You know the most rock spawning countries were/is the US, Great Britain, Canada, but I thought I'd create this thread to show how much more good rock came from other countries. All the bands are from the time period as indicated from the title, if you want to contribute or discuss feel free. Mexico: There was heavy censorship in Mexico at this time, most of the albums by these artists are forgotten, this is my personal tribute to the best Mexican rock. zookie85
I guess you´re right. Every country has good and bad bands, I think. For example the Scorpions are also very famous and they are from Germany. Then there are Rammstein, Tokio Hotel (I´m not a fan), Beatsteaks etc.. zdr
Europe\Romania - PHOENIX "Formed in the 1962 it began by doing covers of Beatles songs. However, they soon had to change their style since the Romanian communist regime disliked any form of western culture. The communist regime suggested that all rock oriented bands should look for inspiration within the Romanian culture. These restricions made the band's leader Nicolae Covaci search within the Romanian folklore, which gave them a unique sound". So: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7D3HvDOjmCM&feature=related (they made in 1975 an album called "Cantafabule", about the heraldic beasts. This is the opening song, called "Invocation") http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdMjQ_69ghE (the soundtrack of this video is a 1974 song) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7lm4AWmFi0&feature=related (this is about going home: "nevermind, we'll make it after all") http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXmm9g88E0k&feature=related (this is about the morning sun, who is ruining the sleep ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZ4kJMUVJVg&feature=related (this is called "The Canary" - about the bird in the cage, who can't break free. But the band finally made it, escaping in 1977 to Germany, hidden in theirs amplifiers boxes) ( Sorry for the long comment, but I couldn't help it! I love this band so much!) Joao
I don't know that much about rock music in my country during the 60's and 70's I was only born in 1986. We had a dictatorship from the 30's to 1974, so there wasn't that many rock musicians, it was after the revolution, a peaceful one only 6 people killed by the secret police on that day, that Portuguese rock music started to really develop especially fueled by the punk movement. Jorge Palma: He's famous for his songwriting and he's more of a folk-rock or folk artist. Sheiks: They're one of the first bands if not the first Portuguese band of rock music, they have a very 60's sound, they were and still are known as the Portuguese Beatles. José Cid: This guy has played and sang a lot of different styles but he's best known internationally for his progressive rock albums solo and with the band Quarteto 1111. 10,000 Anos Depois Entre Venus E Marte is a very rare and known album to the progressive rock fans. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeSKfVpLtEY

Joao
Coooool stuff! I like it a lot! Especially the first and third videos. Yeah I'm a bit surprised myself! It's a whole era of rock that has been very much forgotten. For us, the newer generation, we take as a fact that rock in Portugal began in the early 80's, but that's just not true. Rock N' Rollin' Man
I found another video of Color Humano, it's their song Hace Casi 2000 Años. Color Humano is one of my top favorites, and not just from the bands I've listed. Here's a video of Almendra, it's the band that came before Color Humano in which Edelmiro Molinari was in. Read their bio, view pictures, and listen to more songs in their myspace. http://www.myspace.com/colorhumanorock

_Lena_Zep
Former Yugoslavia & Co. Siluete (The Silhouettes) Serbian beat band from Belgrade formed in 1961. Active throughout 60s and 70s. Siluete were the first rock band in former Yugoslavia. They shooked whole country with long hairs and vandalism on their concerts, while their leader Zoran Miščević became first mega-star getting hundreds of letters every day. Bijelo Dugme - errr... White Buttons (Bosnia & Herzegovina) they were/are extremely popular here. They formed in the 70s. EKV aka Ekatarina Velika - breathtaking band. They were the most active during the 80s. I think all the members are dead now. I found one of their songs, in English ( ):
