Jason Bonham: In The Name Of My Father

Recommended Posts

Anyone else got this CD?

I think it's a pretty darn good Zeppelin cover album and Jason is astounding on drums. I think in the case of other Zeppelin covers the drums are always lacking something.

The bassist and guitarist are good and put their own spin on the songs, the singer all right but he seems more like Steven Tyler than Robert Plant.

I have this l.p. and got it when it came out on compact disc in 1997. It was released on a record company that Michael Jackson started and owned called MJJ Music. It only lasted a couple of years...there is a follow up studio l.p. that was released by The Jason Bonham Band as well the following year. I have not heard that one though. I do wish that the concert was filmed though...I know of no evidence that it was.

I actually saw this tour in a local rock club. Show was awesome. Jason played with a ice cooler (that could hold a case of beer) just to the left of his drum kit. He would reach down for a fresh brew after every couple of songs and wash it down in 2 or 3 gulps.

He hung out after the show. Remember this hot chick having him sign a copy of his Airrace (former band) album. He was a little overwhelmed with all the attention. Seemed like he just wanted to hang, and here he was getting ALMOST smothered with attention. He took it as well as someone in that situation could.

He was either on the local rock radio station the day before or maybe the day after -- my memory is dazed about this. But he showed up for the early morning show still up from the night before. The DJ remarked to him that he thought Jason was gonna eventually kill himself if he didn't cool down, as Jason was drinking cola drinks, beers, and cups of coffee all throughout the interview (and who knows what else). They had a small kit in the studio and he just whaled on them, yelling out like his old man would do.

Glad to hear he's a little more cleaner/healthier now.

I also saw Jason Bonham and his band at a small club in East St. Louis, Illinois. Me and my friend won tickets from the St. Louis, Missouri great radio station, KSHE 95. When we got there, the place was half empty. However, Me and my friend were at the very front of the small stage jamming to every song. I was drinking Budweiser bottles and Captain Morgan and Coke mixed drinks. I remember giving the guitar player alot of the Marlboros I was smoking and buying and giving them the same drinks I was drinking. Literally, right in front of me. It was a great night and a great show (from what I remember now).

I couldn't find a thread for Jason but since this was about how nervous he gets before shows since he is John's, son I figured it would be in a small way related!

Nice article, kiss of fire! Thanks for posting it.

I can understand Jason being nervous, playing with JPJ, JP, and RP at the O2 Tribute Concert.

And, with performing before them and having other accomplished drummers offering critiques, that would give anyone a case of the nerves.

But he was great, and I hope that he knows how much he is appreciated by us Zeppelin fans. smile.gif

Great album!!! Saw my friend's band, Evergreen open for them and later met Jason, Chas, John Smithson and Tony Catania that night, too!!! Jason and I talked with some friends until the late/early hours of the next day about his dad, his tattoo (3 rings), his love of motorcycle riding, traveling, etc...
