Big Klu
They were punk. Or labeled punk. Punk sucks! They weren't punk. Minor Threat? Now thats punk. Their shows were usually shorter than a 1977 live version of No Quarter. Sandinista/LCalling/CRock were an elaborate ruse of instrumental competence. The name alone makes me think they suck. They were too liberal. I like songs about embracing authority. Bob Marley wrote a song about them, but not about shooting a sheriff. They weren't a group that started in the 60's with mushroom beatle hairdos. You thought when you finally got London Calling, it would rip your face off. The last thing you expected was an expertly-crafted late-Beatles sounding thing. That fucking awesome album cover tricked you! They were supposedly punk, but you only know them from Rock The Casbah?! They never used a guitar with PAF pickups.

Muse
Eh, none of the above. I like The Clash... sorta. They have yet to click with me. I have London Calling and From Here To Eternity, and the only songs that I really like are Guns Of Brixton and Straight To Hell.
chefcraig
Uhhh...because Paul Simenon made the ultimately opportunistic (and at the time extremely politically correct for the "so-called" punk movement) comment that he had no reason to listen to a Led Zeppelin LP, as "the covers alone made him want to throw up". Hell, I give the guy the credit for his convictions, given the context of the time that they were made. And I also still love the Clash.
Jarlaxle 56
I don't not like The Clash because they kick ass

gperkins151
The Clash has really grown on my over the years. I really love the song "Know Your Rights" 1. You have the right not to be killed, murder is a crime. unless it is done, by a policeman. GREAT tune. Last time I was in a car I proudly BLASTED this one.

LadyRaven
Beacause they are punk and I see their minimalist take on music trashing much of the music that happened afterward. Sometimes I think we wouldn't have so much shit rock music if it weren't for the whole punk music.
Big Klu
Beacause they are punk and I see their minimalist take on music trashing much of the music that happened afterward. Do you have specific Clash songs in mind? Or are you speaking towards their reputation, as in: They were punk. Or labeled punk. Punk sucks! They were about as punk (in sound) as The Who or Kinks. Attitude was another story.
tyedye
The Clash might be one of the very few punk bands of that era that has had any lasting quality. I do like Blondie though.
kaztor (slight return)
I'm quite an enthusiast. Got London Calling, Sandinista! and Story Of The Clash Vol. 1. Those kick some fucking ass and definitely show their 'competence'!
LukeTheDuke
I loved Clash but I never loved their political attitude I'm much more interested on music and they wrote several beautiful songs (and an awful album "cut the crap")
valleygirl
nowt wrong with the clash

Sometimes I think we wouldn't have so much shit rock music if it weren't for the whole punk music. Are you sure we're talking about the same band here? The Clash were real musicians, so were many of the better 'punk' bands.
Otto Masson
I like much of what The Clash did. They may not be exactly my fave cup of tea, but London Calling and Sandinista both showed a lot of ambition, and they were a real achievement I thought. I also had a lot of sympathy with much of their politics back in the day, and I think still do. But Combat Rock to me just wasn't a good album.
Kith Kannan
I've been listening to this alot lately Fantastic album.
IGG
I don't like London's Burning I don't like Give em' enough rope I don't like London Calling I don't like Sandanista! I don't like Black market Clash I don't like Combat Rock I really like Cut the Crap The only band that doesn't matter.
Charles_Obscure
To be frank, they're boring me to pieces... Sorry guys, but it's true...

You invented an album, counted a rarities EP, and another the band disowns entirely. And you smell like poopoo.
SteveAJones
I do not like the UK Punk genre. It's worst than disco, which one could at least dance to.
tyedye
I don't ever discount an entire genre. I try to keep an open mind and there is usually something I like from even the worst genre's. So punk and country are not my favorite, but I like a few bands or songs from those genre's. I'm not a purist. I'll try anything once to see if I like it.
