not nearly as much as she likes Yellow Submarine (which she views at least once a year) or Tommy. ninelives
Yes - I thought it was interesting and some of the versions of the songs were well done.
lzfan715
Oh I loved it. One of my favourite movies. I love Jim Sturgess. He was really good in 21 too.
MightyZep
What about that scene where Prudence sings I Wanna Hold Your Hand at the football field. One of the best!
TypeO
What about that scene where Prudence sings I Wanna Hold Your Hand at the football field. One of the best! Loved it I think "Let It Be" was probably the most moving scene of the entire movie, and one of my favorite movie scenes ever at this point. It gets me choked up even thinking about it. And, of course, "All My Lovin’" I just thought was so awesome and appropriate - it's a Beatles song I've always liked anyway.
