Granted it's the most accessible of all their works and the most well-known, but even the band says it's not their best - they say that title goes to Wish You Were Here.

That's interesting because I have read quotes where the members thought on Dark Side... was where the band created their best as a band. I know they don't have much good to say about "Have A Cigar" being sung by Roy Harper - Roger and David have said they didn't know why or how they came to that decision back then. A lot of pressure surrounded the recording of Wish You Were Here.

I prefer the band's albums from The Piper at the Gates of Dawn to The Wall. The Final Cut is more of Roger's solo project than a group effort, and while I like the music they put out after Roger left, I don't really consider it to be Pink Floyd. See what I mean?

Currently my fave Pink Floyd song, "San Tropez" from Meddle:

As I reach for a peach

Slide a rind down behind

the sofa in San Tropez

Breaking a stick with a brick on the sand

Riding a wave in the wake of an old Sedan

Sleeping alone in the drone of the darkness

Scratched by the sand that fell from our love

Deep in my dreams and I still hear her calling

If you're alone I'll come home

Backwards and home bound

The pidgeon the dove

Gone with the wind and the rain on an airplane

Owning a home with no silver spoon

I'm drinking champaigne like a big tycoon

Sooner than wait for a break in the weather

I'll gather my far flung thoughts together

Speeding away on a wind to a new day

If your alone I'll come home

And I pause for a while

By a country style

And listen to things they say

Digging for gold in the hoe in my hand

Hoping they'll take a look at the way things stand

And you're leading me down to the place by the sea

I hear your soft voice calling to me

Making a date for later by phone

if you're alone I'll come home

I know...I'm weird.

Weird, you say, PageMcCartney.

I don't know, we're all here because we admire a band that broke up 29 years ago. Some say that's weird. :o At least that's what people have told me.

I find no weirdness in you at all. :D

I'm out of here at 10! I'll log on later when I get home. Adios! ROCK ON FOREVER!

That's not weird at all! It's my wife's fav. song by them too.

Love some of the Barrett stuff: Lucifer Sam (about his roommates' cat), See Emily Play, the great riff in Interstellar Overdrive and his final Floyd song Jugband Blues. Good stuff!

I don't have one particular album I favor over others, it's impossible for me to choose just one. There are however, albums I DON'T care for. Right now I've been listening to The Division Bell a lot because I just got it on vinyl and it's such a great record. Last week it was Animals, next week it might be Saucer. Who knows.

BTW, I noticed no one here has talked about Obscured by Clouds. What a shame, it's better than a lot of their earlier stuff and stands up well to their later works. Burning Bridges is in the top 5 all-time Floyd songs.

Unfortunately, my fandom came around after they stopped making music together....mostly because I was born in 1982, but I got into them on my own. Heard Comfortably Numb on the radio once, begged my dad for the album it came on....he bought me the cassette. Ironically enough, as much as I dislike 95% of The Wall, it's the only Floyd album I own on 4 mediums: vinyl, cassette, CD and mp3.

Well, now I will now that you've mentioned it! I LOVE THE OBSCURED BY CLOUDS album from 1972. I love the songs "Obscured By Clouds," "Burning Bridges," "The Gold It's In The...," "WOTS...Uh The Deal," Mudmen," "Childhood's End," "Free Four" and "Absolutely Curtains" just to name a few. Hell Electrophile, I love all of the songs on this album. ROF my dear!

Obscured by Clouds is a very good album. I love "Free Four". I'm not sure why, though.
