I have got a horsey
Don't be surprisd if Warney makes a come back! Well as Richie Benaud once said "Shane Warne is the second greatest spin bowler of all time"

Come on England get your F..ing act together I wouldn't be too hard on your lads. It's not that they played badly, Australia's bowling was exceptional. You blokes lost arguably your best batsman (Pietersen) and Freddy, so it was always going to be a struggle. Bopara was hard done by, but that's Cricket. There's always a bad umpiring decision going against someone. Broad's going okay with the bat and I hope he has a decent dig. The last thing England should do is make wholesale changes. The Poms need the selectors to show them some faith and loyalty. The mark of a good player and / or team is the ability to bounce back from adversity. You always want the Pommies in the trenches with you. Makes for a great final showdown at The Oval.

Yes indeed but we cannot have excuses because our two best players are out, the only prob about the showdown now is that if it gets rained off or whatever, the drawn series is good for you and you retain them. If Flintoff is fit then I can expect him to at least put his life or knee on the line for the win.. We shaLL SEE

leddy
I can assure you Ponting won't be playing for a draw! I know he will not but if the weather plays up, it will be a dissaPONTING ending , we have lost the iniative now, but it s going to be good, as long as it goes to the last day, last ball even. TheZeppyWanderer
one-all then, as we knew it would be after about one hour of the first session. And that's a fair reflection of the series so far, in fact if truth be told Australia has definitely been the better side overall this series. And it's very difficult for England now - The Oval is a great batting track and we're therefore less likely to have a result. Still, you never know - Ashes history is choc full of drama, controversy and upsets. I genuinely believe we can still do it
Reggie29
Game on! The Poms have gotten off to a good start. I hope it goes the distance and not interrupted by rain. A draw and we retain The Ashes, Ponting would love a victory in his last test in The Old Dart!
leddy
I will pass judgement once Australia have their first bat, we should have some idea how it will pan out.
BUCK'EYE' DOC
I watched a game, or match, or whatever you call it, two Saturdays ago while in London. I must say, that I have no clue how this game of Cricket is played, how it is scored, what is good or bad, etc. I do understand what a Wicket is, though. But the Australians really humiliated England that weekend. Hundreds of points for the Aussies vs. a miniscule score for England. I don't understand a thing about it, LOL. Edited to say: The sport seemed pretty boring, kind of like baseball. People in the stands seemed kind of subdued. But the stands were packed, just the same. Any rowdiness go on at the games? And what is a Test? Edited August 21, 2009 by BUCK'EYE' DOC
Mangani
And what is a Test? A 'test match' is a cricket game played between two countries (England v Australia or India v Pakistan etc) which takes place over 5 days, although if the game is finished before the 5 days is up then so be it. Each side bats and bowls twice and the side with the highest score (adding the runs up from both innings) wins. Test matches are generaly considered the ultimate in cricket. leddy
Ok well I can now judge, after a wonderful display by Broad, England can be the only winners of this test match The Aussies will have bat to save the test match by the looks of things..Just hope the rain doesnt play a part of this as England need the win to regain The Ashes. Reggie29
500+ run chase in two days on an ever deteriorating wicket. Can the Aussies do it? A damn fine effort if they do, here's hoping! I'd much rather win but a draw will do.
leddy
2 wickets in 2 overs, The Ashes are coming home, England have played a blinder and after the debacle of the last test, this will go down in memory as good one. Very proud of them but untill the last wicket is blasted out of the ground I will refrain from gloating.

leddy
come on Broady !!!! Really proud of them, they showed real fight in the first test match to save it, and to come back from loosing the last test match and winning this and the Ashes is fantastic, when the Aussie pundets after the first test match gloated and said we couldn't win a match . Hats of to the Australians for a least making a game of it today , even though victory or a draw was out of the question. As Kevin Keegan once said " I would love it if we beat them...love it" England whrn they had their opportunities took them in this series and deserve it..Well done. Who on this board gloated about England not being able to win a match? We never play for a draw, better to go down fighting than just pad up a block. This is the first time in 100 years that the Poms have won back to back series "AT HOME"! Well done England the first thing we need to do is bring in new selectors, why they didn't pick at least one specialist spinner I'll never know. Anyway see you in Oz in about 18 months time. What odds England winning here?

Mangani
That was the attitude the Poms adopted last time they were here! Result: 5-0 Australia. Yeah and I hope they learn from it. Was just saying that 'technically' a drawn series would be enough for England to retain the Ashes, just as the match yesterday might have ended in a draw and Oz would have retained the Ashes at 1-1. Reggie29
Yeah and I hope they learn from it. Was just saying that 'technically' a drawn series would be enough for England to retain the Ashes, just as the match yesterday might have ended in a draw and Oz would have retained the Ashes at 1-1. It would have been nice but there is no better way to obtain or retain the Ashes than with a win. When we didn't pick a specialist spinner I had a bad feeling especially after the first day. Congratulations again to the Poms on a great win. Se ya in 2011!
leddy
Who on this board gloated about England not being able to win a match? Nobody on this board, I said pundits as in media, the one interview that stuck in the throat was done with pundits in Australia after the first test match. Arrogant beyond belief, but no not on here. I predicted 2-1 in an early posts so I will go for 3-1 to England in 2 years time. If our batsman had all pulled their weight I think it would have been more convincing for us, but a wins a win so I will take that. Both Strauss and pontings second innings were for me really what captains are all about, they were both determined, you could see it in their eyes. It went down to the final test match and that made it very exciting. Good to see we have gone up the rankings, we will be gunning for your spot in the rankings by the time we play you again. Now wheres my passport. Edited August 25, 2009 by leddy
