Strider
Memorial Day Cinema. I have the utmost respect for the submarine crews. No way I would've wanted to be on one of those tin cans. Don Rickles! 😮 Edited May 25, 2020 by Strider

It's funny as I am reading a short story from WW2 written by a nurse who was on on Corregidor and how 10 of them there were taken to Australia via an American sub. She said that with the temps inside the sub it was like being in a steam bath.
Strider
The conclusion of my Memorial Day marathon. Three World War I ( "The Great War") movies. Two were directed by Frank Borzage..."Seventh Heaven" and "A Farewell to Arms". "A Farewell to Arms" and "All Quiet On the Western Front" are probably the most known to people, but the 1927 silent "Seventh Heaven" will reward those who have the patience for silent movies. The war scenes make quite an impact...especially for the time it was made.
LedZeppfan1977
I guess Cuomo wants to bring back the drive in movies in full glory? Not sure it will happen? Some big movies are slated this year. I am looking forward to Hanks movie, I think its Greyhound? WWII movie, at sea. Also looking forward to the sequel to the Passion of the Christ with Mel Gibson directing and Jim Caviezel back in the role of Jesus. Also, Fatima is coming out. I know that Harvey Kietel is in it. What did you think of "Touch of Evil"? Plenty of good lines in that movie. 30 years after making her debut Marlene Dietrich was still knocking 'em dead. Poor Janet Leigh never had any luck with roadside motels. Edited May 28, 2020 by Strider
Strider
It was John Wayne's birthday May 26, so we've started watching John Wayne movies....ones my nephew has not seen before. He watched his first Wayne movie a few weeks ago..."True Grit". I find it sad that The Duke doesn't get much love from the younger generation. He doesn't have the cool cachet that Humphrey Bogart does with younger folk. These are two of John Wayne's best...and each one sporting a terrific cast! Yeah, her song was the hi-lite of the film with great photography to match the tune.

Another is the Eiger Sanction, very underrated. And of course Beguiled (that was directed by Don Siegel).

I really liked Touch of Evil. I was thinking the same thing about Janet Leigh...lol. it's pretty amazing when you think of the directors she has worked with.. Wells , Hitchcock and John Carpenter during her role in The Fog.

Strider
Two very divergent approaches to documenting the Rolling Stones 1972 S.T.P. American Tour. If you want the music, go with "Ladies & Gentlemen, the Rolling Stones". If you want groupies and drugs and high society assholes like Truman Capote and Lee Radziwill, "Cocksucker Blues" is your ticket. Followed by two movies with Mick Jagger's paramours of the time. 1968's "The Girl on a Motorcycle" has the incredibly lovely Marianne Faithfull riding a lovely Harley-Davidson Electra Glide filmed by the great cinematographer Jack Cardiff ( "Red Shoes", "Black Narcissus"). It is totally a product of the Mod Sixties so proceed with caution. Your patience may be tested. The first movie to receive an X rating in the U.S. It's quite tame by today's standards. Next up, Mick and Anita Pallenberg (who had left Brian Jones for Keith Richards) get freaky with James Fox and some anemic French bird in "Performance" .Filmed in 1968 but because Warner Brothers got cold feet because of the sex and violence it was not released until 1970, after the 1969 tour had made the Rolling Stones a cause célèbre. One of those movies that you should see at least once, whether you like it or hate it, because of the influence it had later on. It also stands as Mick Jagger's best non-concert film to date.I Edited June 14, 2020 by Strider

That's really cool. I'll have to check out the book. I just missed getting Eric Burdon's autograph on his book a couple years ago. Talked with the band, but Eric had already left the building. redrum
Posted this in 'Random Thoughts.' I got about 1/2 way through this until I got to the point where I couldn't stand to hear this phrase anymore: 'You know wut I'm sayin?' 'You know wut I'm sayin?' 'You know wut I'm sayin?' 'You know wut I'm sayin?' 'You know wut I'm sayin?' 😣
