PhxHorn
Sorry if this has been covered before: I was looking through some old interviews recently and saw at least two references from Jimmy in '88 and '90 in which he said his follow-up to Outrider was in the works. An 1990 interview in Musician magazine stated that it was 2/3 written, but he was taking time to remaster the Zep box set. So what happened to it? Did the material end up on the Coverdale album? SteveAJones
Coverdale/Page was essentially all new, all original material. Absolution Blues was written the first day, Feeling Hot the second, which they thought would be a great opener for a live show (though it was never used as an opener). Those as well as an additional eight songs were written during daily 10am to 3pm sessions at David's home near Lake Tahoe in 1991. Jimmy suggested they holiday in Barbados, and while there they wrote Pride And Joy, which they considered calling Barbados Boogie. Six additional songs did not make the album, including Good Love, Saccharin and Southern Comfort. Jimmy said the opening riff for Shake My Tree dated back to the In Through The Out Door Sessions, but he hadn't used it then. Seems to me Jimmy has claimed to have new material written nearly every year for the past ten years.

SteveAJones
Or is that 20 years? Nearly ten years by my watch. The Page/Plant era ('94-'98) produced new material as well as Jimmy's rehearsals with Michael Lee in Summer '99 for what became an aborted third Page/Plant album. One song, Domino, was performed at Net Aid that Autumn. IMGL does feature new material, 'Embryo 1' and 'Embryo 2'.
Walter
Jimmy said the opening riff for Shake My Tree dated back to the In Through The Out Door Sessions, but he hadn't used it then. During the acoustic soloing Jimmy did during Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp ('77 acoustic set) you can hear that Shake My Tree riff developing. I never heard the complete riff, but in some versions the riffling style soloing sounded very close to it. That is the first time I have read where he developed that riff. Interesting, thanks Steve. Interesting response. If someone could perhaps pinpoint a specific passage of a specific show to listen to I'd like to give it a go. Conduct a comparison. kdh
What happened is that Mr. Page had more interest in his personal life than his musical career when it came down to releasing a 2nd solo album. One and done.
georgio
I know it sounds like blasphemy, but Page hasn't written anything solid since the Firm's second album and Coverdale-Page...
Evster2012
I know it sounds like blasphemy, but Page hasn't written anything solid since the Firm's second album and Coverdale-Page... Outrider certainly had some standout moments, in fact I prefer it to Coverdale Page. Of course that's just one man's opinion.
PhxHorn
I had Outrider in the car recently after not hearing it for years. It ain't Zeppelin, but it's a damn fine effort. The only criticism is with some of the vocals (Prison Blues), but the material is solid. The tune with Plant is a helluva good song. Plus, the instrumentals are all good. Seems like Jimmy could do an album with a number of vocalists sitting in, along with some instrumentals. Maybe a double album with a couple of tunes with each singer. There are so many great singers who would work well, and I bet Paul Rodgers and Plant wouldn't mind doing a couple each. Plus there's Chris Robinson. Heck, I can even suggest a bass player for the Plant tunes That's my suggestion, anyway, and I hope Jimmy will read it here and get to work next week. Walter
Interesting response. If someone could perhaps pinpoint a specific passage of a specific show to listen to I'd like to give it a go. Conduct a comparison. The version from Destroyer, at about the 5:25 mark of the BCW/BYS duo on my disc, is where I have heard (what I thought is) the beginning portion of the "Shake My Tree" acoustic riff. Again I do not hear the entire riff, but since the first time I heard the Coverdale/Page song, I have always thought that is where I had heard it before the song was released. It may be a loose interpretation by me. Let me know what you think. Cheers.
