Kentuckygirl
Alison Krauss and Union Station will be performing at the White House next week. From Peter Cooper's column in the Tennessean: Brad Paisley, Alison Krauss and her Union Station band, 40 W.O. Smith School students and a Lockeland Elementary Design Center student will head to Washington next week for an audience with the Obamas. The occasion is Tuesday's "Country At The White House" workshop, a 2 p.m. event in which students from across the nation will learn about songwriting and about country music history, with Michelle Obama in attendance. Brad and Alison/Union Station will perform later, at a 7:30 p.m. concert that will include remarks from President Barack Obama. During the workshop, Lockeland Design student Sal La Rosa, a fourth-grader, will perform "The Girl In The Hallway" — a song he wrote with songsmith Gary Michael Smith as part of the Country Music Hall of Fame's Words & Music program. The whole shebang is part of Michelle Obama's White House Music Series, designed to encourage arts education. The series featured jazz music in June, and it will spotlight classical music in the fall. The Country Music Hall of Fame's Jay Orr will moderate a discussion during the workshop, and WSM-AM 650's Eddie Stubbs (a Grand Ole Opry announcer who got his on-air start in the Washington area) will serve as the performance emcee. The Country Music Association is underwriting the cost of the trip.
Melanie_72
This is very exciting news! It is a great thing they are doing with all of the kids. GAC (Great American Country) will be airing it as a special sometime next month. Can't wait to see and hear all about it.
