I was born and grew up in Glendale and was lucky enough too see Van Halen play many times before they hit it big. what a great time to grow up in LA! Yeah, that must have been cool indeed ! We did have a ton of great bands in Vancouver but not many ever got the chance to have their stuff hit the airwaves. That changed in the mid 70's when the CRTC ( regulatory body ) insisted that 10% of all music played on Canadian radio had to be Canadian content. At the time, I can remember thinking that it was a crap law but plenty of Canadian acts have found deserved success because of it. Mind you, there has been some crap allowed to filtre through as well. The sad thing is though, so many of the great acts from the mid to late 60's had already given up hope and just faded away.
