Well, let's see what happens. Kev just posted again, saying he had a long discussion with Glenn Hughes about the whole thing. It'll be interesting to see how it all shakes out. Stay tuned!

Love,

Billy

So far, everything I've heard from this new "Supergroup" has bored me to tears.

And Glenn, you can obviously still hit the high notes, and yes, it still annoys the hell out of me.

I mean, it really is just a souless screetch that is very very dated. Plus, he's a bit of a poseur.

Suggestion: Lose Glenn Hughes, hey that rhymed.

I'd rather listen to Chickenfoot (laughs), at least they didn't take themselves so damn seriously.

I see folks in some other forums are in a bit of a snit over Jason being credited as a member of Led Zeppelin in that press release. One clueless moron who posts to FBO even tried to argue that it's probably not Jason's fault - in his words, "press releases are often thrown together by marketing hacks, sadly they're often rather annoying creatures with all the intelligence of sea urchens! When I first had to work with such folks, I was shocked at how quotes attributed to company officials weren't actually ever uttered by said officials but simply made up on the spot by the marketing hacks themselves." Wrong. Dead wrong. Completely false.

I don't know who this "expert" works for, but no press release is ever issued without first being run thru an extremely thorough approval process. Yes, quotes are typically drafted by a PR person based on whatever "message" the marketing folks ("hacks") want to convey in the release. Those quotes are then reviewed by the person being quoted and he/she is given every opportunity to edit, delete, whatever, before approving it.

I hope I'm not bursting anyone's bubble, but most company officials (and politicians) are too busy to come up with their own quotes. They also don't write their own speeches, or go on TV without being prepped by a PR person or "marketing hack." (f.y.i., there's no Santa Claus either).

In every press release, all facts are checked and double checked, all text is checked and doublechecked for typos. I've been doing this for almost 20 years and it's a pain in the neck, but it's absolutely essential to avoid doing harm to a company or person's reputation.

Anyone who suggests otherwise - or in this particular nitwit's case, states as fact otherwise - is just flat out wrong and doesn't know what he's talking about.

If it says "Jason Bonham (Led Zeppelin)" in that press release, you can be 100 percent sure that either Jason approved it himself, or he delegated the responsibility for reviewing and approving any publicity or marketing materials to someone he trusts completely to do so on his behalf.

Love,

Billy

Billy,

Thanks for the insight into the world of PR - it's useful to know what goes on behind the scenes. However, if Bonham Jnr ok'd the press release, what on earth was he thinking about? He was a member of LZ for one night only in 2007! He should have changed the statement when it was given to him, to show his previous full-time band memberships.

Hard to say. Maybe he figures that if the other three were willing to bill themselves as Led Zeppelin with him behind the kit at the O2 gig, he is a legitimate member of the band. I don't think this is much of a stretch for him given the upcoming "Led Zeppelin Experience" show he's putting together.

They were billed as Led Zep at the Atlantic Records gig, too, which gives him a one-up on Phil and Tony. Or maybe a half-up since it was only what? Four songs? Four and a half songs? And Carmen's birthday party, and Jason's wedding reception. And TUF during Knebworth '79 soundtrack. Geez, he practically WAS a member of the band. Heehee...

Love,

Billy

Excerpt:

The Led Zeppelin Experience isn't Bonham's only current musical endeavor. He's also a member of Black Country Communion, a group formed by producer Kevin Shirley that also includes Glenn Hughes, Joe Bonamassa and Derek Sherinian. The quartet's self-titled debut album comes out Sept. 21, and Bonham says it's talking about recording another one before starting to tour in 2011.
