People are actually gonna walk away from this show..

Recommended Posts

.. thinking that they really saw Led Zeppelin. And that bothers me a little.

From what I understand, 25% of the experience of seeing the real Zeppelin was experiencing John Bonham play the drums live. The other 75% was allocated evenly amongst the other musicians.

I am as excited to see this show as the next guy, but walking out of the arena, I am not gonna walk away thinking I actually saw the Led Zeppelin -- I saw an aged Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and John Paul Jones perform Zeppelin music with Jason Bonham.

That is all.

None of us can turn back the clock, but there is a value in living in the moment, so appreciate what you have and celebrate it. Your glass is half full, and this is a wonderful gift for the season.

??? why is this thread retarded? I just watned to see if people agreed with me or disagreed with my valid argument.

I personally think you are retarded if you walk away truly believing you saw Led Zeppelin. Is it gonna be amazing? Yes. Is it gonna be full of enregy? Of course. It is gonna be a night everyone will remember forever? Sure it will. But its not seeing Led Zeppelin --- and I think all 4 of the members on that stage Monday night would agree.

I think they are just calling it Led Zeppelin for marketing purposes. What else are they gonna call it, ya know. Plus they are gonna need to call it that when they start selling tickets for thier shows in America.

1. Why is this thread R****d.....because you started it <_<

2.Why must you say that word in a thread, that isn't nice, making out that people on here are slow etc! To me that word is more offensive than F*ck!!

3.I just watned to see if people agreed with me or disagreed with my valid argument.....Well you got your wish, as people have said their piece but as they do not agree with you..you are going off and insulting the people who have replied to your original thoughts.

4.I think they are just calling it Led Zeppelin for marketing purposes...I dissagree, if led Zeppelin the name wanted to screw us for every penny they would of reformed years ago when they could of named their price !! Also if they did use it for marketing then that would be for raising money for the trust and not their pockets, they don't need anymore !!

5. Think before you post and insult !!

Anytime Page, Plant, JPJ hit a stage...together OR by themselves the name Led Zeppelin will be loosly thrown around. It's inevitable. I really don't care at this point. Just as long as they don't create new music under that moniker I'm ok with it. There are countless imitators, only 4 originators. (someone on pg 1 of this thread said the drums are the least important part of a band......I'm sorry, maybe w/ other bands, not with Zep)

My only hangup is that the timing of TSRTS/Mothership, and the endless rumors and speculation are overshadowing what this whole event is all about. It's a tribute to Ahmet Ertegun....a man that has more importance to modern music than any of these speculating kids will ever realize. Had Zep not found him, they very well may have been forced to sign with some company insisting on full artistic control and the band as we know and love them, and this board might not even exist today! It's Ahmet's night......the images projected on London's buildings should be of him, not Zep!!! That is my true feeling.

I'm also glad it won't be filmed/broadcasted because, like the Live Aid set, I don't want the name Led Zeppelin to have this show branded as it's official last. It will be recorded and filmed......by attendees in stealth, and I'll be fine with hearing/seeing those. I'm thrilled for those who are going, I made no real attempts. I've seen them before, Page 7 more times, Plant about the same, and JPJ 3 more. I'm content w/ my momories and was'nt about to fly from the US for a concert. I do however fully understand the will and enthusiasm of those who are.

Let's just sit back, let it take place, and we'll enjoy hearing the stories of those who were in attendance of this event.

In response to the topic of the moment! I saw The Who approximately a year ago, and although Keith and John are no longer with us it was still The Who! Pete, Roger and Co. put on a high energy and totally professional performance! I've seen the Stones four times in the last 15 years and true there is no Bill Wyman or Brian Jones they are still great and so energetic! If this was a reunion of some second rate act playing the casino circuit the question comment would not even come up! Those fortunate enough to attend the 02 show will see three of the most talented musicians on earth, plus the more than able son of the missing fourth member! They will see the greatest guitarist on earth pulling out all the stops and the only three men capable of keeping up with him! They will see Led Zeppelin 2007 edition and will leave totally amazed!!

I would not have used the word retarded had it not been said originally by Night Flight in his response to me. I agree, its not a good word to use and its not funny in the least bit to make fun of someone because of the way God made them. I have a friend who has Downe's and is by definition "retarded" and I just think people should think twice before they use it. So you are right there. It is, however, nonetheless just a word.

How on earth do you interpret me saying they use something for marketing purposes as me suggesting they are trying to screw people for every penny?!!? They are NOT in this case. However, if you dont think like a Zep fanatic for a second and really consider the latest releases of Mothership and TSRTS, your opinion in that regard may change a bit.

This show is NOT 100% about the Ahmet Trust. It is a good portion of the reason show, but not all of it. Take into account all that is going on in the zep world over the last couple months. They are going to tour America or at least play a good handful of dates here.

 Of course its bloody Led Zeppelin!

Its not like Bonzo is still alive & able to play and they are snubbing him.

Life goes on.

& it's his son standing in for him for f**ks sake!

As I think someone pointed out- if Bonzo had lived & zep had continued to this day making records & touring, many many things would have changed.

Are people going to be seeing Zep in the 70's? NO. because its 2007.

Are they going to be seeing Led Zeppelin? O YES.

but not me (no ticket).

Anytime...(edit)

Honeydripper, your thoughts mirror my own all the way through. John Bonham was an

indispensible component of Led Zeppelin; he was The Kingpin who made whatever they wrote work. This was self-evident to all parties concerned on December 4th 1980. To

say the passing of 27 years diminishes the loss is insulting; he remains gone forever.

You're definitely getting the real Led Zeppelin for this event, as close to the original as you are ever going to have on December 10. Just be grateful and happy, and no whining, please.

I am more than grateful and am not WHINING, but just started a thread to see what others think. That's in part what message boards are for

me and a buddy are were talking about this a week ago and decided there are only 3 rock and roll bands that is you take one member away, its NOT them.

- Led Zeppelin

- The Beatles

- Cream

i was thinking of Floyd but, first off they toured after Roger left, and I think while they are great musicians, you could take away either Dave Mason or Rick Wright and it would still be Floyd as long as the other three are there.

But as for completely irreplaceable, its Zep, beatles, and Cream. Without one member, its not REALLY them.

So..on Monday night am I watching Led Zeppelin ? kind-of-Led Zeppelin ? nearly-Led Zeppelin ? almost-Led Zeppelin ? well-yeah-it's-them-but-they're-not-as-good-as-they-used-to-be, that's-only-their-drummer's-son, hell-you-should-have-seen-them-in-'73-Led Zeppelin ?

Real question; How much do I really care ?

Real answer; Very little ! I'm going possibly the last ever live performance of some of the greatest rock music ever made, played by the surviving musicians of one of the finest bands ever.

This will be a moment in time.....

I'm really going to miss all this prattle after Dec 10.

What are we all going to talk about ?

So....you think they announced a one off show and did a worldwide lottery just to test the waters and see if there was still a viable market for them by dicking around people who are spending all their savings on flying halfway around the world to a concert when they could have sat at home and waited for the band to come to them?? Get real. They could very well have announced UK only ticket sales the day of the event and it would have sold out in minutes!!

Remember, the TSRTS reissue was in the works while Ahmet was still alive!

in addtion, John Bonham is my favorite musician to ever live and I believe he is one of the most naturally talented musicians that ever played an instrument.

So i did start this thread with a bit of a bias. But that's not to say that he wasn't the indisposable element of the band that he is known for.

I think everyone understands how important John Bonham was to Led Zeppelin and nobody is arguing the fact that he will always be sorely missed. If it were anyone other than Jason taking his place I think there would be more of us questioning calling this a Led Zeppelin concert. But let's be honest, I can envision Bonzo with a big shit eating grin on his face knowing that his son is filling in. And that's good enough for me.

If people were to dwell on the passing of a loved one the way some of you are reacting to this, then people would never re marry, or get another dog. It's a bit ridiculous in the grand scheme of things and life always goes on.

This isn't going to be officially filmed or recorded because it's all part of the Zeppelin hype. Such things are very strong signals that this will not be the last show. The Zep machine is rolling, and there's no way this is all happening without a blessing from all three members. Do you think Zep sanctioned their own XM station so Robert could hear 5 months of abuse about why he isn't on board once the O2 show is over ?.....and then go on tour with Allison Krause ? Lol, I don't think so. Even he wouldn't be silly enough to set himself up for such abuse.

I'm a Sirius subscriber....they've had Beatles channels, Stones channels, Who Channels, Dead channels, etc... they all come and go. It's more than likely that XM (and I'm sure Sirius wanted to get it as well) contacted them to strike the iron while it's hot. Not the other way around. XM payed them, that's for sure.

LZ is more than a band. It's a repertoir. It's a style of live performance, as Jimmy has described so clearly in his recent interviews. The tight but loose thing. The improv. That is what got me interested in Zeppelin as a live act. I was watching Youtube clips of JPJ playing Bonnaroo and it was great! I think if you get musicians who understand how to play in that mode, that it evokes the spirit of LZ.

I think enough mourning has taken place for John Bonham already! Don't get too hung up on the cult of personality. If the three of them feel Jason is worthy enough to assume the mantle, then it's no disrespect to John to accept them as the "new" Led Zeppelin. Given that Jimmy has said that Jason "understands" Zeppelin from the jamming perspective, I am optimistic. More optimistic than I would have been had someone like Michael Lee been filling in. Michael Lee was a great drummer in P/P but he was not a catalyst for improvisation. They have to be able to work as a true ensemble, to play off eachother as one single unit. I don't think that's ever really happened in any of their solo incarnations. Even P/P only touched on impromptu jamming. If they run through the numbers in an overly scripted fashion, like the Police did with their reunion, then I would not accept it as true LZ. It has to contain freeform unexpected elements.

Well don't copy others if you think its wrong !! you were saying we are Re***d !!

But I will confess that I didn't realise night flight said it even if I agreed with their post, so thats my fault for not picking up on it !!

I don't think TSRTS is a rip off as we are getting more footage and stuff !!! and we don't have to buy it !!

And to someone who said we are insulting the name of Bonzo is rubbish...This is Led Zeppelin 2007 it says so on the Gig flyer...lets get over it and enjoy the gig as its going to be the only one !!

Debate is good but insults no thanks :)

Whichever way, you want to look at it, and I have just seen the magic of Zeppelin on TV playing Whole lotta Love and John Henry Bonham with those strong arms pounding those drums, I am sure Jason will do his dad proud, I say bring it on,make it amazing, as only true zeppelin fans can appreciate.
