Past Lives

In a non-cosmic, non-hippy, matter-of-fact sort of a way?

I think I do, only because where I am now, I constantly have that very casual sense of complete familiarity one has with landscapes and places that one sees everyday only to realize that I've not been to those places before. A little more than déjà vu. Also, lots of very powerful, but quite unexpected connections to certain historical places and people (as if they impress upon one rather than being sought out).

Just curious... I think we had this topic on the old board, but I don't see it on this one.

Yes I would have to say I do, since I do believe in reincarnation, and it has a lot sense to me. Also a lot of time experienced things that happened in that order that you can't tell it was accidentally. It was like it is written before that it has to be that way, and that it happens with a reason.

One minute I say 'yes' with dead certainty, and the next I just think it's not possible. Sometimes I have such an affinty for something, especially if it's not contemporary, that it's the only thing I can conclude. Other times I wonder if I'm just caught up in the novelty of it.

There's obviously no way to tell for sure, but an interesting topic, all the same.

I've been a renaissance man since I can remember and know that I'm an old soul. Does that mean I believe in past lifespans? Not necessarily, but I definitely feel like I'm blessed with a certain knowledge few either have or take for granted.

I'm not sure how I feel about it - whether I do or don't but you raised a good point about being caught up in the novelty of certain past eras/situations etc.

I think sometimes I become so infatuated by a particular era or something that I want to believe that there's some past life connection to it. Of course, whether there's any weight to it, no one will ever know.

I've always found this an interesting subject.

I'm sure I recall someone changing my diaper I just can't remember if I was an infant or an old man.

Here's a quote from My Psychic Autobiography

"A couple came over for a reading one day and asked if I could check their past lives for them. I told them I didn't believe in that. They said they'd like me to try anyways. So I complied and gave it a go. To my suprise I did see their past lives. I described the lives they each had, their occupations etc...etc...etc. I told the guy he was a farmer who grew wheat and made cheese along the Saint Lawrence River as well as catching and selling fish. He then stated that he once lied down in a wheatfield for 15 minutes and felt as well as thought it was the best place he'd ever been in his life. He also stated that he favoured wheat, cheese and fish in his diet. I've checked past lives for a few for people since then and one was a famous singer (that one suprised me)."

My theory is that these "deja vu" moments we sometimes have that are really graphic in the feeling we have been there before or familiar with certain (strange) surroundings, could be a memory gene of sorts.

Given that most people have ancestry in their respective country of birth and culture it is possible that certain sub-conscious memories are passed down through the generations to those who have migrated to a new country etc.

Also I don't have any recollection of life in the womb yet I have had these strange memories of doing this or being there all through my life which could be explained as "post natal" experiences.

What about cloning?

If and when we start cloning ourselves where does this leave past life experiences, or, will they become present life experiences?

As for living a past life I personally doubt it but who knows and who can say with absolute certainty that we have or haven't?

All I know is after being a human and if there is reincarnation I want to come back as a "Blue Eyed Merle" with an appreciation and understanding of Led Zeppelin's music!

Yes, I do believe in this and I remember having the strong impression of familiarity with something completely foreign from a very early age.

Haha!

That may be part of it, but what I meant is that around the age of eight I had a persistent feeling that I had lived somewhere else in the distant past and I still belonged there. I also think this influenced decisions I made later in my life to study foreign languages and live in other countries.

Yeah, I believe that I do. I think it's really interesting how people become inexplicably drawn to certain time periods in history, or feel a strong affinity to a particular geographic region. All I know is that I've felt an unexplained familiarity with a particular country and a particular time era of history from age 14. Could it just be something I became really interested in? Sure. Who knows, really...

Definitely--and it could be that one's own experiences draw one to particular times and places, and then that turns into a feeling of familiarity.

What you said makes me think of the way i feel any time i'm at a beach. It can be the Jersey Shore or Florida, doesn't matter. I always have a feeling of "strong affinity" to beaches in general. They are (for me) places of great beauty and deeply relax me. Like being in heaven. It's a natural way to feel because it's a place i love. Not everyone does. Makes us unique.

My opinion is that when you die, that is the end. There is nothing. Sounds scary to think of things that way i suppose. The religion i was born into (never practiced religion personally) believe in reincarnation. The only time i believed in it was when i read Stephen King's "Pet Semetary" as a ten year old :)

Interesting topic.

Hmm... maybe you where a fisherman (or woman) in a past life. Or a fish even! Perhaps a great whale or just a small grain of sand.

Never know for sure but, there could be any one (or more) of a lot of reasons why you feel this way.

I get warm and fuzzy feeling's for many reasons, but I am a hopeless and lost man of many creative and different thinking's and desires.....

Oops sorry, I digress but, it may just be because our brain is constantly being renewed at the molecular level every week or so.

No offense intended to anyone who thinks other wise but that's just how I think it may be.

I was trying to say that i don't believe that just because someone has a strong attraction or connection for a geographic location (as the example i was quoting) that means you had a past life there :) I don't believe that my deep love for the beach means that i once lived in a beautiful Mediterranean Mansion at the the edge of the deep green sea :) but if i am reincarnated, that's where i want to grow up next time :) While on the subject, i wonder if my deep love of music means i was once a great composer icon6.gif

btw Bonzolikedrummer, cute examples :) i think i was a mermaid.

Oh shoot, I should have wrote that! A great looking girl like you would have to be a creature of beauty for sure! ;)

Thanks for your interpretation, I can relate to it.

I read a book which devoted a chapter to past lives, what struck me was that not one

person carried a chamber pot or dug the garden. It was all rather more sad & heroic tales..

I've observed the same phenomenon. Many people who believe they were re-incarnated claim to have been powerful, rich, high status folks in their previous lives. ("I was the queen of Egypt" etc.) Virtually nobody claims to have been -- say -- a lowly serf toiling in the fields whom died young and possessed no power, money or status at all. Lol.
