Pushin two yrs, nothin from Jimmy?

Recommended Posts

I am perplexed at the fact that almost two years after the reunion, Jimmy has done nothing? I mean as far as New Music/tour. He seemed so happy to be playing again and out there, and then nothing!!?? He's not getting any younger! I don't see why anyone his age would waste a minute?

Granted maybe he was let down by Robert passing on a tour, but he is the greatest guitarist of all time, I mean he can do anything he wants and I am sure people line up to play with him. It is just sooo frustrating being a Jimmy/Zeppelin fan after 1980!!!!

After the Atlantic reunion, things looked hot-nothin

After Knebworth 1990-nothin

They finally rock it in the 90's and now nothing.

Many less talentd musicians get out there and do it, but these guys drive me nuts!!!

I knew all of that ^ but still remain massively disappointed by his lack of musical output over the last few years.

You said it. And he is doing exactly what he wants now.

You can be confused, puzzled, angry and whatever, but you can do nothing. Maybe that is exactly the thing drives a lot fans mad.

Being a young'un and having never gotten to see Jimmy before, I now fear that I never will. :(

I second that, Knebby. Pretty long read only to come to the same conclusion.

Hope you're well. Been a while. I tread lightly on the board these days.

Most of that long list of Jimmy's activities ^ was pre-2007, moreover. And many of those activities were one-offs.

Given that clearly he could do more if he wanted to, it's hard not to come to the conclusion that he just deosn't want to. Which, as glicine said, is maddening.

Thanks for the hug. :D

It wouldn't be so bad if Jimmy wasn't my absolute #1 person I want to see the most. Why couldn't I have picked, like, The Rolling Stones or someone, who just never go away.

He would rather be in semi retirement then going on tour regularly right now. He deserves that right.

When I'm 65, I hope to be retired. I'll still do productive work....but it will be exactly what I want to do. The last thing I would want to do when I'm 65 and retired is worry about what others think I should be doing.

Pagey hasn't done "real work" since his teen years ... granted, with Zep he toured like hell late 1968-1972 (plus the Yardbird years), but after that, he's hardly "worked" in the sense you and I know "work" to be ... he hasn't had to worry about money for about 40 years now. How about you??

People joke that the Rolling Stones will tour until "Mick Jagger has gotten the very last penny from the very last sucker," but hey, at least they LOVE to perform live for their fans and put out music, albeit not nearly the creative peak it once was.

Does Page owe us anything? No. :suntan:

Do I wish he'd give MORE back to his fans? Yes. :elvis2:

Flame on ... :tomato:

Les Paul did not play in public from 1964-1974 as he stated he was disappointed with the music business. That was his choice and it was respected by others. Les came out live again in 1974 and hasn't stopped playing since. He just turned 94 this week.

Jimmy has his own reasons for not putting out anything new and that's personal to him. He's the one who has to stick his neck and balls out there for everyone to judge his writing and playing. I'm sure he remembers the warm reception he got for putting out Coverdale/Page , Outrider, WIC and the Firm releases.

If and when he wants to do it again he will. It's his choice. I'm not disappointed in Jimmy Page because I expect nothing from him.

Page's last 2 tours ended on a sour note if anyone wishes to recall. Robert's last minute exodus from the 1999 proposed tour and Jimmy's back situation with the Black Crowes in 2000 . Can't say that's got him real revved up to play Toledo.

I saw a clip from the recent RnR Hall of Fame, and when they were discussing Train Kept a Rollin, Jimmy declined to take part in the trade-off solos with Beck and Perry. I thought that said a lot. At least that's how I interpreted it, and it bummed me out.

If we can go back in time to the early 80's giving Jimmy some time to mourn the loss of Bonzo and look forward to the possibilities for the next 30 years would you be content with what he has put out during this span.

It would be impossible to live up to his legacy, but at the very least I would have hoped that he would be willing to play live without having to promote an album. Look at all those shows that Clapton plays at Albert Hall and the Allmans play in NYC. Why hasn't Jimmy played just for the sake of getting on stage and playing.

I think his ego will not allow him to tour "small" the way Robert has throughtout Europe during the past decade. Without the proper vehicle to tour "big" I think Jimmy feels trapped.

In any big jam setting, Jimmy's never been a huge " I gonna flame all these others " kind of guitarist. He was just being consistent with that approach. It would 've been great to hear him rip but it didn't happen. That's not indicative that he can't play anymore.

Eric Clapton is the lead vocalist in his own band.

Greg Allman is the lead vocalist in the Allman Brothers.

Robert Plant is the lead vocalist in his own band.

All of the above can perform any song in their own history without repercussion.

It's not an accurate comparison to Page's situation and it showed itself when there was a chance Page was going to play Zeppelin material without Robert. How dare he play his own music with someone else. The audacity of the man.

I didn't take it that way at all. I think Jimmy viewed it more as Jeff's day, and had no interest in taking the spotlight away from him in any form.

Oh come on that's so silly. The others soloed. If Jimmy didn't want to solo, fine, but I don't think we need to be making excuses for him!

I think the vast majority of people here have no problem whatsoever with Jimmy playing Zep music with another singer (calling the band Zep was another matter). We only wish he would.

I also think there's a difference between thinking, as others said in previous posts, that Jimmy owes us something and/or should not have the right to do whatever he likes, and simply being disappointed because he hasn't chosen to do more.

Did Jimmy actually say he didn't want do do a solo then? I've not seen a clip of them discussing the song. I've seen the footage of them performing Train Kept a Rollin where Jimmy seems to wimp out of taking a solo. Is that what you're referring to?
