I thank the man upstairs for giving me an open mind to like and appreciate aspects of all styles of music from Punk to Classical and everything in between. KISS to me is a warm tie to my Childhood and I make no bones about it.

This. KISS was the first band I was ever into as a kid (early 90's). The first album I was ever obsessed with was Alive II. The makeup, the gate fold that showed the stage with the all the fireworks and drum riser...just pure epicness. Listening to it now, sure the lyrics are pure cheese....but Ace is a guitar god and Paul is one of the best front men ever.

I can understand being turned off by KISS' current state and the commercialism....but to accuse KISS to be fake and in it for the merch from the beginning is just plain wrong.

I saw a feature on the CBC. It appears that KISS'S show at the Calgary Saddledome is cancelled..the facility was severly damaged by the recent flood....correct me if I'm wrong....

The only 2 songs I have ever liked by Kiss were Domino and Love It Loud - I actually don't own an album by them, never really understood them, but I might give it another try

Kiss Now Have Their Own Pro Football Team

by Matthew Wilkening August 16, 2013 6:53 AM

Kiss founders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons are now among the owners of a professional football team, which will be called the LA Kiss and will use the band’s famous logo on their helmets. We can only imagine what the uniforms are going to look like.

This does not represent the long-awaited return of the National Football League to Los Angeles. Instead, the team will be part of the Arena Football League, which for the last 26 years has provided an indoor, summer-scheduled version of America’s favorite sport. The league’s smaller field results in a faster pace of play and higher scoring games.

“The whole idea of an alternative to what has perhaps become a corporate sport is very intriguing, and resonates with us,” Stanley explained to USA Today. “We’ve always tried to be a band that relates to everybody, and the AFL is built on that whole premise.”

The LA Kiss will start playing at the Honda Arena in Anaheim in March of 2014. Season ticket holders will be treated to a free Kiss concert at some point next year, and Simmons says the band will bring their unique brand of showmanship to the games themselves as well. “It’s exciting beyond anything that we’ve thought about before… it’s going to be that kind of in-your-face entertainment, whether you’re a football fan or not.”

Once you get past the typical “what are they selling now?” response to this latest Kiss co-branding venture, the deal actually makes a lot of sense. The band has tens of thousands of fans in every city in America. If this works right, every road game will be at least partially a home game, with new fans attending the event decked out in what’s sure to be a parade of Kiss-themed sporting gear. At a certain point, you just have to applaud the absurdity of it all, right?

Is it the original lineup? (with Ace and Peter?)

No, it's the same lineup as shown in the Zurich telecast (Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Tommy Thayer & Eric Singer).

Thanks; I haven't followed them in years and saw that the makeup/costumes were similar to Ace and Peter.

More than similar....Gene owns the rights to the make-up designs now and will put whomever is playing guitar and percussion in those designs, as he sees fit. Apparently there is a new interview out with Gene calling out Peter and Ace as life-long "losers".

From Rolling Stone

Ace Frehley and Peter Criss recently published memoirs, and they both made you out to be the bad guy. Do you feel like the bad guy?

I am the bad guy. I won't stand for drunks and alcoholics, who get up on stage and consider it their birthright. I consider it a privilege to get up there and arrive on time and be sober, and I'll be an asshole to anybody who thinks otherwise. You know who else is an asshole? Your teacher was an asshole. Your parents are assholes. Your drill sergeant was an asshole. Because they wouldn't let you get away with shit. Ace and Peter have had a lifetime of being losers. And not just with drugs and alcohol. They're losers because of wrong decisions. You sleep in the bed you make. How many chances in life do you get? They were in and out of the band three different times. Why should they get another chance?

I never understood the entire Kiss army thing, it always struck me as a bit gay, And it's their call, but coffins and that sort of thing with Kiss logo's always struck me as the opposite extreme of doing it right - but the flipside is that they wanted money, And we all want money, and I guess Gene has made sure his family has been taken care of from the bank account point of view so good for him. But I have been asked to do things, and I always tried to live by my own moral code, so I guess Gene has lived his code.

I'm not a big fan of Gene, but in this instance....he's right!

Loser is a very subjective term. If it was soley based on drug and alcohol abuse, it would agree. Gene has a lot of skeletons in his closet too, just not the same ones as Peter and Ace do.

@Walter: G

Gene is disappointed in Peter & Ace, and rightfully so.

@Charles:

Apparently you don't understand the Kiss Army phenomena. As for merchandising, Gene's vision of Kiss is that of a rock and roll brand.
